34:00 I absolutely agree with you! I have been streaming full time since april, and not full time for 14 years now. I have no idea what I need to prepare to ask for 5K USD to organize a tournament. And every time I tried I just didn't get any real answer from anyone. I really hope Nili can make reaching for sponsor more transparent and easier. I have hosted tournaments with Aorus Gigabyte, with online games, even hosted with other sponsors a total of 40.000+ USD, charity events for thousands as well, yet the only time I was able to get Microsoft sponsor was when I teamed up with T90! And don't get me wrong, I'm his #1 fan and love hosting with him, but it would be nice to be able to host my own events as well :(. Being completely honest, in the spanish-community the sentiment is that no matter what we do we will never get sponsorship on or own, and that is just sad for me as a full-timer. So I'm putting my faith Nili can change this and make things more equal and make it seem less like only close friends get all the money, even if I personally know that's not the case Thanks for the episode, loved it as always
Yo Masmorra, I got to say, talking about all these players being elevated and showing what they can do, you taking the lead in this podcast you've only gotten better and better. Your communication style, humour, ease of back and forth and guiding the conversation, and clear excitement in the topic is just top tier and even getting better. It's always incredibly fun to watch. I've watched all these podcasts. Keep up the good work ❤
Congrats to Viper and Debbie. Great to see T90 here too. Good work as always Masmorra. EDIT Re AOE calendar, this podcast is actually the easiest way for some of us who are older and busier to consume AOE2 content.
1:04:09 YEEEES! I TOTALLY AGREE! I HAVE BEEN WAITING YEARS FOR ANOTHER T90 2V2 WORLD CUP! IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE VIDEOS AND MEMORIES WATCHING IT! ESPECIALLY WITH HOW MUCH BETTER PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN AND MORE PLAYERS ARE INVOLVED FROM THE SAME COUNTRIES ASWELL WOULD MAKE FOR A BANGER TOURNAMENT! T90 PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN!
I think the main reason for all the upsets in ShenAiXie cup is simply the fact that all those players are at actually quite similar level when it comes to Arabia so it's not unlikely that seemingly weaker player would beat a stronger one. It's certainly an oddity that concentration was so high this time but also... it was about time such thing finally happened. Probability dictates that even unlikely scenarios will happen every now and then and this was probably the case here. Viper being distracted with his newborn (congrats!) certainly enhanced the situation, basically "taking care of" one top spot, so statistics only had to deal with remaining ones ;)
Hi GL, Great podcast and really good insights from T90. In case you are planning to invite T90 for future invites, below are some of the question I as a viewer would be intrigued to know about. 1. What all steps are taken to organize a high scale tournament like HC, NAC, Wololo etc. 2. How they reach out to sponsors. Now it would be easy but how they did it when he organized 1st HC. 3. What were the challenges back then and how they overcame. And what are the challenges now to organize a tournament. 4. How they decide on the map pool of their tournament. And how they decide on drafting format. 5. Is it possible to reintroduce 1 civ tournament, like Huns war back in the days. If yes, which civs would be good choice for such tournaments.
I love how Daniel vs Yo ended up being the most common matchup despite how few total games Daneil has. Playing in US time seems to be giving Yo quite the boost for farming some Elo.
Dear T90…. “Money goes a long way in Uruguay” …..actually not really, to be independent nowadays here you need 2k usd a month and over…. Cost of living it’s crazy high compared to many of our neighbor countries (SADLY)
Ouch, sorry to hear that. I just read up more on it and it seems like it's a tough place to live in because prices are high while salaries are not. You say you need 2k usd a month to live but even the average salary is much lower, not to mention those below average... so almost everyone is forced to live together with other people to share the costs.
Great podcast as always! Just one correction, money does not go a long way in Uruguay. It is the most expensive country in south america. 1st world prices with a little bit higher than 3rd world salaries.
