Many years ago I had an HW45, the one with the flat wooden grips, in .22cal and couldn't hit anything with it at all. So I sold it. I then bought a BSA Magnum in .22 cal and couldn't hit anything with that, either. Now, twenty years on, I regret selling my HW45 and might invest in another just to give it a fairer chance with some more practice. Many thanks for another great presentation.

you should do. These HW45's are super accurate, i had several over quite a few years and they are easy to get good at with practice. Super fun and accurate pistols. Best i've used

@@Sharpshooter99100 I did get another. A Black Star in .177 cal. It is very powerful, and accurate, providing it is held with a relaxed grip. Had I have given the old one a chance I wouldn't be writing these words. Good advice from you. Many thanks.

Great review as always Andy. I've never been a fan of Springer air pistols myself but the hw45 is an exception. Good power, great accuracy and exceptional quality from what I have heard. I might just need to cough up the dough and find the space for one of these on my pistol shelf. Too bad my wishlist is so long. So many airguns, so little time.

Thanks for the review Andy; I have the HW45 and love it despite the weight and size. I don't think you mentioned the half power option which improves accuracy and makes cocking easier. It is still plenty powerful enough for target shooting.

Awww, the HW45 review, I love this gun but only have the standard version, was looking to get a blackstar but seeing this silver one I'm in two minds now, I'll ask for a look at both in the shop and decide then. Great review Andy and thanks for listening to us, we love it ;-)

good review apart from missing out a couple of major factors. i.e. if you only pull back the cocking lever half way this gives a much easier to shoot/accurate power level of approx 2 ft llb`s. also there is a dry fire facility built in so you can just practice your trigger technique without actually firing a pellet. I have a HW45 and I am highly satisfied with it.

Not all 45s have two power settings. Only the 177 has the two power stages. I have a silver 177 and a black 22 and i was surprised that the 22 has only full power. i thought there was something wrong and even phoned Hull Cartridge. They said Two stage power is only in 177. The best thing they came up with was buy a 177 cal and buy the .20 or .22 cal barrels at £25 each. The barrel are only fixed with two small screws and can be changed in a few minutes.

My .22 has half and full power. It's a 45 from 1988 (I believe) it's also had a Tin Bum kit fitted which makes the pistol much nicer to shoot. 3.3 & 5.3 ft/lb

Great review. I have the standard HW45 with the 1911 style grips, it is my favourite of all the air pistols I own, and the one I can get best results from. For me the trigger is perfect out of the box without adjustment, has a very nice pull feel to it. It is a bit top heavy, but thats not a bad thing in my opinion.

It's a great pistol there no doubt about it I've owned one at least 25/30 years and still going strong it'll struggle compared to a decent precharged but it's a springer so what do you expect nice gun and a big thumbs up from me 👍👍👍
@clangerbasher

I remember when they were introduced. I remember the shoulder stock which I thought was ace. They are lovely to look at but I couldn't see me using one that much, I would rather have a proper 10m pistol now, something that will aid me in my rifle shooting (trigger pull, exercise etc.) I don't mind springs and rams in rifles but for reason now I have PCP kit I don't like that mechanism for pistols. I don't mind the effort, but it is an effort. I think it is interesting to compare this with the HW44 because I think if Weihrauch could produce a PCP pistol that look as good as the HW45 they would be onto a winner. Of course they won't because the HW44, even though it a sales success, is more an attention grabber for the company than anything else and they can build them cheap because of the HW110 line.

I bought one of this 2 years ago. I was able to shoot 2 inches target from 45 feet. I enjoyed it a lot. On the other hand, it broke down on me 4 times in 14 months. I had to send it out for repair. It took at least 4 weeks to get it back. It broke on me again 2 months since my last repair. I gave up.

@robertunderdunkterwilliger2290
Length of pull is a bit long for most teens and women and even many adult men. Other than that it's a wonderful fun pistol. Hard to shoot accurately as it comes out of the box is probably the most common opinion you hear about them though. It can be tuned down to more normal air pistol power levels. Not many people need a 7J air pistol! I've had mine since the late 80´s and its probably one of my most beloved possessions, not just sentimental reasons, but for its ability to put a smile on my face. The perfect pistol to plink with when I can't go to the range and shoot 'real pistols'! I used to have a Beeman P2 (HW75), but kept the HW45, since I like it more. The P2 had a tendency to jar me off aim when the hammer slammed forward. It was not as accurate as it could have been. Although more accurate than the HW45. If I would get a new HW45, I would get the special version from Waffen Schlottmann, it has a rear Weaver base that allows for a red dot where it wont ruin the balance as much.

I have a .22 caliber Beeman P1 with m1911 walnut grips plus additional 1911 rubber finger grooves. I think it is like a desert eagle crossed with a Colt m1911. I like how the recoil moves backwards, into the hand, unlike most other spring piston AirGuns. Incidentally, Beeman designed this pistol and got Weirauch to manufacture it, as well Beeman allowed Weirauch to release it under their brand name.
@robertunderdunkterwilliger2290
If you had paid attention to the physics in school, and your front sight, you'd know you are wrong! ;) The piston will have a opposite reaction forwards. That is why the front sight dips on these guns. The rear sight is mounted very high for that reason.
@gk.spinoza
@gk.spinoza 5 лет назад
@@robertunderdunkterwilliger2290 if you know the beeman P1/Weihrauch HW45, you would know that its powerplant is designed differently than nearly all other spring piston air pistols and rifles, and the recoil energy moves in the opposite direction than it does with other spring piston designs. I have a few other pistols like the Benjamin trail NP & Browning Buck Mark URX with spring/gas pistons and the recoil moves forward as you said. Your reply only proves that you have never fired need of these air pistols.

Being a solely a replica (or replica based) airgun collector, this gun is not my cup of tea (as my British airgun cousins might put it). I don't care for any of the airguns which look like the competition guns used in the Olympics, etc. But this being said, it is one fine looking pistols, and I'd be proud to have those grips on some of my guns. Also, I really like the new concept you come up with of having MRS. AAR getting involved in the videos. Your channel just keeps getting better and better. As to mine, it keeps getting crazier and crazier. I think I need some assistants to calm me down and do some better camera angles and editing. LOL It's getting a bit much for my crew of Me, Myself, and I. So, Andy, even when I don't care for the guns you review (at times), I still enjoy the reviews. DOC

Definitely something I wouldn't purchase!!!! Getting accuracy on a consistent basis is a major struggle & that's the part that's always left out when talking about this particular air pistol. The cost of it is based upon the name & the reputation of Weirach which I completely understand but for that then having to train yourself to hit a 10+ plus meter target on daily is way too much not to mention the recoil! For each is own b/c lots of ppl like the recoil but the Hw75 is something beyond amazing!!!! We all have our own preference I definitely have mine.

You failed to mention a huge feature of this gun, and possibly would have made her cocking effort easier had she used the 1st cock feature. The half cock requires less effort. I could swear you're doing that 'workaround' which I've heard people do - 'Vy-rark'. It is of course meant to be first 'Vy-rou' - with 'rou' as it is in 'round' - but instead of 'nd', you're placing in a kind of 'cough' sound. The 'ch' is a kind of cough sound.
