Can I just give massive props to the main guy who showed you around, answered every question and was 1000% honest, knew heaps about the town, etc. big up.
Which is why living in a small country town on the southern coast of Australia I have to show ID because they drive down here when they can't get it in the territory .
The drinking ban is not about racism!! Most elders support the alcohol ban. Check what goes on to small children in some of those communities, the ban is to save them.
Your one of those one's that listened to John Howard's bullshit about paedophile rings they had such a problem with in those communities And thought it was reasonable to rashen their water usage in remote communities...
I think it is important for people who have no idea about Indigenous communities to understand what is a “dry community”. If you live in a “dry community” , the community and the elders have CHOSEN not to have alcohol. If you live in this type of community you are not supposed to drink, you cannot have alcohol in the community or bring it in. You are not supposed to go out of the community and then go back in, drunk. The way it is being portrayed here, for whatever reason, is very disingenuous. The locals are not telling the full story. I loved Alice Springs. Now I’m glad my family moved out. It’s heartbreaking.
Bro, dead set I don't think anyone else has ever shown sheltered folk like us down in Sydney what Alice is like, that was fkn insane. You're doing legit fantastic journalism man.
Out of all the recent news stories and docos about Alice Springs, this is by far and away the best. Gives a real insight that nobody else has been able to. Keep up the great work Spanian.
I was born and lived over 40 years in Alice. My Dad and brother still live there. My 83yo Dad has been broken into several times, hospitalised. This isn't the town I grew up in 😢. I've reserved my burial plot next to my Mum. It will always be home. Intervention needs to happen to allow people to feel safe.
I grew up there, too, and it was pretty bad when I lived there. My dad is 60 and works at the hospital there, and I worry about him. It's rough as guts out there. I still see it as my home, too, regardless of how it is. I hope your dad is okay ♥️
I had a friend do a stint as a copper in Alice. He said it was pretty common advice for people visiting that "If you hit someone on the road in the middle of the night, don't stop to check. Call the cops and drive to the police station. If you get out your car you'll probably be killed or seriously injured by friends/family of whoever got hit." I was a bit skeptical... but seeing this... I dunno man. I could see that shit happenning pretty easily.
Ive seen it happen, the driver was a security guard and was lucky enough to have backup arrive very quickly. The woman who was hit was chased onto the road by a fella with a stick, he turned on the guard blaming him when it was clearly his own fault. Bit of context, it was night time and the two had been chasing each other up and down the road yelling abuse and throwing things at each other. The police had been called but as is usual it can take several hours for them to get around to attending.
Having experience of life in the outback, I would agree. I had a friend that lived her whole life in Mt. Isa, she was driving home one night and there was a wake at the hotel outside of town. A brawl broke out and spilled onto the road, unfortunately she hit someone, didn't hurt them in any way, but they pulled her out of the car and bashed her within an inch of her life, she was 69 years old. She spent months in the hospital trying to recover, she never did. She no longer felt safe living there as nothing was done and no charges pressed. I know from first hand experience having gone through a stabbing in Sydney involving and indigenous person, she stabbed her partner 7 times with 5 different steak knives, she got a 3 month good behaviour bond.... go figure. I was advised by the Police that if she was white she would have spent at least 15 years in jail. They wonder why we don't treat them as equals.
Shout out to Stumpz and Harley for showing you around and being fantastic guides, absolute legends! 👏 You got a much better insight into the place as a whole having these two brilliant dudes with you and introducing you to the community. They were both so chill and friendly and very helpful, also love Stumpz's rad car! 🤙 This was definitely the best Into The Hood episode yet, it was a real eye opener that certainly shone a light on an interesting community which has clearly got more than it's fair share of social problems but also highlighted the community spirit that still exists. Spanian you just keep on raising the bar with these insightful vlogs, you're well and truly the best out there brother! Cheers to everyone involved in this video, what a hectic, crazy ride! 🤙👌👊

Watched the episode & hard 2 believe how much Alice has changed since I lived there in the 80's - mid 90's. My daughter was born in Alice in 1992. She left there at young age so always hoped to go back 4 visit with her. Regardless how bad things may be getting up there. Will always have great memories of the Alice & the Territory. Cheers mate & congrats on all your achievements & how u turned your life around.
