Herman's Hermits legendary drummer Barry Whitwam visits Stig Ulrichsen in "Welcome to my World" and talks about his great life with the music.
Herman's Hermits are an English beat rock and pop group formed in 1964 in Manchester, originally called Herman and His Hermits and featuring lead singer Peter Noone. They where produced by Mickie Most, and they charted with number ones in the UK and in America, where they ranked as one of the most successful acts in the Beatles-led British Invasion. They also appeared in four films, two of them vehicles for the band.
Barry talks about his incredible career that spans 5 decades, but lots of unforgettable anecdotes.
In the program you can also see and hear some of their big hits.

I worked with the Original Hermits several times in 1974 and had a great time with them. Barry ( Bean to his friends) was the best drummer I ever worked with, in fact Tommy James told me he would love to have Barry as his drummer. Lek was the best guitar player I've ever been around and became one of my closest friends. Believe it or not they did The Beatles better then The Beatles, man could they play!!!

What do they call Barry,s band. Because herman is back on the road again and the band is called Hermans Hermits?

The band was "Herman's Hermits, not Herman and the Hermits. Noone had a lawsuit in the early 70s and lost because of that. I worked with them back then.

Man with a Cigar was written by Barry Richards who had the house band in the club where I ran the stage. Barry and The Hermits never met until they were also booked into the club. I introduced them and remember Lek saying they could never do the song as well as Barry sang it on the demo.

@@ostjysktv You made me laugh as I worked with them in the 70s and could never understand what Barry was saying either. The Hermits explained to me that Barry grew up in a different area with a different accent.
