I just searched "Yume Penguin Monogatari", being already familiar with the game and wanting to see somone play it better than I did. I was also already familiar with this show, so seeing this video made me think, "sweet, he completed the trilogy" and clicked. I wasn't expecting JewWario to be in this video. I wasn't a regular watcher of his, but seeing this reminded me what a fun guy he was, and now I'm that much sadder that he's gone. I'm glad I was reminded, because now it feels like I was taking it for granted earlier. If that's too many words: RIP Justin.

I wish Wii Fit had more penguin training games.

I did a little research, those ghosts are wearing "hitaikakushi", a kind of pice of cloth used as a kind of hat by the spirits and ghosts called Yūrei in the old japanese folklore. Yuyuko from the Touhou franchise is the most well-known to wear one.

JewWario was a great person to be on the show. I wish he could've done more before his death, R.I.P.

This is great. I love how Penta has reached a high status with you. I wish they did have the pink penguin as a player character. She could have different moves and alternate cut scenes.

I like to think of this game as happening before the other ones.

Even if you're still not ready to acknowledge the fact that the world is consistently owned and operated by the worst yet longest-lived people in it, you can't deny the tragic reality of living in a society where people like Justin Carmical and Robin Williams choose an early death. I have a theory that a lot of the people who commit high profile suicide are doing so with the hope that it will shock us into opening our eyes a bit. That might not be the reason they do it, but I know when I gave it a shot the last thing I was thinking was "This is probably the only way I will ever be able to make a true difference in the world." So, forgive me if I offend anyone, but comments like this are just my personal way of honoring the lost.

Nice to see the 16:9 host clips not weirdly stretched to 4:3 aspect ratio in this one. I didn't know you had done a co-review with JewWario -- no wonder you were particularly affected by his passing. I don't know if it's sadly ironic or just apropos that you talk about Penta the penguin's crippling depression in this review. Oh, the "po" is katakana, not kanji. And I don't think it's supposed to be an onomatopoeia for the sound a penguin makes, but the sound of blowing out of your mouth with force. And of course a stingray killed Steve Irwin, not a harmless manta ray. Hmm, wonder if the Doodle Jump guys got the idea for their propeller beanie from this game. The mechanics feel very similar. Actually, being unable to resist eating onigiris makes a lot of sense to me. Hostess Fruit Pies? Bleah! Gimme some cold vinegared rice wrapped in dried, roasted sea vegetables with a pickled plum in the middle any day! :-) "Poo, I say thee!" "Kinda sweet, in an aspartame sort of way." I'm 100% sure that mummy was the bad guy with bandages on. But that may have been part of the joke.

So I swear I played a game with Penta and that shallow chick of his. It was a maze-like game where two players controlled Penta and his girlfriend respectively. I recall collecting shit and then having to meet player 2 in the maze to kiss and end the level. This was found on one of those shitty plug and play consoles sold at mall kiosks in the mid-2000s. The ones that would claim to have 10k games but repeat after maybe 500? It could also play famicom games. Point is, among these repeats were a lot of weird sprite swaps and re-titling of games. So for all I know, this was a rom hack.

Penta no longer needs the weirding module. He can knock out his enemies with regular penguin, uh, noises. That was a references to Dune, btw.

So the right side is the wrong way eh? Guess that's why all those racing games have the A.I. drive on that side of road! But honestly, there is no wrong side of the road. It's actually kinda odd how these differences even exist! Yet as of right now, it's already too late for everyone in the world to agree on driving on one side. Still can be a real pain when traveling overseas though...

I dunno why people think of the wrong side of the road as a concept, as you say different countries drive differently. It only really applies to when you are in a country that drives on a particular side, and somebody ends up driving opposite the traffic. Or when a country is depicted in media...and the cars aren't on the side of the road they are on for real. (Like if a game set in the U.K. has them on the right hand side of the road, which of course...would be incorrect)

Yume Penguin Monogatari is great! I got it a few years ago when I bought a Famicom. There is also a fan translated ROM out there.

when i saw the ending of this game my comment was: oh wait! the penguin just got slim for nothing why: at the start of the game the pink penguin said that she likes slim penguins and the penguin at the start was fat but then it turns that the orther penguin (the one with an top hat) kidnapped the pink penguin at the ending the pink penguin grab the bag of candies that the penguin was eating at the start of the game and she got fat thats why i got the conclusion that the penguin got slim for nothing bonus challenge: count many times i said the word penguin

Maybe this game is trying to make Penta seem amazing. The penguin with the hat is obviously a billionaire, judging by the incredible amount of resources at his disposal, yet Penta schemes to steal his girl through sex appeal alone. The billionaire penguin knows that defeating Penta in either love or war is impossible, so instead he uses his incredible wealth to make Penta overeat; Penta will still be sexy, just not so sexy that women will dump billionaires for him.
