Thank you for saying that! I found the title a bit off putting, partially do to saying that people "can't" eat foods. Also because these are not weird foods or weird ingredients. On the topic of Swedish Fish, Trader Joe's has Scandinavian Swimmers, which is their own similar product, in a mixed flavor bag, using vegetables for dye.

@clownfrills
@clownfrills 7 лет назад
+YesIAm not rude at all, no worries! i just found this out last night, so i am not really sure how accurate my information may be. i did a quick search and found this: "The dye is made from coal tar and petroleum, so each batch of dye must be tested on rats and mice, who are then euthanized after the testing." so each time a mix of red 40 is made, a sample from that batch has to be tested before the batch can be sent out for use, it seems.

There's a misconception with veganism and vegetarianism that you have to be 100 percent, but it's hard! It's not an easy lifestyle in the world we live in so I think as long as you are actively consuming less animal products, it's okay to get something you that might contain a small amount of animal product. Also, most sugar companies do not make sugar with bone char.

It's actually not hard if you cut the C.R.A.P. (calorie rich and processed) and stick with whole plant foods. I will agree with you it can be difficult to learn how to cook and prepare real foods with real ingredients if you've never done it and produce can be more expensive because of the corrupt taxpayer subsidies given to animal and junk food industries and the long distances overwhich produce is trucked. But even that can be overcome with some good cookbooks and RU-vid tutorials. And if you're able to garden, you can save a ton and eat much better. If you like more traditional animal foods, Happy Herbivore has Tempeh bacon (tastes so much better than any faux products in the stores) and Engine II has a great tofu faux egg salad recipe... There are so many great cookbooks and recipes out there, you're sure to find just about anything for those occasional nostalgic meat and junk cravings. But honestly, when you start eating real foods, you feel better and you don't crave those things as much anymore...

It really isn't the same, though. Giving up, if only meat, makes such an impact. Plus, everything is personal preference. I, myself, started by cutting out meat, then gelatin and things like that, until i became fully vegan. To put down someone for making an effort is ignorant. Giving up things that are so commonly used is tough, and not an option for a lot of people.

Honestly the only thing you can do is ask questions about how the food was prepared if someone else cooked it, do your research about animal derived ingredients and then hope for the best. We all make mistakes sometimes but all you can do is learn and make sure not to do it again.

I am a very high raw vegan and do not struggle much at all because I eat mostly raw! Lots of fruit mostly! So maybe I could be considered pretty close to a fruitarian! I am also Non Celiac Gluten Sensitive so I can not have wheat anyways! I found gluten to be the number one cause of my suicidal depression and anxiety, so after cutting wheat out, I am much happier and even happier yet because I eat so many raw foods! With living enzymes and biophotons! I highly recommend trying to eat more raw because it's sooooo much easier! Yes it is a little more restrictive, but your health benefits increase and you don't really have to worry about looking at ingredients, so it is actually much simpler! I am even able to say that I am completely GMO free as well because of it! If I buy corn I buy it organic. If I buy edamame I buy it organic! Zucchini is also GMO, so buy organic or grow your own like I do! Also papaya is now GMO sometimes, so try to verify the farm or buy only organic. This is all for America by the way! There are not many GMO's in the produce department, so it's just a few foods to look out for! Most GMO's are shoved into packaged foods, so I don't worry about that! I do have a couple of favorite packaged products, but they are mostly condiments, like an artichoke bruschetta that is in sunflower oil! I will add a few tablespoons to nibble at on top of a huge tomato salad! Going high raw sounds hard, but it does become so simple once you have some favorite meals picked out! Packaged foods are just full of GMO's and I find them to be so scary!

