Was in this business for more than 30 years. Setup, ran and repaired Hartford, Waterbury Farrel Hi Pro, Nakashimada, Asahi Okuma and Carlo Salvi cold headers. The shop also had Hartford and Waterbury Farrel thread rollers. Lots of smoke, noise and grease/oil...can't tell you how much I miss it!
Great video. Nice song choice. We got a national machine aswell, along with a Malmedie, Hatebur and Hyodong for 38mm dia cut off. Amazing machines. I've been working on cold forging machines for years, but they still seem amazing to me. It's around 42 rpm i guess. My boss wouldn't be impressed with that lol.
Thirty years ago I worked at Ford Motor Company where we had 68 bolt makers from National. Bolt making was considered a semi-skilled job and was a valuable operation. When other countries outside the United States started making cheaper bolts it was the end of U.S. production. The quality of the bolts and the steel were not as good but the money for labor was the end.
Can you tell how length and knockout adjustments can be done in the machine with an example please? It's very urgent buddy it will be great if you can help 😊
That is a lot of machines! We only have about 20 machines, but a few of them are BIG! (1.500 cutoff diameter). We make specialty coldformed product (pipe plugs, fasteners & tubular product) for automotive and industrial customers. Bolt making & coldforming is a highly commoditized market. If you aren't making anything special, then you better be making it cheap because you won't survive any other way. That's why I'm not surprised that the big 3 auto producers moved away from coldforming their own product. Union shops are notorious for making product for more expensive than what they should be while having the same or lower quality to non-union shops.
@Austin Washburn..... Since you have 20 Bolt makers.i would love to know if you want to sell out any. I am into manufacturing myself and I do import machines. Do let me know if we can work it out.
Wire drawing; wire cutting into shank; shanking cold heading in four successive does to produce bolt head; chamfering of bolt end opposite to head by chamfering tool; thread making of bolt bolt shank between two horinztonal thread producing, dies, one stationary, the other reciprocating horizontally...
The most awful part of National Boltmakers is thread rolling station. It is can’t work stable. If you don’t have threading machine you will have troubles.
