I agree 100% if you never owned a Foxbody or never drove one you just don't understand the addiction. The sound, handling and smells just take you back. There's really nothing like that raw power with no assistance like the new cars with traction control. You make a good point these days there's a lot of vacuum lines drying out getting hard then leaking and sensors going bad. It's crazy sometimes trying to track down issues these cars are having. That's why I want to thank you for all your videos they have come in very handy especially with vacuum leaks and idle surging issues. Another great video thank you.

I daily drive a fox from 92-98. In 98 i got tired of sinking all my money into it and sold it. Time went on , i got married and had a few then but sold them. I had a new edge for a bit then a 2008 GT that i got rid of after my divorce. During Covid lock down i picked up an 86 GT that i have 1000s into now. I try to drive as much as i can . Definitely feel like a fish out of water amongst all the cookie cutter Hondas Toyotas and Teslas. But like you said there is nothing like the sound and smell of a fox . Just brings me back to my younger days . I won’t sell it.

I’ve never had a car that caused me to sling tools across the garage and have me threatening to sell it but then put a smile on my face after I figured it out until I bought a foxbody. I’ll never forget taking my new foxbody to church on a Wednesday night the day after I bought it and being embarrassed at the surging and bucking and stumbling upon the first TPS sensor video and fixing my issue with a 6 dollar voltmeter from harbor freight. BREW2l saved my love for the fox

Oh we all know that level of frustration owning these beloved pains in the ass. Within the last month or so I've had to replace the power steering rack, heater core, evaporator and the rest of the A/C (except for the compressor). As much as I get pissed off and my neighbors certainly hear my colorful language...I remind myself that I should never have sold my 86 T Top GT with a 5.8 in the mid 90's. I wish I still had it and as of about a year ago got back in a fox but this one is a vert, considering I live in Florida now and that adds to the LMR and NPD orders. My wife can't understand why I would rather sweat and bust my ass instead of having a newer mustang until she sees the joy on my face driving it. Even though it is a project that I daily drive and I do enjoy the conversations it brings.

I can go cruise with the top down, banging gears and have a blast. Even though I’m not moving very fast lol. But it feels fast. It’s so hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it. If I were to sell it and desire to get another older muscle car it’s going to cost me 2 to 3 times more money. To find one as clean and nice as my Fox. So I stick with her and be content.

I can respect it bud. I have a really nice almost stock first gen Miata m edition. Leather seats, 5 speed manual, drop top. California car with no rust, and hasn't been trashed with teenager mods like every other NA Miata. I get these same feelings when I roll out into the road. Fast throttle response (cable body!!), Rear wheel drive, 4 cylinder engine actually has a nice sounding growl and isn't buzzy or lame like modern ones, grips hard in the corners..... I can't sell it. How do you reproduce that experience in a new car? You cant

If I had to argue foxes still ruled the streets all the way thru the SN and New edge era up until 03 with the terminator release. If the internet has taught me anything, it's that we love whatever we thought made us cool during the formulative years. I listen to 1980's music videos and the comments are "yeah, best thing ever! today's music sucks!". Except every decade claims the same thing--even when the songs are remakes of "old crap". and "Johnny Be Good" will always rock :) So it's no surprise today's kids love the LS design--they had it for 23 years. And it's a good design. What struck me at age 17 was the GT40 era--it was like when my father experienced the 1955 Chevy having a Power Pack option that meant the dealership could hot rod your car for you and you knew it had engineering behind it since they would warantee it. After the Malaise Era, I stood at Berlin Turnpike in Ct (where we put the rust in "rustic") on Friday and Saturday nights and the ads were actually correct--the boss was back, "supercars" (because "muscle car" was an 80's term, the magazines of the muscle car era actually called muscle cars "super cars") were back again baby, affordable 14 second cars existed again. But the new generation have their own historical moment...i mean, a 9 second car from the factory? drop the mic, pal.

I was always a fan in the 80's and early 90's, with the small trunk vs the hatchback. I like all types of cars!

I got mine fairly recently, like late 2021, and I must say, the fox occupies a certain sweet spot like many 80s-90s cars do. They're new enough to offer all the standard creature comforts you'd expect on any car; things like cruise control, a/c, motorized windows, and a reliable efi system. Yet, they're also old enough that everything is still quite simple and the average person could easily learn to fix themselves. Combined with the insane aftermarket and vast knowledge base, virtually everything on a fox can be replaced or repaired with relative ease. These qualities make a fox easy to live with imo and frankly a well sorted one can make a fine daily. Not to mention, they're friggin light, v8, manual, and of course rwd. And if you care about running errands with one like me, you can even get a hatchback! These kinds of cars just aren't made anymore, and probably never will be made again. As long as that holds true, the foxbody (along with many other great cars of the era) will always be desired. The cost of being able to own and drive one is always gonna be worth it to someone, simply because there's nothing else you can get that provides the same experience.

Exactly everything you said. These were reliable good gas mileage EFI modern cars...I dunno WTF people expect nowadays? An electric with all the gadgets? Then again my first car was a Cordoba, 318 2bbl carb, you wanna talk unreliable those old carbed 60s and 70s cars were a nightmare comparatively.

