Translated in german it´s called: Jedermanns Recht (or older german: Allermanns Recht). But we still got the word, less the institution. :-) No, kidding. I know, that camping for one day is allowed, for example. But wildfire??? Hell no! It´s against the rules and we love rules! :-) :-(

I went to a Waldorf/Rudolf Steiner school as a kid and we called it St. Jan. We jump over a fire and sing (not weird at all) and wear flower crowns as well, eat special cake and fruit punch or whatever. Nowhere else in the Netherlands it’s celebrated as far as I know...
@tristanprice7236
@tristanprice7236 5 лет назад
In Scotland there is no laws of trespass, so you are allowed to walk where you want (within reason) as long as you don't damage anything. I think we can light fires too, and swim wherever we want, although it's always too cold for much of that.

Snus is indeed quite popular in Finland, even though it is illegal to sell it here. If you want to obtain it legally, you have to import it yourself which basically means buying it from the ferries between Turku and Stockholm or either driving up north and over the border to Haparanda. And you're only allowed to bring a 1000 grams. But of course that's just what the law says: there's a thriving black market and it seems that 35€ (330 SEK) per "tower" is a decent price to pay even if it's the cheapest sfuff which costs something like 20€ (190 SEK) in Sweden. The premium brands can go up to 70€ (660 SEK) in here.

Ok. I'm going to write this in english because I want to clarify something for your non-swedish followers. There is one thing you forgot to mention about the "ring-games" around the pole. It's for kids. Adults do it to show the kids how it's done and it's also a form of security for the kids to have grown-ups near. And of course, sometimes the grown-ups will drink a little to much Snaps and. . . well.

Swedish are great People especially some with traditional cultural heritage background like few of my own teacher's! They were so kind to us me and my brothers ....and that was long time ago 1980s ....I remember one of my teacher was so characteristic personality Viking Tall and huge long blond hair and strange blonde mustage ...if you didn't know him you would be scared by his look!! That Allemansratten thing though does not work everywhere I think, for example if you're on someone's property you can build a tent but not really on the guy's front yard. I think you need to be out of sight or in comfortable distance not to bother the owners to do it.
@muridae83
@muridae83 7 лет назад
well the law is made so u basically can put up a tent anywhere you want on someone else property but it should be said use common sense.... putting it up super close to that owners front door or something like that just isnt the right way to go about it (even if its technically allowed).

We have May Day which is May 1st in the US. Kids used to make May Day baskets and put flowers in them at school and leave them on people's doorsteps as as a surprise. We also celebrate Mid Summertime Festival with Maypoles that we dance around after making flower crowns, but all these are pagan traditions and few people do this any more. They have nothing to do with John the Baptist or any saint. Maybe the Missionaries in Scandinavia blended the two together in an effort to keep people's traditions but morph them into Christian ones.

Putting up a tent in the middle of nowhere for one day is pretty nice i think. When you want to walk in to the nature and you are able to camp there... Thats so cool! I would love to do this sometimes, but in germany the laws for "wild-camping" are so weird and it's almost completely forbidden. :] So be happy to be allowed to put so many tents possible wherever you want for a day :DD

Snuff is also American fine/long/wide cut smokeless tobacco leaves that you put behind your lower lip then spit the juice whenever you need/feel to. You can swallow if you want though, but if you swallow the juice you're probably packing fudge in your boyfriends butt too xD Grizzly Wintergreen and Mint are my favorites. I'm probably in the very minority of Swedes that do snuff.

Midsommar kommer från före & under vikingatiden (och är INTE en kristen högtid). Midsommarstången va ursprungligen en symbol för fertilitet (en ring på en stolpe) och inte korset som är idag. Samma som julafton. *Fakta är viktigt.* Midsummer comes from pre viking age (and is NOT a christian holiday). The midsummer pole was originally a symbol for fertility (a ring horizontally on a pole) and not the cross that is today. Same as christmas (jul). *Facts are important*

I think China is also on its way to the e-currency era, now we just carry our phone to pay everything via Wechat pay or Alipay. And one question: Does local supermarket also accept credit card like Visa Card or Mastercard? Cuz when I was in The Netherlands, the local supermarket only accept local debit card, so I had to pay in cash... And nice to see how snus looks like! Cuz I was talking about the Swedish tabacco with a English friend! And I didnt know what that was. Haha I thought it would be like herb or weed which you can buy at Coffeeshop haha. The cashless places in Sweden made being a tourist very difficult for me. I can't get a travel card that I can put krona on (I can only get euro or UK pounds for the european countries...) so I had a few awkward moments where I would try to buy something only to be turned away. I could have used my credit card, but then I'd have transaction fees + foreign currency conversion fees every time and when I was just buying a coffee or something I didn't fancy the coffee costing twice as much... luckily most of the time I was with my Swedish boyfriend so he would use his card and I could just pay him back later. But still, please think of the tourists Sweden and don't remove cash option from all your stores!! Or, if you know of a solution for something where a person that doesn't have a Swedish bank account could get a card without crazy fees every time I use it then please let me know!
@zeddeka
@zeddeka 3 года назад
If you change your money into krona, you're also charged a worse conversion rate - so paying with your card, even with the conversion fees, still often works out cheaper. All the difference is is that the fees you're paying are shown when you use your card whereas they're more hidden when you convert your cash.

Yes the UK I think. Seriously, we don't call my mother a pole because she is Polish nor do we dance around her with ribbons ...It was a play on words with you and I hope it makes you laugh.

The major cities are very vegan/vegetarian-friendly in general, so it wouldn't be an issue :)