I reckon you should do an 'OUTTA THE HOOD' series and show people from these hoods who have gotten out of there situation for the better and share their stories to inspire change in these communities, just an idea. 🙏
I've worked and lived around a lot of aboriginal people. From what I have seen a lot of the problems they face come from within their own families, communities and culture. The most important thing they need is strong leadership and role models in their lives. As for the booze - universally it causes problems everywhere it shows up.
I hear you, but how can you rely on your family when their great and great great grandparents from not too many moons ago were treated the way they were. Unfortunately the intergenerational trauma cycle is not as easy to break and some would think.

Stumpy and the lads did a great job. Aside from a few punch ons, the overriding vibe i get from the people here in Alice springs is love! ty 4 vid lad
Went to Alice Springs a couple of years ago. Ventured to the heart of the city, felt so unsecured I left straight away and never came out of my hotel until I left. The only place in Australia where I felt scared.
We went to a similar but smaller place; Bourke. We told our hotel we'd arrive at about 10pm. They said we had to get there before 9 because they close the 11 foot gates and don't open them for anything.
I'm hearing you. I'll never go back and it will be a ghetto in a couple of years. All the whities, who keep the place like it is, will leave and see how long it will take before it is destroyed. Like Boggabilla, NSW.
Man props to the boxing Gym coach. Ppl don’t understand how hard it is but how good it feels to do positive things after a life of crime. Making positive change and growth by helping youth to keep them off the same path you did is a great feeling. Trying to balance out that karma for your past. Much respect to him. I made the same changes, I now travel and give motivational speeches to at risk youth all over Canada 🇨🇦. 💯💯💯
I would never want to go there and see it anyways. Not safe to walk around and go out for a nice meal with friends at night without being caught up with the drunken violence…..much nicer places to holiday in with this beautiful country…….
The cop was stabbed in the neck before he shot the kid. A kid who bashed his girlfriend. And handouts are not working. To many city flogs running the money with no idea.
Correct. His own family called the police to come and get him, he then lied about his identity and attacked them with scissors. The police officer was exonerated because he proved that he only followed the training he received from the NT Police Academy, which was that edged weapon = knife, which means you can shoot in self defence. The NT police tried and failed to make him the officer a sacrificial lamb.
Similar thing happened when I lived in Kalgoorlie, a young kid stole a dudes bike, the dude saw it all happen and chased after the kid in his car. The kid crashed the bike into a tree trying to flee and sadly died, then the whole town went into lock-down for over a week due to riots because families wanted to kill the dude that chased the kid. It's wild!
And they also forgot to mention the reason he ended up bleeding out was cause the hospital staff left cause the day before he went in there with a axe that’s why the cops got called out there
Honestly man spanian has shown at LOT more than any news channel or networks within Australia. Going in and documenting EVERYTHING about these towns is doing way more than any other news channel.
Yep, the media in Australia is all controlled by the left, so they will never show the aboriginals in a bad light. Hence why we never hear anything about it in the mainstream media.
Every Australian needs to watch this video. If this was going on in a major city, it would dealt with extremely quickly. Because it’s happening in such a remote location, most Australians don’t even know about it.
I live in a regional town where nearly 10% of the residents are indigenous. If the groups gathering and having wild brawls were white, the police would make arrests. If the groups were indigenous, only the most violent of the perpetrators would be arrested. Police have told me that they are under instructions to go easy on indigenous people, for fear of being labelled racist.
I worked for 6 months out in Arnhem land at a place called Bulmen best place i ever work beautiful country great people community was a dry one. lived 2 km out of town but can say just like places everywhere the grog destroys peoples lives. all the problems the grog and drug cause can be prevented. @@jsh4btThis is what happens when a government is in power for 9 yrs and steals ,cuts and transfers indigenous funding to golf clubs . Eg Dutton and the LNP crime family.
I think it's a subconscious call for help... Even if they don't realize that themselves, they look up to someone who has experienced what they have in life, but has also learnt from their "school of hard knocks" and decide to change and move out of that. It's definitely something to look up to, like an addict whom kicks their addiction. It's a hard path to walk and it's why we aspire to be like those who have already walked it.
Seeing a guy like spanian who was brought up in one of the roughest areas in Sydney looking visibly shocked when he was in Alice Springs really showcased how much the government tried to sweep all this under the rug. Cheers for showing us how the situation really is and appreciate all your hard work
I'm not going to lie bro, I've been going through some hard times, this channel helps bring it back down to earth, keep it up. Missed you in Dandenong. Stay strong brother. Melbourne love.
