As someone who just discovered Hermitcraft last year, it’s has never been about the game but more about the personalities. Maybe it’s my older age as I’m in my forties

The thing they were saying that Etho attracts older viewers is kind of true cause I was wearing my life series sweatshirt at school and my math teacher told me they watched it too and we talked about and he said his favorite person to watch was Etho!

01:03 joel's story has made me admire him even more icl. i had the same injury at 12 years old, 3 surgeries down, and almost 10 years later, im still dealing with the damage from it. it's great that he's been able to build an amazing platform from such a debilitating injury 👏

I just wanna say thank you for getting Joel. I discovered him in the second life series when he died like 4x in his second episode and saw it in others and HAD to know what happened and fell in love with his content. Love hearing his story and everything!!! I’ve waited for this one for a while since part 1 lol

it is amusing hearing Joel talk about how the viewers that have been around for 10+ years are pretty rare these days, speaking as one of those viewers who’s been watching Etho, then the redstoners, then eventually hermitcraft and beyond since 2011

regarding the people unsubscribing thing... it's not necessarily people, youtube is unsubscribing people. I keep getting recommendations from channels I *was* subscribed to, and now I find I'm not. I haven't unsubbed from anyone ever, so I know it's not me. I also ALWAYS click bell icon, because I don't see the point of subbing and not getting notifications. However, there are a great many channels I'm not 'clicked bell' for. RU-vid is definitely downgrading our subs if we don't click from notifications often enough. I'd love to know what's going on with that and how it works. I'm sorry to youtubers, it's harder and harder to retain your audience if RU-vid just switches them off!

Love every time Impulse talks about rationalizing the number of people enjoying your work - the world can feel so Big online, but when you tie it down to what an actual roomful of that number of people feels like, it helps make it easier to see how many people you're actually reaching.

With regards to inventory space. I have been going through Etho's let's play series and it was funny because he was basically saying the same thing about how it is so many more blocks but same inventory space in an episode from 11 years ago while discussing the upcoming release of the ender chest.

As someone who is on a big Amtrak trip, trains are also nice to disconnect and enjoy the ride

25:50 Hytale actually IS still in active development... they basically got bought up by Riot games and they expanded the scope of what they originally planned for the game, we know it's still in development from updates on their website (last one about 2 weeks ago) and the fact that their company has a few hundred more employees than when that trailer dropped... But yeah generally not a good idea to drop a trailer nearly a DECADE before you release your game, they just vastly underestimated the demand for a genuinely good minecraft-like game, and didn't want to miss the mark like many many have before them

i really don't see minecraft going anywhere any time soon. i work in a public library and Minecraft is right up there with Star Wars in terms of what kids are checking out. and the number of kids wearing minecraft merch probrably doubles that number. love thse podcasts! i learn so much and it's interesting =)

the chat about how doing something that isn't job-related like going to the pool costs money feels like a generational thing. my mom would use that argument a lot when i wasn't "being productive". in reality, you're not spending the amount of money you would've earned to do the thing, you're spending the money (if the pool requires a membership, gas to get to the pool, food, etc) that you've already earned to enjoy living your life, which is the whole point of earning money.

I have been playing minecraft since I was 7-8 I am 19 going on 20, I don't play as much as I used to but unlike the 40 some odd games in my steam library who I have totally stopped playing Minecraft is yet to die.

Joel says “sort of thing” so dang much

Great show as always, guys! Joel was great. I do want to contradict one thing he said, as someone 20 years older than him: DO grind in your 20s and 30s - Work hard while you're physically able and have that young energy. That's the best time to save for your future. Those who do that can more often enjoy the rest of their lives, while those who don't often spend more of their lives struggling to make ends meet and live under a lot more stress. Of course, circumstances can intervene in either direction, but as a general rule, you're not going to be able to work as hard or as long as you get older, so that opportunity to put away money is missed. Try to avoid debt of any kind, even planning ahead to save for your next vehicle as soon as you have your current one, and put away *something* into a retirement account every week... If you think you can't afford to put away anything, put away $2/week and skip a coffee or snack somewhere. We've taught our kids that when they get unexpected money, like a bonus or a gift, spend half on whatever you like so you enjoy it, and put the other half in the bank. It's hard to save in the US, but you can do it if you look ahead and realize that everything will cost more in the future, so it needs to be a priority. 🙂

Regarding the "failure" podcast. I can definitely see how it can give such a positive feedback while being a less successful video. This kind of videos are useful but harder to watch. You are more likely to not finish it, watch it in parts or just click of youtube after that. It is less easy to watch than other podcasts. So while positive feedback gives positive effect on the video, general watching difficulty has opposite effect and you end up there

The fact that he openly said that he is socially awkward was so cool. As someone who is also socially awkward, watching some of his interactions in videos is so relatable, which is kinda hard to find in other creators. 26:49 I think when Minecraft dies and Hermitcraft ends, there will still be a place for remaining active hermits to put on story lines with friends. But honestly Minecraft may be around for another 10+ years. It definitely has the legs to continue fostering a creative atmosphere that will continue to generate interest.

It's been genuinely amazing to hear more about Joel's journey on RU-vid and his dedication and perseverance to both his viewers and videos! He has been and continues to be an icon in the Minecraft content creation space! Here's to hoping Joel builds a roller-coaster/rail cart system in Hermitcraft after the many roller-coaster conversations in the podcast XD

Im a Joel and Lizzie OG found them in 2014/15 when I was a lonely pre-teen. Found Grian in 2015/16 doing biuld swaps and build schools, then he joined Hermitcraft and ive been a viewer of probably 75% if not more of the Hermits sinse. But what really blew up my Imp and Skizz love was a mixture of the life series and Impulse joining the botem hole crew. I definetly watched lots of Impulse during season 6, I remember the creation of iTrade and biulding in that little pirate cove and I was soo blown away with everything

I discovered him through Empires, watching Pix (new to minecraft and his series really helped this *40 year old learn!) and found Joel - he is now one of the few I always cheer and try and watch asap, when I see an upload! Such a lovely lad 🥰 Also really like you guys, this is my first season watching Hermitcraft and tbh it's because of Joel & Skizz and the others from the Live series!

Maybe etho feels that way because he doesn’t play the algorithm. I’m not saying it’s bad or anything. But etho stays true to who he is and doesn’t really force himself to be dragged by the algorithm. Which might mean that youtube doesn’t push him to new audiences. I am a relatively new mc yt watcher. I watched etho because everybody else that showed up on my feed said etho was so amazing. Not cos etho popped on my feed. When you first start watching minecraft, it depends on where u start I suppose. But for me just getting into minecraft for the first time, Grian got pushed on me by the algorithm. And once u get into grian, the algo started showing me scar. The other hermits I only found because I actively wanted to complete my hermit viewership Etho is often seen as like a celebrity within mc yt. Like how mcc players reacted to etho’s first appearance on mcc or meeting him for the first time. So he has cult following a bit and like he’s seen as a classic and almost revered? By fans. But for newcomers to this content side, may miss etho on their feed I don’t think he has to change because he still has a large and loyal viewership. But if he feels discontent about new viewers, that may be why Xisuma talks about how etho not playing the algorithm could be a drawback or a strength to him because there are people that LOVE etho for exactly that reason

Re: Hytale I just saw a video the other day that was an interview with Noxy talking about the power of a single player in relation to how Technoblade impacted both hypixel and the trajectory of Hytale and he talks about the development and has some updates. So it's still a thing!
