I went to Job Corp 30 years ago. I was a new immigrant and I was a nervous wreck!😊 At completion I got a check in the mail and decided to enroll in my local community college. I have a Masters degree and ran my own business for 15 years. Job Corp provided me with a great start. I’m grateful for the opportunity and the adults who invested in me during that time.
I am a retired Union Carpenter instructor from Ouachita Job Corps (Ouachita, a Caddo Indian word for River, French spelling (first European explorers in the 1690s)) Located just west of the resort city of Hot Springs Arkansas. It was shut down in October of 2017, and so I retired. I really miss my students, watching them grow, learning and life, getting their high school diploma or GED, drivers license and a training for a good job & career. Admin & paperwork, I’m to be away from. I enjoyed my 16 years at Job Corps. You young people, please take it seriously and build yourself a good & rewarding life! You deserve it because I say so. And don’t give me that look, (I’ll laugh at you.)
I went to Glenmont Job corps in Albany NY from 91 to 94 things were a little different but all in all it was a good experience for me being so young we often take a lot for granted and don't have enough life experience so like this gentleman stated take it seriously and know you can make a difference in your life and meet some good friends and have a good experience, just stay away from the people that may not realize the opportunity they are given and are negative and drag you down... being cool is not more important than being empowered... peace P.S. I got my GED and took culinary arts.
I really wish i had a chance to do this after i got my diploma . This benefits our youth by giving them a chance to utilize, strengthen their skills, and potential. Giving them a safe place to further improve a growth mindset. So many exciting opportunity’s to look forward to while living an experiencing a college-like environment. ❤
Hello. Some training areas do have specific uniforms and PPE (personal protective equipment) students are required to wear while in their training areas. Quick question right now I'm in Phoenix job corps and about 80% done in my trade after I'm done with this JC can i still go to the JC in san Diego they said i can go after my trade is over but since all the staff left to do that with me I don't know what to do 😟
Hi there! If you’re interested in changing campuses, please reach out to your center directly (specifically your center director or career counselor). Since every situation is unique, they’ll be your best source of information for you. If you're interested in advanced training, Here’s what you need to do beforehand: - Complete Job Corps basic training - Obtain a recommendation from a Job Corps instructor - Meet certain math and reading requirements - Be at least 17 years old, have a positive attendance and progress record, have a high school diploma or the equivalent, and have health clearance from the Job Corps center where you received basic training If you have any additional questions, please reach out to your campus for more information.
They are not there to help you succeed. They're just taking our tax payers dollars. You were never trained by an actual licensed instructor. These people are not certified to train anyone
I went to Harper ferry job corps in 86 I learned how to weld under a instructor named caton I forgot his first name but I retired as a welder because of him

However, some campuses offer non-residential options where students can commute to campus each day for their hands-on training and classes, but do not live on campus.