I was raised in the projects in Russia during the Soviet Collapse, then got adopted and then put in the group home after living 3 years with the adoptive family, and the dumbest thing I witnessed living in these type of neighborhoods is young dudes willing to die for a block they dont own
What do you mean when you say "young dudes willing to die for a block they don't own"...cumn from Russia ur knowledge of Aboriginal culture and Traditional Lores clearly ain't sumthn ur aware of... and Russia was never invaded by another country or Nation.... my people the Aboriginal people of this country have been here for thousands and thousands of years and Traditional Lore at Alice Springs is very much alive unlike most parts of Australia where many of my people have lost their languages and traditional customs and Lores thx to colonization.... therefore there is so much difference between ur experience than wotz going on with my people.... much respect to ur people and ur country but u cannot compare wotz happened to my people since colonization to anything u may have experienced in ur Motherland...as THE ABORIGINAL PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY ALL OF AUSTRALIA IS OUR MOTHERLAND.... that we have lived upon for thousands and thousands of years and our connection to our land is probably the same as it's in Russia
@@rosiekickett2617 There needs to be more books written on the Aboriginal genocide. Never been more ashamed to be Australian after watching John Pilger's documentary "Australia's Dirty Secret" I do have hope though, as my daughter's generation have compulsory education - her and her peers are proud and respectful of the Aboriginal culture. Many older Australians still have this ignorance as you read in these comments. A lack of comprehension of the dispossession and abuse . Also you have many Indigenous -women especially - Amy McQuire, Chelsea Watego , Melinda Mann ( to name a few) rising in writing and academia .

Thank you for your perspective. That's true, its stupid and sad .. we used to have postcode gangs that would hate on & bash each other just because they lived in another postcode.
Back in the 80's we were camped just outside of Alice Springs, slept with a 🔫 beside us and let the dogs out literally, only heard corroboree's like noises and load talking. Work up the next day, checked the dogs in the ute and headed off to SA for work. Happy days.
Man this is genuinely eye-opening. It's one thing to see those snippets of violence in the news, but to see the whole context around it raw like this is just mindblowing. I hope the govt is watching these carefully.
Then don't sell drink...if its such a problem nobody should be earning..everybody goes a bit mad on the drink once or twice in there life but I'm pretty sure sober folks can go just as crazy if push them but bottom line it's human rights too consume that's what laws are for if you break the law u go court but banning people will only store up anger beetween diff groups..you think they can't make own booze easy enough it's easiest thing in the world...but letting one group drink n others not is only gonna cause tension should treat all the same...
It’s actually because aborigines can’t process alcohol properly. Their bodies digest 1 unit per 4 hours whereas most other people digest 1 unit an hour.
The truth in one sentence. It is also a loaded, politicised racial topic...but basically it boils down to an attempt at harm reduction for everyone. Which is a good thing.
Eye opening brother ! No one else could get this kind of access and respect out there. You are killing it mate ! The content is fire and best of all you and the videos are genuine 🙏
Before you go around undoing the injustice handed out to indigenous people in Alice Springs Town camps by buying them booze as they are "discriminated against" you need to understand why these rules are in place and who made them. The rules are in place to minimise domestic violence against women and children and to minimise sexual assault against children in the camps as behaviours are very negatively affected when people in these camps are under the influence of alcohol. The restrictions are requested by the leaders in the camps (e.g. elders) and are then enforced by police aids.....the rules were not made by "white man" as a means of discrimination. Before you make judgement, you need to have an understanding as to why and how certain practices came into being. Example - if you have ever driven around the communities, you will notice many items are on the roofs of the houses, (stones, sticks, chairs, bikes, etc)......why?........when a fight breaks out the women go around and chuck these items onto the roofs as they cannot then be used as weapons by the people fighting. I worked and lived in Arnhem Land, Alice Springs, etc for 15+ years.........and have some idea why things are the way they are........if you have NO understanding then don't try to change it.
My bro was a bouncer in alice springs he been stabbed up multiple times he got outta there quick fast lucky to be alive he said its the meanest place hes worked at
Respect to Spanian. Last time I checked his channel a few years ago he was a bit of a meme. Now he is doing better journalism about Alice Springs than I could find on legacy media. Balls of steel for actually hitting the streets.
