Weird, Forgotten Batman Villains... 

Just remember that no character or concept in comics is ever truly lost. The medium has an infinite memory and all it takes is one writer shooting their shot with a whole new twist to turn these silver age Mr. Zeros into modern and unforgettable Mr. Freezes.

In an alternate Universe it was Mr. Hydro and not Mister Freeze who got rebooted into a tragic Rougue in BTAS. Also The Mental Giant walked so that Azrael Batman could run.

The Most Forgotten Batman: Mr. Rogues, One of Batman's Deadliest and Epic Enemies, He was a Threat to The DC, Marvel, Image, Walking Dead and other Universes,

I wonder if Mr. Hydro was more then just a one shot villain if there would be a story where the he, clayface, Phosphorus and a wind villain would team up and become a elementa villain group.

Even comparing Mental Giant to some of the modern fanatical vigilantes Batman (or just super heroes in general) would fight, ala say Jason Todd or Punisher, I would say he's still unique in that he wouldn't go toe to toe with Batman in a physical encounter as this type of character typically would. I'd like to see a remake of this story featured here now, one however where we get a proper payoff where Batman and Robin (whichever Robin, IDC) beats Barney in a match of wits if you are not gonna change anything else. My only concern is how he would be compared to said modern fanatic crime fighters of today if this were to happen. And yes this character design has grown on me. I wasn't sure of it at first but I oddly like it now.

I'd write Mr Hydro as a metahuman with water powers, that he developed during his teenage years, he'd be born with the metahuman gene, and after almost being drowned to death by his parents, who were trying to kill him because they thought he was a demon, his powers kicked in and he killed them both, and then in the present he would use his metahuman powers to drown men, women and even children, thinking he was saving them from the horrors of the world, taking them to a magical underwater fantasy world in his twisted mind, due to the trauma he suffered at an early age

One reason the Batman Rogues Gallery is so good is all the morts and weirdos and losers it has along with the more famous characters.

The Mental Giant's origin story and powers makes me think of the Leader from Marvel. It's almost exactly the same.

I mean, using the river that goes through the Batcave to kill Batman isn't too bad of an idea...does beg the question for why others like Riddler, Joker, Penguin, etc. etc. haven't thought of it if it's apparently common knowledge

Mr Hydro could be a good villain, his design could be an armoured scuba suit and his lair is a submarine or maybe an underwater cave. He could try and poison the water supply or use high power water jets to kill people or cut holes in walls to rob places without trace, water evaporates after all. He could even try and sink ships to loot them like the King Kraken reimagining you showed before. Lots of stuff can be done with a water themed character.

When the best part of a forgotten Batman villain is a name like Mr.Hydro, you know he needs a rewrite

I like the Mental Giant as a sincere but fanatical crime fighter to oppose Batman. The Mental Giant would be good to bring back for a one shot but has problems as a reoccurring villain. It would be implausible for Batman to outsmart him (at least regularly). It would get boring to have him constantly transforming back. It would be best if the villain outsmarted himself. Actually it could be really great if the character is so smart Batman questions if his defeats are not actually part of a greater plan as the character evolved.

"... too dim-witted to be allowed to become a police officer." Based on experiences friends and family memebrs have had, this would qualify him to answer 9-1-1- calls in my area, though.

For some reason Mr. Hydro reminds me of early Mr. Freeze. I think it’s the name and the bad costume. These two are alright, though there are others in the Rogues Gallery who have similar themes that work better. Two similar and also underused rogues that fans of this channel will recognize are King Kraken and Cavalier II. Admittedly Mental Giant is a intellect based villain where Hudson Pyle is a physical adversary, however, I think Cavalier would work just fine as an intelligent and dexterous character. All that said, I think I could be convinced that Mental Giant could work in the Rogues Gallery, but he needs something to really differentiate him. King Kraken is more of a blank slate, but Rogues’ pitch video completely sold him to me as a Ventriloquist or Anarky tier Bat Rogue. His design is better, his name is better, and his gimmick is more focused than just “water.” Overall I’d much rather Kraken gets a light revamp and becomes a proper villain than Mr. Hydro gets a major revamp.

The Mental Giant reminds me a lot of the Hulk villain, The Leader.

7:01 His premise isn't unheard of. The pathetic loser criminal decides to go with a theme of something he was mocked for, rubbing it in everyone's faces. The worthless nobody that every underestimates. He's not doing it for the money or the power, or the thrills, he just wants to show up the people who mocked him in the most excessive way possible.

