@@jay-ov6vh in aviation there's a term "task saturation" for when a pilot is managing so many different systems at once that he becomes overwhelmed and gets "tunnel vision" on one thing, is unable to think straight, and can't manage flying the plane anymore. i believe being in the streets gives people a form of task saturation. there is so much bullshit constantly happening, so many people and things competing for your attention, and you are constantly living in a survival mindset, you never get enough peace, calm, or mental rest to actually focus or stay locked in on one thing. and then, things seem to never go your way, as soon as you start making positive moves, bad things start happening, you try to keep focusing on the right path and the chaos gets worse. when you live in a high-stress state of being where you can never fully relax or feel safe, you operate in a "tunnel vision" mode...that's just how people work...then add to that the environment itself is like quicksand. that's why getting out is the best possible thing to do, not just to get away from the violence, but so you can have the level of basic peace and security that will allow you to get out of survival mode and operate at 100%.

You totally right, I'm not from Chicago but when I was in the streets I used to have a sore neck from looking around because people were after me. You become used to it but definitely not worth it, the paranoia takes it's toll on you.
