I got this fine crane model years ago, when produced by TWH. I think it represented superior design & detail quality then, compared with most other contemporary diecast construction model manufacturers, except NZG. Even now, I think this model (as now produced by Weiss Brothers) is probably as well detailed (or better), than many models produced today. The only real issue I had with TWH models was inconsistent production quality control; sometimes TWH's models would have part defects (cracked or broken castings, I recall, on some models, including the Manitowoc 4100 crane), but TWH's model design was outstanding. I was much disappointed to learn TWH went out of business, but suspected they tried to accomplish too much, too quickly, creating the quality control issues. I'm glad Weiss Brothers has released this great TWH model again (& a few other TWH models, I believe), hopefully, with proper production quality control.
I have connected steel from one of them on the tracks over a hundred feet and in a ringer configuration over 250'. My grandfather was an oiler for one at Cape Canaveral on the vehicle assembly building back in the 60's. I have another grandfather also that was an operator for one on the vehicle assembly building. The last time I hung any iron was off of the hook of one of them. 25 years ago or more.
Glad to see this model again, I missed my chance to get one during the earlier production and prices on ebay have been $800+. That said, I'd much rather get the clam-drag-magnet variant if they're planning to make them again. Any idea if that is the case?
sadly they still decide to rivet the boom foot into the cab! In a way that won't even let you easily remove the rivet! and they still don't include enough threads for the boom to go all the way down!! shame on weiss for spoiling what couldve been a really great model!!!
@@jayce5070 not easy to add more rope to the winch drum..... Also it sucks the way they did the rivet on the boom foot. I am able to remove most but still not been able to figure out how on this one..
