I love entertainment & this is one of my all time favorite shows! These are the original screen tests of John Travolta, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Marcia Strassman, Robert Hegyes & Ron Palillo. I think it's interesting that Robert Hegyes tested for Barbarini (as it was pronounced) it makes you wonder who might have tested for Epstein...??? Robert of course has since passed away, as well as Ron and Marcia. We also lost John Sylvester White who played Mr. Woodman, and semi regular Debralee Scott who played Rosalie "Hotsie" Totsie. We love & remember them all for the laughter they gave us ❤

To the person that commented to me about not seeing this before..sorry I'm having problems with comments disappearing except in notification & email..not my video. So I can't respond back. But this is on the Season 1 DVD collection. And thanks for the comment.

Pure gold! What a joy watching these readings. It's funny watching Robert Hegyes auditioning for "Eddie Barbarini". Funny story, many years ago, mid '80s, I briefly met Ron Palillo on Hollywood & Vine while a friend and I waited for a bus to go home. It was right after a disappointing meeting at a record label and we were taking the bus home... Mr. Palillo, who was standing behind us, heard my comments and came over to give my friend and I some really nice words of encouragement... Then, when the person he was waiting for came out of the building, they left. It was a nice moment. Some years after that meeting, I briefly worked for John Travolta and Kelly Preston... I told John this story while we were having lunch one day and he smiled and said that it sounded just like Ron Palillo... He then said that Ron Palillo was the kind of person who would approach strangers, people he simply didn't know, and always offer kind words of encouragement where these words might be needed. I then told him that I once partied with Gabe Kaplan and Denny Terrio, of Dance Fever, which is also a true story... He then laughed hysterically and said, that this also sounded just like Gabe Kaplan! Sure, my band might not have hit it big, but I got around quite a bit, and I got to hang out, and even work with, some really cool people for so many years! ...And Ron Palillo was right, everything does have a way of working out for the better!

Wow...that's amazing! I love hearing about them being nice, down to earth people. But eventhough I live in KY I've got to meet several celebs & they've been very nice. I loved them all from WBK but my fav was Robert Hegyes as Epstein. I never got to meet anyone from the cast though. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences & thanks for watching!

@@velinawelch7470 Thank you... I guess it was pretty amazing. I've had quite a life with many great opportunities to work with so many great people. I guess this is why I found myself defending Ellen Degeneres on social media last year. Social media is a place where I never go to, but I felt the need to go in order to defend her... I knew her well some years ago and she was always kind to me and always took time to speak with me and ask me about my day; and it was genuine. Believe me, I know from firsthand experience that not everyone is kind, and boy, you'd be surprised to know who are the crappy people are, but there are more kind people than there are crappy ones; believe me. Thank you again for your kind words.

Gabe Kaplan being very animated always seemed to be speaking to the hearing impaired. Just the way he enunciated and seemingly "signed" with his hands.... check him out

This is really eye-opening! Shows you what it takes to be an actor on stage. When they get in character it’s magical how they appear to believe everything they say and could make you believe it too! I guess that’s what makes them so good!

Welcome Back Kotter, Mash and Bewitched are my favourite American comedies. I heard that John Travolta did not have to audition for 'Saturday Night Fever', he was automatically given the role of Tony as the producers remembered him from 'Welcome Back Kotter' and liked him.

Robert thought he was Barbarino till he met JT and the producer in the elevator and was told he was Epstein. He asked one question. DO I get the same pay? When told yes. He did not care

@@j.tshark3313 He lived in my neighborhood in Venice Beach, along with Lawrence Tierney and John Lydon. I used to run into these characters a lot. For some reason, all these scary people liked me. They'd invite me over, but I never went. Always felt like things could go sideways at a moment's notice, so I stayed away.

@@mikeshelogowski434 Ron, right? I can kinda see what you mean, right before he says his lines. Maybe he was just nervous? He looks more nervous a bit to me, also keep in mind "Kotter" was the very first time he ever acted on TV, so maybe it was probably a bit of stage freight at first doing Arnold for the very first time back then during this screen test.
