"I have always underestimated you" is the absolutely highest praise a teacher can give to a student. It means that at every step of her training, Fern has exceeded Frieren's expectations, learning things faster and better than Frieren thought she would be able to at that time.

frieren at the end just blasting fern, lowkey crushing her, without arms or incantations, just magical will. Probably some sort of magic art that transformed her thoughts into phenomena. EDIT I also love that the frieren the slayer ost played during that scene

"The height of magic" actually has parallels with ubel's magic. As long as ubel 'thinks' or "visualizes" she can cut something, not matter what other people say ,whether its infused with mana so its stronger etc., ubel can still cut it. This ties back in to Frieren and Fern fight at the end, Frieren was just able to visualize fern getting pushed back and getting crushed, fern wasn't able to do anything to defend against it since frieren just outright visualizes it. Good thing the original frieren was there else fern was a goner from the start. This was also not the only time frieren did this in this season, alot of people believed that the barrier in the first exam was "unbreakable", but frieren said "nah, i think i can break it", and sure enough she was able to break it. This anime is so good with world building and story, while also having god tier animation, if this isn't anime of Year I'm gonna throw hands like denken without mana 😂

Yeah, the point made about Ubel's signature spell is not that she can cut anything (though potentially she can). It was that stuff that's natural to cut like cloth and hair is weak against her spell regardless of how magically enhanced they are because she expects to be able to cut stuff like that, whereas Wirbel could block the same spell with his magic barriers because she expects magic shields to not be easily cut. If the proctor with the magic cloak used a force field instead and Sense's clone used normal defensive magic instead of her hair, then Ubel would've been screwed.

That menacing Frieren stare definitely came from her "Slayer" days LOL

Bro, that clone imitates Frieren’s thought process and she said it had been 80 years since she had to use that. Assuming it was against the Demon King, in what shape had him her at to make her use that broken overpowered spell that casts no magic? And that Frieren was ANGERY she knew she was gonna die but wanted to hurt Fern if not out right kill her. The dark side of Frieren maybe? Average person seeing Frieren fight would think the world is ending XD

While Ubel can certainly cut through people (during her introduction, the bandits Kraft mentioned he buried were cut to pieces), she didn't really imagine cutting Burg in half. She only imagined cutting the cloak. Burg was just stupidly overconfident to wear it for his exam.

I mean, They're all want to be first class mage and in this exam they're be able to cooperate with each others too. If they can choose to fight with so many people and if they're still can't beat only one first class mage with all that then how can they worthy enough to become and call themself a first class mage🤔?? They should atleast be able to fight or survive againts others first class mage in order to become one of them.

So Sense knew from the very beginning that Ubel could easily defeat her Clone. It makes her entering the dungeon to provide an additional challenge for the examinees much fairer than it might initially have appeared. Yes it is a difficult and dangerous challenge, but the solution was already available. The examinees just have to find it.

The animation this episode though omg also everything new we learn about Übel just makes me like her as a character more. She's so interesting. Lmao at the dude who went in alone being carried out at the end there 😂

First of all, I don't understand English, so I'm sorry if my English is a little weird. I love Mr.Fresh's reaction. You always have a lot of respect for the anime that you upload videos of. I thought it might be a little difficult to pronounce, so I'll write down the characters' pronunciations that are similar to English. Even with English subtitles, it's still in German. Sense is Zenze. Übel is Yubel (pronounced like elongating the "u" in "Yu". After that, the "bel" remains as is.). It seemed like the best drawing ever. I have to thank everyone involved in this anime.

Frieren using The Force!

I really love that they explained why Frieren keeps "falling" for mimicks instead of just saying that it's a quirk of hers. It's far more interesting that she's well aware of the overwhelming possiblity that the chests she opens are mimicks but cannot fight her insatiable greed for grimoires. It explains way back to the first episode when Himmel and the others were reminiscing of their adventures and in the flashback where they first showed Frieren stuck in a mimick, they were contemplating leaving her there. It makes sense now lol.

I don't know if you saw it or not but that one spell that the clone Frieren used on fern was last used 80 years ago when she was also cornered. The same time that she fought the demon king.

This episode was absolutely insane, I feel like we still haven’t seen all of Frieren skills but even with what was showcased it was absolutely terrifying. Ubel might also be broken af, this was peak 😭🔥

When you said you "put him back together" You might be right. Ubel's sister showed her cutting things she had to have showed her how to stitch things together since Ubel Nee-san loved sewing. Ubel probably just hates doing it's much easier to imagine things getting cut.

I believe the magic that the Dark Frieren used without any arms against Fern is very special to Elves which something that cannot be explained entirely. Pretty much like the concept of flying as how Frieren explains it in Episode 14. Also the fact that Frieren mentioned that it was something she hasn't used for quite sometime in 80 years (which was the battle against the Demon King).

Btw ubel stated herself she cant believe to cut magical barriers, thats why wirbel was able to block her attacks

18:40 if you look at how Methode was looking down towards Fern's Clone, it either means Clone Fern was preparing some attack that we don't know off or Methode Low Diffed Fern's Clone because Methode is unharmed and spotless.

So my theory is the spell that frieren casted on fern at around 18:00 was the same logic and spell ubel use (her cut magic) fern said she doesn't sense any mana to the attack and can hardly call it a magic spell, so it may be a physical attack in a form of a spell, strengthened by the caster's visual imagination. That's why clone frieren subdued fern so easily, because frieren says that she underestimates fern, and ubel defeated sense and the cloak guy easily, because for her cutting hair and a cloak is easy

"Because I underestimate you." "I" means the replica, and because of that, the demon can only observe the suppressed mana from Fern.

Ubel's ability to cut through that guy's cloak reminded me of something from Undead Unluck. Her situation with magic is just like Victor's reflexes. Every person has a reflex of self preservation when hitting something so that they don't break their fist. It is only logical. But Victor doesn't have that reflex because after billions of years of living, he has become accustomed to the fact that he'll just regenerate. Similarly, even though Ubel knew that cloak was impenetrable, she managed to visualize being able to cut it. That's why Sense believed she doesn't think like a human. Something as illogical as that is not something a human mind can achieve.

Seriously this was the fucking best episode, Batshit insane!! The animation, I can't even comprehend how the animators make stuff like this! Lovely episode!

I take Frieren's underestimate comment to be her first overt acknowledgement of the parent/child relationship she's developed with Fern. I think Fern did too - I mean, did you see her overjoyed smile when she said it?

Clone frieren looked like it was using the black version of zoltraak that Qual used, human killing magic as opposed to the white version that is specialized for killing demons. (Also pats for the kitty.)

Frieren is capable of using magic that do not require her to wield a staff. She just doesn't in her daily life, probably because of Flamme's influence. Flamme asked her to live a low-key life.

The animation had me BRICKED up like crazy 🙂
