Sista, l was born and raised in Mission hill projects in Roxbury. I just wanted to let you know that the Black Mecca of Boston was actually Beacon hill downtown Boston. . The black communities was later pushed into South end, Roxbury, Jamaica plain , Dorchester and Mattapan.

@FariX
@FariX 2 месяца назад
@@TheBlessed9zChamber I definitely didn't exaggerate at all. I spoke on the truth of how it was then and now. And I'm not sure in what way you're using the word "desolation" but the city definitely doesn't give 1-2-or 3 fcks about the inner-city "the hoods" like that because if they did then much more would have been done to make it a more beautiful place. Boston isn't a poor city, they have the funds to use to fix the neighborhoods but they only fix what benefits THEM. There is absolutely no reason why Esmond St still looks the way it does after 20+ years. They only really care about places where college students and people that move here for work can live and rest their heads. They only really care about what looks good for tourists. That's why construction in other areas take forever. There's no reason why the streets is still fkd up and being worked on in Roxbury from Dudley and Blue Hill going up towards Grove Hall. There's no real urgency when it comes to the black and Latino neighborhoods. No exaggeration at all!

The African Meeting House on Beacon Hill built in 1806 is the oldest Black Church in the country. Dorchester and Roxbury were mostly White and mostly Irish and Jewish in the early 1900s until the 1940s and 1950s when "White flight" started and they moved to the suburbs. I grew up off Blue Hill Ave on Lucerne Street. We walked up Balsam to get to Blue Hill Ave. It was all 3 deckers back then, but now there are developments and parking lots.. It was a mixed neighborhood back then. My friends were a mix of White Black, Hispanic, and Asian and many from different countries. We were into skating at the Chez Vous. My parents bought a house in the suburbs when I was just starting junior high. It was culture shock after growing up in the city. As soon as I graduated from high school, I moved back into the city. Enjoyed your video. Curious, why your sister was into fighting back then.

So I was homeless in Massachusetts. I was living on the street and addicted to drugs. I was living in Haverhill. Lawrence, Methuen and Dorchester. Sometimes I'd be in Boston. I was all over the place but I got to say there are some scary places especially if you're not from here but I really didn't have that many issues when I was living on the street. Besides with the cops they were the only ones harassing me. There were a few guys that tried some slick s*** but but they learned really quickly that I wasn't going to deal with it. Homelessness and all that is very prevalent due to the fact that everything is so expensive now especially with taxes and Massachusetts. I'm now 2 to 3 years clean and loving my life living with my family. We can change sometimes. Just takes changing our scenery❤

26:00 definitely aint no rich neighborhood, bunch of dilapidated houses in blocks with cracked up stairways just like ny clown. And throughout the video she talks about the gentrification that has made these neighborhoods look nicer where black and brown folks have been having to move out cuz of housing prices increasing while white ppl are moving in. She's telling u how it was in the 90s, prior to gentrification. Get ya 2 braincell hating NY ahh outta here. Besides this is just the berry fr. They didnt show mattapan, the projects or the bricks and the section 8, or dorchester which imo is a much better representation of what the hood is really like in boston atleast in modern times. 90s is a different story as she explains in the video.
@andrew5744

i'll admit that NY hoods is more city like and embodies the urban feel tho. u gotta understand boston roads and eveything were made by freaking pilgrims starting way way back and was never adjusted and thats why our roads are all crazy and ppl talk about boston drivers cuz its harder to drive here than other places. Urban NY is way more organized into cramped blocks. Like looking at a map of NY to Boston, boston got rotaries and weird turns and angles everywhere while NY looks like a grid of blocks

@@kodakblowup 1st , Thank you for wanting to make a video about our beautiful city ❤yall did a nice job ! Maybe if you make another video , you must come to Fort Hill in Roxbury to see the gorgeous historic neighborhood where the Black Jesus stands proudly for us and Lenox Projects has a mural of Dr.Martin L. King and his lovely wife Coretta ❤and then right around the corner from that is one of the original markets were you can find anything from around the world , Tropical Foods which is in Nubian Square formaly known as Dudley station. Yes. there's so much history in Boston and it's neighborhoods that you would have to probably have to dedicate a whole channel for it ❤ Thanks again 🙋🏽‍♀️ yall !!

I grew up in Roxbury and I’m glad gentrification hit. I wish our culture could have gotten it together, progressed out of the bullshit, and taken ownership of the hood, but I don’t miss the times she’s reminiscing on. There wasn’t nothing fun or cool about having to watch where I was at because of affiliations or knowing that most of the people I rocked with as a youngin are either dead, in jail, or bums. I don’t blame white people for gentrification. I blame us as black people because we don’t prioritize civility, education, and awareness and that’s why we don’t have shit. Too busy turning up off of the Don Julio and bangin sets. Not enough of us are concerned with things that actually impact structural change, but then we complain about why we don’t have any control or say over anything.
