I just got an idea of basically Orking together a Void ship from all the spell jammers that enter Mystara space and promptly has the crew die to void. Just take the smallest voidship you can make out there and just harvest the mass of spelljammers clumping together and start stapping them to your void ship to expand it. It totally wouldn't work without fresh spells, but by the Immortals if it isn't an amusing premise.
I believe I said a while back in your paths to immortality video, that if you're going the magic route and need to be the most powerful within a certain radius... well, asteroids probably make great spots for wizards towers. Also, had a thought the other day, related to the "stuff working different here" rules. Back in the Knights of Ebony video you had a bunch of adventure hooks about outsiders coming to Mystara and the trouble involved in either getting them to fit in or go away. What about the other way? There are travelers outside of Mystara to Sigil and the like, but have they ever been needing rescue? Maybe a certain elven-deity-that-should-not-be-stated-as-good-aligned decided that any elves or fey from Mystra are his by right. Or perhaps a traveling wizard gets eaten by mind flayers, who now know how to get in without getting freeze dried. Would the Knights have some kind of hostage rescue teams? Or just "travel at your own risk?"
You'd think it would be able to out-Eberron Eberron, but there's even a bigger sense of medieval stasis than in most other places... Like, half the civilizations wouldn't exist when you think that just about anyone could toss around fireballs without warning... Slave states don't work well when sorcerers, warlocks, druids, or clerics exist...
Mystara also is rebuilding from the lost of Nithia more than Blackmoor. With the climate finally settling down, they've only be able to rebuilt since around 1500BC
I am imagining the magical economy required to create a voidship would resemble Khorvaire in Eberron. Would Mystara get better if a little Eberron leaks in? (No doubt Eberron would get better if a little Mystara got in, right?)
"Use one as a dungeon..." Why a dungeon? I say go the Metamorphosis Alpha route and set your entire campaign on a Voidship, only revealing as much in the High Levels...or when they try cutting through the outer walls to try and solve what the big mystery is...
That's not a good idea. And by not a good idea. I mean if you reveled that as a twist late in the campaign. I would quite your campaign immediately. As would the majority of people I have played with. If you want to do something lime that you need to make sure your players are on board. This isn't something that you can be secretive about.
Interesting. Spelljammer has alway held an apple to me, at least as far as the ability to visit-other-settings thing goes, and I’m happy to have even more info to make the giant crossover campaign I wish to someday rub feasible. I’ll also definitely be using voidships as the Spence-faring vessels of choice for the Pathfinder and Starfinder and Earth components of that game.
It may be better to be in considerable debt than to be sitting on all the coins you've been collecting since 1st level and attracting dragons and other murderous thieves. Besides unspent treasure just slows down the economy and promotes recession.
