Welcome to American Voices and Visions 

Leading contemporary artists including Sam Gilliam, Audrey Flack, Luis Jiménez, Alison Saar, Kay Walkingstick, and Kerry James Marshall, among many others, are featured in this celebration of art. Their voices come together to speak on the incredible power of art, and its important role in our lives and communities. Their work is on view in “American Voices and Visions: Modern and Contemporary Art,” the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s reopened and reimagined modern and contemporary galleries. Featuring nearly 100 artworks, the installation invites essential conversations around who is included in the story of American art. “American Voices and Visions” acknowledges the multifaceted narratives, identities, and artistic practices that exist in the United States and highlights often-overlooked histories.
