In the video, it is being recommended to do the daily shallow water in the summer when the roots are not as deep. During other times of the year, you would use the watering method that would allow for longer time of watering to help the deeper roots.
If you are experiencing heavy drought then we would recommend watering the lawn with a hose or sprinkler. It is very important the lawn receives enough water. You can learn more about how to take care of your lawn in a drought at the following link scotts.io/6050yMiyk
It’s obvious this guy has never lived in the west or southwest! It would be more helpful if he broke his greenhouse advice into real world regions! Let the rain do it??? Have you looked at the rainfall in Arizona , California etc? Pretty useless video except for the early morning watering advice
I'm wanting green grass in the summer, not beige or brown. Plus we are majorly sand/clay so watering is required for longer periods daily. Unfortunately, this video does not meet my lawns needs.
None of this applies to El Paso TX desert. There is no rain and temps are triple digits the entire month of June and half of July. Night temps are still high. Fall, Temps are still in 90s/80s. Rain doesn't come until Jan/Feb. By then grass is long dead. Any advice on maintaining desert lawns? Watering once a day and my Scott's Bermuda grass is still dying.
Hi, Erica. Temperatures like that can definitely have an effect on grass. Bermuda grass is one of the better drought-tolerant grasses. Could you please respond and let us know if you have a clay or sandy type of soil?
Erica, thank you for the response. Sandy soils do not hold moisture so it is important to water more frequently. You should water every other day during the summer drought. You need to water to a depth of 6 to 8 inches. You can accomplish this by applying 1 to 2 inches of water. We would recommend considering adding organic matter to improve moisture and nutrient retention. Keep in mind that you should never water the lawn at night because this opens up the lawn to disease. The lawn should have enough time to dry before nighttime. You can learn more helpful tips on watering at the following link scotts.io/6055yM0Wt