Mr. Hydro looks like the kind of character that would have a cameo in Batman: the Brave & the Bold.

I now have an idea with Mr Hydro and possibly Octopus (II) ... I think it'll be ridiculous but fun. Then again they're both ridiculous by defult.

Wow, does anyone see the resemblance of Mental Giant with Hulk's villain the Leader. I mean both are low iq guys that worked as janitors that ended up with big brains after some science accident. I mean motivations are different, but it's just so weird how much their origins are similar.

Fun Fact: Mr. Medulla from Disney's Sky High has the same powers as The Mental Giant, except he is born with a mutated brain.

the water guy story could be retold in a light hearted story. same origin but he creates a fad throughout the underworld. every criminal is using water, even the joker and such get in on it. could be a fun story

Wow! The Mental Giant is the grandpa of other giant head villains like M.O.D.O.K., Mindworm and Hector Hammond.

Mr.Hydro? Hmm it could work, but yeah the origin and his reasoning is a bit too much. Change his design, scrap it all and make it anew and I say he could be a neat foe... done right that is. The Mental Giant is neat, but if ever redone, maybe have a few changes for him to make him more interesting then he already is.

Idea for a new mr hydro. make hin a rip of sandman and have him in a badass metal suit. Have a crook mock him and then he blasts the crook and the skin is stripped off at high pressure water speeds.

I mean think about it whats one common complain people have had wit batman? that the fact he doesnt kill ultimatly leads to more deaths. now you have the mental giant who would kill,and would ultimatly hate batman for not killing the villains and would see him as just as bad as the crooks he puts away

I think Mr. Hydro could work as a good villian if he use some sort of handheld water jet cutter that pulls moisture out of the air. Maybe have water-propelled jet pack as well.

I'm not sure I agree with you about Mr. Hydro. Yes, his design is not the world's most impressive, I'll certainly grant you that, but in concept, he's not bad - I mean, a shrimpy, pathetic loser of a crook who winds up transforming himself into a threat through sheer ingenuity? There's something Scarecrow-ish about that, or even Penguin-ish, in a way. And there's a lot you can do with a water theme - the ocean, ice, drinking water, marine animals, floods, ships, etc., etc. And clearly, he's a clever fella - that scheme to flood the Batcave is not bad. Here's what I'd do with him. Tim Flagg is back in jail again, but his plan worked - after a successful crime spree, he's elevated himself in the eyes of his fellow crooks, and he soon makes it clear that nobody messes with Mr. Hydro - you try, he'll poison your water or flood your cell or something. He's a 'big man' now, his former dream, but now it means nothing to him - because Batman kicked his rear. Batman 'made him feel small'. This forms a blueprint for his criminal career: he breaks out, and tries more and more ambitious schemes for showing up/wiping out the Dark Knight, only to fail every time and wind up back in jail. There, he's a big shot; outside, he's just the weird little guy who Batman keeps defeating - and he can't STAND that! He will make EVERYONE respect him, or they'll be sent to a watery grave - and the first one he'll send there is Batman!

Sounds like hydro could easily be rewritten to be decent

Rewatching this video, I feel like Absolute Terror was a revamped version of Mr. Hydro's story but with Scarecrow as this "loser" who's gonna show them all that he doesn't need his fear toxin, it's almost the same story but more obnoxious than hilariously bad LMAO

Hey ya', Rogues! (👋) Really liking all these early day Batman villain content. Say what you will about how hit or miss some of them were, but these writers really cranked way more costumed villains than nowadays. Today, it just seems we're saddled with the two dozen or so proven players in Gotham, with the odd Hush, Court of Owls, or Mr. Pig thrown in every once in a while. Keep it coming!

Sorry if I'm just not remembering Also, since the batman movies usually reinvent the villains from the ground up, it would be interesting for a movie to tackle the more obscure ones. I think someone else was metioning something similar. Although I'm not sure how much you can do with Mr. Hydro, I think it would be a fun challenge for a screenplay. Wouldn't a watermancer that can control water at will be super op? If he can control the water pressure as well then he can probably just look at a dude and instakill him.

Gotta be honest, I think Mental Giant is way more interesting than Hector Hammond. He could be the anti-villain who fights crime more efficient and intelligently in a level not even Batman could reach, mainly because the methods are above the humane way.

Would it be more smarter to flooded the Batcave, and make sure they drown in it or something but then again Mr hydro is meant to be a not good villain, so I’m basically okay with it
