How do we decarbonise our industries, a key ambition if we're to meet Net Zero? Hydrogen and carbon capture and storage both have a role to play and in the Humber, a consortium of energy and industrial companies are working with academics to transform the Humber into the UK’s first net zero carbon region by 2040.
Zero Carbon Humber is working to deliver low carbon hydrogen production facilities and essential carbon capture usage and storage (CCUS), together with region-wide infrastructure that will enable large-scale decarbonisation across the country’s most carbon intensive region.
Delivering this is expected to protect 55,000 existing jobs in the Humber and create 49,000 new ones, while supporting skills, apprenticeships and educational opportunities across the region.
