Welcome to Mystara: The Hollow World | Dungeons and Dragons 

I think a Hollow World campaign where the spell of preservation was somehow broken very recently could be a whole lot of interesting fun. Or, maybe even a campaign of outsiders to break it themselves.

I remember buying this box and the RC on a economics class field trip to the federal reserve (which was 1 hr of an all day trip) before eating up the rest of the day "seeing money at work" at the nearest mall. Nevermind it was right before Christmas and the teachers got to do their shoping in the middle of a weekday and get paid for it, nothing to do with that at all. A Walden Books had them on clearence, had been looking for Hollow World for some time and since that new RC was there too couldn't pass them up. Spent the bus ride home trying to teach the other kids how to play and might have been the most productive day in middle school I ever had. I got a ton of use out of Hollow World and still do. The Beastmen, Krugel Orcs on lizard Taun-tauns, Yodeling dwarves, dinos everywhere. Best Mystara setting imo.

That restricted spell list (no revolving door of death, no instant travel, etc.) sounds a lot like an enforced in-game swords and sorcery setting magic level. Was Ka as big a fan of REH as clearly he was of Edgar Rice Burroughs?

Also, teenage me is the one who asked the question in Dragon Magazine to Bruce Heard about where the Radiance extends into the Hollow World.

The most unsung thing about the Hollow World boxed set was the amazing and comprehensive design of the Player Character sheet.

The Week without Magic and it's effects on the Hollow World and the rebuttal to it was done by a commenter in either the original video you did, or in the one you titled The Looming Failure of The Hollow World. I recommend anyone who has the time and energy to go through the comments in either of those. Plus, when you really think about it, it's only ONE WEEK. Peoples in colder climates would have reserves.

I ran this setting years ago for my group as a sort of monster of the week hunting thing we had a blast altough we did ignore some of the more annoying rules as well, hollow world has made me fall in love with krugel orcs and retroactively dislike orcs in current settings the boar men are better any day of the week.

Are you planning on doing a hollow world players guide?

The Week of Dread wasn't handled well above ground either. The Savage Coast/Red Curse continuity errors are the result of this, and they forgot the Canolbarth/Ylaruam rain situation...

although I can see how the magic stuff is restrictive, I do see the benufit of preserving a certain atmosphere of timelessness that otherwise might make the whole premise feel shaky. of course there is probably other ways to facilitate it, but this is one. otherwise why wouldnt you have your neandrithals fighting with flintlocks on horses apache style (and no longer really being cavemen, granted the idea is cool), or why the few more advanced civilizations haven’t overwhelmed the others. its to preserve a statis that the Pc are the factor to shake things up.
