I’ve taken my 8th graders from Washington State to Mount Vernon about a dozen times over the years that I’ve done my East Coast history trip. It is definitely a highlight to visit the home of our first President. The house and grounds are meticulously kept, and the large interactive museum dedicated to the life of George Washington is not to be missed.
My daughter, and I visited Mt Vernon in November 2017. I would love to visit it again, there is so much to see, and do that one day is never enough time.
I visited here in the 90's. The tour is a must see. It's such a wonderful historical place. I loved sitting in the chairs along the back of the house and enjoying the view.
i know i will never visit virginia but by just seeing this documentary , i was crying he was a visionary back then , he had written fair fax resolution, his discomfort about slavery , hope some day i will visit virgina , sad i won't but love you washington you are my inspiration
Was here back in November 2018, being in the very house and bedroom where he lived and passed is an overwhelming experience that i have treasured ever since
It's unthinkable for those of us today to consider letting something as historic as our first presidents home set and decay and yet, that is what happened.
I want to say thank you for saving the home n estate. George Washington is my ancestry uncle. My mom is named after his mother. Marry ball. Iv been there a few times we don't live to far from there just down in the Bristol VA/TN area
With the way the world is going it makes me nervous that historic sites will get left behind. I could sound out of my mind. But I hope this is a site that stays forever
by Ben Johnson Under the command of Captain Robert Salmond, H.M.S. Birkenhead left Portsmouth in January 1852 taking troops to fight in the Frontier War in South Africa. The Birkenhead, one of the first iron hulled paddle steamers in service travelled to southern Ireland, before heading for the Cape on 17th January. The troops onboard included drafts of Fusiliers, Highlanders, Lancers, Foresters, Rifles, Green Jackets and assorted other regiments of the British Army. After taking on fresh water and supplies the Birkenhead steamed out of Simon’s Bay near Cape Town, in the late afternoon of 25th February, with about 634 men, women and children on board. With weather conditions perfect, a clear blue sky and a flat and calm sea, the Birkenhead continued steadily on her passage.
The apartments where salmon colored however salmon and fish bears. Salmon Mr salmon with the computer teacher at pound Middle School when I went to school.
I'm getting tired of conspiracies against the United States with my life and I'm tired of Robert Chase having my children on the opposition insurgence line. Lancaster County Nebraska. My station identification is Williston North Dakota currently.
The house and grands are absolutely wondrous and majestic. Your staff, however, are complete jerks. We paid for a tour and yet we weren’t allowed to go upstairs. At the tomb, I asked the attendant a question, and because I was probably less than six feet from him, he completely turned his back on me and moved away. I was appalled. If you need tourism to maintain the beautiful house, then perhaps you should hire nicer people.

“Freedom and stability Americans enjoy today”. Don’t know what America the narrator is living in. But we are far from free or stable. Par for the course that the leader of liberty also had slaves and was a Freemason. Working against the very government he led. 😂
I visited Mt. Vernon with my kids last week. I reminded them that this guy owned slaves and like many of the earlier leaders should not be put on a pedestal.
I bet you didn’t tell your kids that mohammad was a white man who bought, owned and sold black slaves. I bet you didn’t tell them that every slave to step foot in north America was purchased from a muslim slave market. I’d rather be historically correct than politically correct 😊
This is MOST inspiring!!! I just shared it to my family and friends on Facebook. Before I die, I hope to make the trip from Hawaii to see Mount Vernon!!! ;o)
I visited in the summer of 2019 , to this day i have fond memories of this place . Something so mesmerizing and magical you feel like having stepped back into centuries . Totally worth multiple visits .
It is a complete tour, but notjing compare withj a real vist, I was thaere when I was as a student in Hing School at Mount Scholastic around in 1981 it was a wonderfull day, it is so beautfull, God Bless you America-----------------------
My parents brought my sister and I to Mount Vernon, from Connecticut in the 1970's. This video brought back fond memories of the visit and tresured time with my parents. Thank you!
Thank you attentive sir, for appropriately correcting my writing upon sharing a warm, childhood memory of my deceased parents. I didn't realize there would be an English monitor in this forum. You must be extremely busy, considering how expansive the internet is. For this reason I appreciate your reaching out to me specifically. I will be sure to count my blessings each day, rejoicing that I am not burdened with your immense responsibility to correct millions of stranger's writing! Everyone should thank this selfless gentleman when he corrects your appalling writing! : ) @@michaelwhite7876
People forget the financial dependence we had on slaves then, and how the founders had to face significant financial burdens to give them better lives, and freeing them in the south was often unsafe for them as well. To unite the very different 13 colonies, concessions to make agreeable terms were made, and he did not live unconflicted on this. Please learn more about him, everybody!
Freedom for some, not others. Hmmm ok As a history lover glad you saved this for future generations, important to do so showing the good, bad & downright disgusting. Sad life of the slaves, poor souls, May they rest in peace.
I first went there as a kid in the 1960's and it was sort of run-down and weedy. I prefer that version than this slick one. I remember standing in front of his casket and feeling like I was time travelling. Then we went to Arlington and stood in front of the eternal flame at JFK's grave. That too was very moving. I just could not fathom that he was buried just feet away from me and feeling the loss of one man was so enormous to the nation.
There isnt a shed of doubt in my body that thinks that not one thing in that house was there when Washington lived there. sure if there is its something stupid like a dresser or a couch. but a good 95-98% of the items in the house are replicas.
