What’s going on guys and welcome back to the channel! Guess what? I’m excited to announce that next week I’ll be visiting Japan for the first time! That said, I have quite a bit on my agenda when it comes to coasters, and it’s gotten me excited to research some of what Japan has to offer. With a drop so steep and oddly angled it looks like it provides some of the best airtime on Earth, today’s coaster is one that has been around for quite some time and has seen many design changes. Starting as a shuttle coaster, this coaster began its operating life back in the 1980s, and continues thrilling riders today, just in a different form. Certainly one of the most bizarre coasters I’ve seen, and it definitely deserves a video. So what is it? And where did it come from? This is the story of Nasu Highland Park’s, Big Boom! 💥🎢

Big Boom in the back is the most scared for my life I've ever been on a coaster. I'd describe it as utter chaos rather than airtime, but that drop alone totally made the entire park for me. I'd love to go back soon but it's so dang far away on the side of a dang mountain

If that conversion was finished in 1987, I'd seriously look into whether or not this was the steepest roller coaster in the world at the time, I'm pretty sure it looks steeper than Magnum XL 200

Big Boom's original name as a shuttle coaster was "High Loop Coaster" (「ハイループコースター」). For some reason, RCDB shows the name in Katatana, but not the romanized name.

I still don’t understand why this coaster didn’t take the title of worlds steepest coaster back in the 80s, it’s sure as hell steeper than Magnum!

There was a sister coaster to this that was located at Myoko Sunshine Land and there isn't much known about it other that it has the same layout, steep drop and it also circles the park. I have ridden both of them while I was in Japan 15 years ago and they were both amazing.

I really like your channel! You find some really interesting and rare rides. I had to look it up, but at Nasu Highland there was a coaster called Lightning Coaster, which looked really, really interesting. I've never been able to find out much about it, but RCDB mentions involvement with BHS/Zierer/Schwarzkopf, which make it really fascinating and maybe similar to Jetline/Lisebergbanan/BMR-X (Knightmare)/Andulusia Railroad as one of the "post-Schwarzkopf" Schwarzkopf's. Have you heard about it, or would you consider a video about it? Thanks for the content!