That goes for the 1st time I turned the key over 3 decades ago till today! I was hooked from day one! ~ If you know you know! This mom is so grateful I that don't have have to go purchase one, I only have to walk across my driveway and there's my sweet sexy 89 1⁄2 5.0 5 speed notch which I purchased new! "F" all of those people teasing me because I never let go of it, and refused to trade it in on any of my Explorers over the years! Those fools! I agree with everything said in this video but in my personal opinion a Coyote will never sound as good as a cammed Fox, I also think you should make a video talking about how Fox’s don’t need to make big power to be fast, I’ve seen Fox’s with gears, a couple bolt ons and some drag radials run 12.90’s with a good driver. People always rag on them because they don’t make power.

that's the cool thing for me...if you know you're way around, the Fox can be hot rodded with OEM parts. Thunderbird lower front control arms, GT40P heads, etc. and the fact so many kids crash these cars, tell you even a 14 second car is too fast for the average driver trained by a high school football coach how to drive--it's all the computer nanny stuff like ABS and traction control that's keeping them shiny side up in the newer "faster" cars.

I live 30 minutes from the first HQ of the defunct Mustangs Unlimited...they'd have one or two shows a summer, and listening to Fox owners discuss what works with what and what doesn't play well with others was great. and i remember the days of magazines (I cleared out MU when they ended :) ) since Super Ford and Mustangs Illustrated and all the rest. Having those old tech articles is great--not everything's on the internet and if you don't know a mod exists, how would you ever look for it.

Man I love these types of videos from you Brew2l. My fox has been in my garage registered as non-op since like 2018.. I'm struggling to get it going simply because of that fact that you mentioned where all the Ford oem sensors are going out and the cost to build up my stock 302 is very similar in cost to getting something newer.. thanks for all your videos it's helping me learn but more importantly it's helping me figure out what I want to do with my fox so that I don't spend unnecessary money. Pretty excited for the poopcoupe series!
@larrylaverne9547

Don't buy that line that it costs the same or similar to go Coyote. Do the research. Stroke a 302? Couple to a few grand at most. My 347 cost about 3 grand to do and didn't require any crazy modifications. That's a block, machining, stroker kit, and parts. A new engine. I did the R&R myself, with the wifes help. What does a used Coyote cost? Can you R&R that yourself, along with all of the modification required to get it to work? Maybe, but do the research first!
@BREW2LFOXBODY
@BREW2LFOXBODY 9 месяцев назад
@larrylaverne9547 yes it’s actually very comparable if you’re building a stock 302 from scratch to match the performance of a stock drop in coyote. Stroker kit,machine work,heads,cam,intake,injectors,throttle body,headers….. the list goes on.
@_moes_garage_
@_moes_garage_ 9 месяцев назад
@@larrylaverne9547 I agree, research definitely comes first but honestly, I do buy the line. I'm currently building my wife's xterra to be a budget offroad machine. And even though I'm trying to be budget, I'm getting close to the cost of just buying a newerish Toyota 4runner. Not the same car, I know. But the concept is the same and it's also important to consider that foxbody parts are going up in price whereas new coyote motors are relatively inexpensive considering they're recently mass produced and are very much supported by the aftermarket.
@larrylaverne9547
@larrylaverne9547 9 месяцев назад
@@_moes_garage_ Actually, WITHOUT accounting for inflation (corporate greed), the cost is going down. I got a screaming deal on my 347 stroker kit (Scat) at $900 several years ago. I should have paid closer to $1,300. Scat has the kit for $1,200 on their site right now. Machining is minimal, and even though I had the shop rebuild my heads and some other work, all of that cost me less than $1,000. I MIGHT have put another grand in upgraded parts (injectors, MAF) to support the new engine. I even had TMoss port my lower for $500 or so. According to LMR, a Coyote swap will run you FROM $10K to $40K. You'll get from 360HP to 395HP depending upon generation. Can you afford a used 2018 Coyote engine to get that 395HP? I found 1 Coyote for sale around here, with 60K miles on it (hardly new), for $6K. Want performance upgrades? Gonna cost you more. A lot more.

Being Born in the late 80s, the Foxbody along with the IROC-Z and Corvettes & Grand Nationals were the highlight of my childhood in the 90s, so I guess I'm in that middle ground where I got the tail end of ol school hotrods and the new tech of today. (30s now) I own both a 5.0 S197 & a Foxbody and I will 100% confirm its a different experience when dealing with a foxbody, when it comes to cruising around and hotroddin it up, I rather drive something that you don't see every day, anyone can go and buy a newer car, and have all the new features and comfort but to take something old and build it back up and make it your own is its own reward. I rather drive a machine vs a comfy mobile living room.

@@jamesgeorge4874 well, i'm up north, so I just assumed it was all over, like "claimer classes". For someone wanting to go all-out on a notch mustang (coyote swap et al) I would suggest buying one of these ex race cars instead--they tend to be reasonably priced up here and already have a roll cage. of course they're going to need stuff to be streetable, but once you consider how many parts you're going to buy (new sensors, whatever drivetrain parts for a coyote swap, leather interior, maybe some widebody fender or something) it makes more sense to start with something stripped than a $30K complete car and then replace half of what you paid for anyway.
