Fantastic work Dave! New to the hobby and to your channel. Building my first layout in TT120 scale and really inspired by your work. Cheers!

Looks great already, I really understand the idea of simplicity so I appreciate that aspect a lot. Looking forward to more!

Wow it's looking great . The track looks superb good idea about the ballasting. Lovely long platforms and sidings. It's going to be a super layout. Look forward to seeing your next video. Best wishes Richard

Thanks Richard, it's not everyone's cup of tea doing the ballasting like I have done it but I found it much more straight forward, Im confident I can make it look realistic once I've added more track detail such as scatter, Bush etc. and it keeps my point nice and clear. Super easy to do, I just painted the track bed area with Pva then spread the ballast evenly over the pva and allow to dry, then simply pin your track down over the ballast and I then sprayed the track with the track grime spray. Thanks for your comments there will be another layout update video early next week. 👍

Nice - Like the idea of the slot-in town/village in the centre. Also like the station footbridge - you've given me an idea... :)

What a great idea laying down the ballast first, that's how its done on real railways. I suppose the critical thing is getting it level and even for the track. Did you lay the track on the ballast while it was still drying or did you wait till had set?
@davidrigby7984
@davidrigby7984 Месяц назад
I applied a thin layer of pva with a brush, then scattered the ballast over the top, waited until dry, and then hoovered off. as long as you just paint the glue on and it's not all thick and lumpy, you will get a consistent level track bed. it's been much simpler in my eyes And no messing around tying to ballast around point work. also if and track work needs to be replaced in the future it's more straight forward. thanks for watching.

ive not had a train set since about being 9 or ten years old, mid 80s, a lot of the reason is just not really ever had the room for it, but thinking of getting back into it with this scale, seems a good balanced scale.

It's a nice in-between scale, N scale is little too small and oo gauge requires a large area for a decent size layout. Good luck with your future layout 👍

Peachytt120, thanks 👍 I wanted to make the layout so I could lift up out the way if needed, it's just in some robust door hinges on a battern bolted to the wall and it works flawless. Thanks again

Thanks for that Dave I find every bit of RU-vid video on TT120 helpful. I’m building a TT 120 layout myself and like you. I have a lift up section at one end and also a hole in the middle where I am as well going to build a village scene with a lake et cetera is there enough gap between the garage wall and your layout for buildings are such as your railway station not to get the roof crushed when your layout is against the wall and can I also ask with the rail grime. Do you need to clean the tops and the inside of the rails after spraying, so the wheels of the locos Get a good electrical contact. Cheers mate keep up the good work. Look forward to seeing your journey. Steve

Thanks for the comments Steve, well the plan is to have to far edge as mainly storage lines so there will be no buildings to catch the wall when in lifted position, when its lifted its not fully vertical its kind of an angle, but frees space in the garage if needed. on my next video I will show you what the layouts like in a folded position, it's not been up for a while as I've been working on it. As for the track grime once you have sprayed the entire track, all you need to do is run your finger with a cloth down the top of the rails don't worry about down the side, as long as the top surface of the rail is clear of spray it is fine. I highly recommend the track grime spray its a game changer. check out Daves model railway channel, he has videos on there of him doing it. hopes this helps and thank you for taking time to comment and watch the videos. 👍