@assemblyizeable
@assemblyizeable 7 лет назад
I think a lot of these still apply to a vegetarian lifestyle. What I go by is whether an animal had to die to produce the food I'm eating, and some of these do break that. Obvious things like the chicken or beef stock (which aren't hard to realize), but also the others like gelatin and some food coloring, animal fats, etc. I do agree that some of those she mentioned are more fitted to a plant based diet instead, but there were only about 2-3 of those.
@rayvenner3340
@rayvenner3340 7 лет назад
All those mentioned required bones, tissues, or meat of animals. Veganism is that plus any thing produced from an animal. Vegetarianism is more about death, Veganism is more about death and exploitation.
@pogonavit

If it had to die, like to get the lining of their stomach, bones, and tissues, them it's not vegetarian. But you do you.
@kye4947
@kye4947 7 лет назад
If you're considering one of the 2 I would just go vegan. Lots of people think by going vegetarian they aren't contributing to the death of animals, but by supporting the egg or dairy industry you indirectly support the meat industry. Baby boy calves in the dairy industry are sent to a slaughterhouse after a few weeks of life to make veal because they can't produce milk. The boy chicks in the egg industry are literally thrown into a grinder fully conscious because they won't ever produce eggs and that's standard practice for ALL egg farmers/manufactures. Also the animals are often held in extremely poor conditions and treated horribly. Besides all that though, every animal in the egg or dairy industry will eventually end up at a slaughterhouse to be killed for meat. Cows when they no longer produce enough milk (after being forced to have countless babies that have all been stolen from them a day after they born), And hens after they no longer produce as many eggs.

I'm a vegetarian and I'm all for animal protection, but things like this are why I'll never become vegan or super strict vegetarian. Like refusing a beer because an ingredient that I can't even pronounce Probably touched fish bladders ? I mean come on. I have a lot of respect for people who do it, but I'll never be that person. It was interesting to find out about some of them though !

it's filtered most of the time with fish bladders. if you look it up on barnivore on your phone after you see a menu (or plan ahead and check on your computer after viewing the menu online), it's really not that difficult.

being vegan isn't about being perfect. no one's perfect and there are hidden animal ingredients in sooo many things. it's just a matter of checking ingredients (really easy) when you can and doing the best you can to avoid unnecessary harm.

It's actually very rare for castoreum to be used in vanilla icecream.. please don't tell people it's in most products because it isnt (especially not highly commercialized icecreams..anything from large store..brands). it's actually expensive to produce and isn't cost effective. it would take less money to just use fake vanilla scents/flavoring or actual vanilla.. like I said. it is rarely used in iceream anymore. you can still eat vanilla icrecream. but it is still used in many perfumes from what I hear.

I'd love to be vegetarian or vegan but this is a main reason I can't. So many things you can't eat or drink, and under different names. Like I'd never know the red dye isn't vegetarian. I do what I can by choosing more vegan or vegetarian alternatives (Like i usually drink almond milk instead of cows milk, or getting veggie burgers instead of beef) but that's the best I can do. My diet is also horribly limited by allergies and stuff :/

I saw the cheese you love (caramelized onion) at Trader Joe's today and picked it up to confirm. I have good news for you. NOT ALL RENNET IS CREATED EQUAL! You can eat microbial rennet as a vegetarian--it is made from yeast, molds, and fungi. Just be on the lookout for animal rennet. If something simply says "rennet," it is best to put it down. Hope that helps!

Not sure why you'd care about the gelatin in cheesecake and not the dairy? which is just as detrimental to animals and has negative affects on the body, which I assume is why many people become vegan/vegetarian anyway.
@alexandraalbarran343
@alexandraalbarran343 7 лет назад
Danielle H yeah but for the gelatin they HAD to kill the animal , the didn't kill the cow for milk , so in my opinion i don't find it bad
@danielle4033
@danielle4033 7 лет назад
Instead the cows are tethered and locked indoors, constantly impregnated, used for their milk and has the calves abruptly taken away (many killed for meat). Also they are killed about 4-5 years in, which is a fraction of the normal life expectancy. Not sure if death or constant depressing living conditions is worse. Still very cruel to the animals and not much of a life worth living for the animal....

@danielle4033
@danielle4033 7 лет назад
Yeah that is true, but the whole point of not eating animals is because it's cruel. But the dairy industry is just as cruel, treating the animals like trash then killing them after a few years. So essentially they are still being killed, just after using their bodies for milk. Seems almost as bad.

For all these people commenting "eww this stuff is so gross I gotta lookout for this stuff now!" Well I hope you don't eat milk or eggs, that's the grossest of them all. Not only is the dairy and egg industry the cruelest of them all, but milk contains puss from the cows utters and eggs are a chickens menstrual period. Doesn't get grosser then that.