You're not a journalist cos you take a camera to a place and start filming . And the only reason the other media stations don't talk about this is because nothing can be done about it so what's the point ? This whole idea of just constantly showing things but not actually doing anything about it it's completely useless
@@crystellenielsen1288 we've been aware of the situation for a long time and nothing can be done and spreading it over social media and all the news stations every day is not going to do anything until we admit that different solutions are needed for different types of human beings . Should have had a guide on both sides tho.. this is called embedded reporting, look it up. The fact that he's white doesnt look like he represents the white community in Alice at all. Obviously the issues there are VERY 2 sided, why the 1 sided approach?? Its as bad as if you had only talked to the white community there and no aboriginals..
Crazy to think that I've lived for 40 years in this country and don't know a fraction of what's going on in it because the only source of information was from mainstream media and the news. It took relatively unknown RU-vidrs like Spanian and Avi Yemini to travel around, get amongst it and show the real stories. RIP mainstream propaganda!
We know what happened it was never this bad. Everything changed when the police went woke. Now kids as young as 9 or 19 are wandering the streets at night. Kids are not going to school either which is illegal but natives get a pass.

It's based on a person's address & if they have somewhere 'safe' 2 drink it. (ie, out of sight.) It applies 2 others (travellers not just homeless) without an 'appropriate' address. They didn't go into any of that tho. It basically comes down 2 racism. If u haven't lived there u wouldn't notice how invasive it is. "It's apparently like third world country"- people in third world countires don't behave like this, neither they are getting payouts from government that encourage the locals even more. Australia needs to get their shit together and control the situation. It's time to stop financially supporting this behaviour.
Lived in Alice for some time and met a beautiful local boy. We lived together for 4 years but tragically he died on a night out after getting into an altercation with a drug fulled coward scum. I hope one day the violence stops because people are actually losing their lives. He was 26. RIP Bingz 🙏

that footage is just speechless. I have never ever seen something so out of control. What a total failure of government policy. Good on you spanian for showing us how it actually is because the media never paint the same picture.
It’s a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation. Cops get called racist for enforcing the law. They’re blaming the cops when the blame is squarely on them. The cops are doing everything they legally can and if it turns to a police state then oh well not the cops fault.
So sick and tired of hearing people like you talking about the failures of the government policy where people will not be accountable for their own actions .I still have close friends that are indigenous from when we were youngsters and they work hard with good homes.Stop the blame game.

I’m in Sydney and plenty of people talk about Alice Springs. What makes me very very sad is they blame the community and not the governments failures. People do not seem to understand the issues that actually hurt these people and are so so quick to judge and point the finger at them. A lot of education is clearly needed for this perspective to change in support of the community members.
I grew up in Alice Springs back in the early 90s. This breaks my heart, I loved growing up there, it was safe to ride around town in the middle of the night.
Agreed. I lived there in 91/2 and would regularly go out at night and rarely got hassled and if you did it was not by someone from the indigenous community. More like a drunken idiot staggering out of Bojangles or somewhere similar. I have fond memories of the place and am saddened to see it in such disarray.
I was thinking - I've never been there, I live in Melbourne. But I've had mates over the years that lived there a few years and come back to Melbourne and they never said anything like this. A bit rough, sure - but not this. This is fucking Mad Max shit.
Although I get it’d be exciting to see him walking through your hometown, I’m still shook by how many people proclaim they’re massive fans & just run up on him, grab him & hang off his back yelling in his ear… that’d make anybody nervous AF, but fans should know that’s one of the most nerve racking things you could do to him personally. YOU know you mean no harm & it’s all love, but he doesn’t. Put yourself in his shoes… Lots of people are wise & respectful to that & don’t stand right behind him, put their hand out 👊 🤝 & ask for photos but way too many do the complete opposite & I just don’t understand why fans would do that, esp when there’s no need to… He’s prob the most generous figure we have with his time, never says no to a photo & poses with everyone like they’re family & truly appreciated, he’s always genuinely happy to shake hands, have a chat & give shout outs, but that will deff stop one day at this rate, it’ll have to!! He has kids & a Mrs that need him home safe. Not literally making him question his safety is the biggest way to show it’s all love & you’re a true fan. Let him give his love & attention like he always does, don’t run up & just take it. It’s scary 😳😳 That’s my rant done 😅😅
