This is Dev's first-time reaction to Welcome to the Machine, a very unique Pink Floyd song from Wish You Were Here (1975). We also check out a cover version by Shadows Fall. Turn on 5.1 Surround in Settings for the best experience. (If your app/device/sound system does not support surround sound, the volume may seem low.)
Our reaction with the original stereo mix - • Welcome to the Machine...
This is Dev's first time listening to this album. Mike hasn't heard it in a LONG time. We are re-experiencing classic rock music, an album at a time, with fresh perspectives and active ears, so that Dev can learn and appreciate this music more, and so that Mike can relive his childhood.

The absolute mastery of Rick Wright who was so under appreciated in so many PF songs - so much an intrinsic part of the sound as a harmonising vocalist too! He and David just fit together beautifully.

Great reaction guys! It doesn't matter how many times I hear this song, I get chills up my neck hearing that heavy synth drone & melody! This, for me, is one of THE ultimate 'head-space' songs, especially through headphones, or a really good stereo system!! I've long enjoyed blasting this, from an original pressing vinyl, over my system, sitting in the centre of the room with 4 speaker stereo bombarding me from all corners! (and 'maybe' under some herbal enhancement...maybe...) A friend of mine and I saw Brit Floyd perform this song live, and it was a trip. I had said - if you weren't stoned before, you are now!! The sound was incredible (and the mixing moreso)

Yeah, it is spectacular in surround sound on my Bose Headphones BUT nothing like seeing THEIR 5 channel audio PA system when I saw them (2nd of 4 times) in 1977 in the old Boston Garden, they opened with all of Animals (David Gilmour was the star of that set) then came back for all of Wish You Were Here. Rick Wright was incredible in setting the mood and his incredible textures, once they got to Welcome to the Machine he really took over, with synth sounds ping ponging all over the arena, we were blown away, they were just amazing. Best sound system whenever I saw them or Gilmour (twice) or Waters (4 times) solo. Mason was awesome on his tour as well. They just don't make normal music and are immortal for what they did. Can't wait for side 2, Have a Cigar is part 2 of their look at the music industry, brilliant song writing. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎷🎶

Guess you guys need some Steven Wilson / Porcupine Tree. Mind you the latest Steven Wilson solo project has some excellent synth work. You could also jump into Pircupine Tree live at Tilburg with ANAETHETIZE

Oooh, I love ScarJo. Sorry about the Tech Bros hijacking your voice in the service of World Domination.

I always envisioned someone starting their morning rat race entering a high speed mass transit system. As at end the door opens and you hear the bustle of the depot. Left a comment on the stereo version before coming to the surround sound. It was about the recordings in quadraphonic. But I did not know they remastered one in surround. Which is typically how I listen at home now. Although on music that isn't formatted in surround sound my unit can synthesize. But if not allowed it sounds like crap. Have to say it's much nicer hearing what the sound engineers intended over "my" machine. Thanks for the link. I like to remember, never too old to learn. 👍😁 🤠🏞️🐂

I hear ya. I really enjoy 5.1 mixes when they do it right. (I have heard some bad ones, like Rush.) On Dark Side of the Moon, I used 5.1 as well, but also the quadraphonic when I thought it sounded better. 😁