I think the per capita income in Uruguay is ~10k so winning the recent arabia cup for 3k is like 4 months average salary. Easier to commit vs living in America where 3k might pay the bills for a 6 weeks.
So I pretty much watch every 1v1 tourney, but I tend not to watch team tournaments unless it's 2v2. It's not about the stats or how busy it is, I can clearly see what is happening in the map. But in my opinion in a 4v4 it's kinda hard to get hyped about any specific player, like it feels like in such games a player can always either under- or over-perform and you might not realize it as a viewer (unless it's crazy shenanigans like Lyx lmao), so it's sort of hard to feel emotionally invested in the match. It's just a mass of players mashing units on 2-4 fronts with trade in the back In a 1v1 there's a lot more raw, undiluted competitive energy!
I think it isn't necesseraley 4v4 that is disorienting in itself, it is BF in particular, because the 2 sides and mostly 2 chockepoints that is being played. For example an open map woudl make a cleaner viewing expiriense imo. But maybe I'm wrong and it would be even more big of a sh*tshow
Masmorra, every civ is viable on Arabia, that's why Arabia is good. The difference between the best and worst civs on Arabia is inconsequential in comparison to the best and worst civs on closed and hybrid/water maps.
All of the GL guys except Hera are 30+ right? Time catches up to everyone and these new guys are coming. Not saying that the GL guys aren't still top 5-8 but time is undefeated. Except when it comes to Daut of course.
to say a pro player wasn’t ready for arabia is kind of an excuse imo. NOT TRYING TO BE A HATER but they play the game enough to know how arabia games go. all players played extremely well. this arabia series had me itching at the chaos lol
Great series and nice episode. Just a comment I felt is Masmorra talks a lot. Its like to a ask a simple question he almost takes 2 mins and because he has spoken so much, the answer is hardly few words. This might just be me, but felt many times the question is clear but he tries to explain and reexplain same thing even before giving the other guy opportunity to talk.
T90 is a great guy and a good content creator. Blessed to have him in the scene. That being said, I feel like this podcast is better with a professional player in opposition to masmorra. In this épisode both participants had the same naïve / optimistic approach to every subjects. For exemple, I feel like any pro would've reminded the audience that if the arabia cup had this many upset, it's also because it was A tier an top pros don't prepare for those. Either ways, always happy just to have an aoe podcast to listen to.
Honestly, I think this analysis is a bit off. So, first of all, a coaching advice: don't be pissed by mistakes. This can be a way to highlight a certain statement, but doing it permanently just makes people feel bad, hurts confidence and it also makes your own analysis worse because you go into a spiral where you talk yourself into anger and start making inaccurate, non-helpful statements. The longer the video, the more you just ramble. Here's why I think the analysis is off: You're analysing why AGGRESSION is extremely powerful on this level. Bad walling? Helps any aggression. Late up-times? Amazing for an Xbow-Spike or Siege-push or a Castle drop. No Monks? As much, they won't make Siege against Xbows. You were spot on when you said that the early Castle Age is ultra important on that level. To find out why Knights are so good, you need to find out, why people can't convert an Xbow-Spike or a different approach. Btw, many decisions that won't make sense for you, actually make much more sense if you're on that level. These players play much more in the dark than you, they are living off guesses (which is bad and this would be the first issue to tackle but that's actually a bit of an apm issue too and an experience issue big time). That's why he's doing Bodkin probably: He has no clue how much his opponent producing and he could easily have 10-15 Knights in his base in a minute with no army. Many players go crazy all-in on Knights at this level and you don't know it! Getting 2-3 additional Camels out will not safe you there. TCs will be the only thing protecting you, so better make them work. It failed because the other guy went for eco - which he had no clue about for a lack of army and army activity. But that's actually very hard to avoid if you're playing defensive with a late up-time, so the game is sort of lost before that already, because you concede all initiative in Feudal. Mostly, he just got outmacroed there and when you're being outmacroed, there's not much to do against a Boom-Knight-approach.
