Wow now this is brave!! It’s much more like the cruisers my Dad’s Cousin and his dad (my Grandad’s brother,) used to sail around Burnham On Crouch in England 🏴 UK. This is a bit more relatable to me , though we never really did any proper ocean going sailing. It was always extremely cool though and a great treat. (RIP Uncle Peter, RIP Uncle John. )
Sad about Josefin hope she is ok now. Beautiful video and by far best season so far!!! You look so relaxed Bob and Taylor is the best mate for your adventures. Go on guys, keep the best work coming!!!!
Great stuff Bobby! The ease with which new people come aboard and, within minutes (it seems) fit right in and become comfortable is a testament to just what nice people you, and Taylor, are. Well done!
Driving in DR is frickin' crazy! Gives a whole new meaning to the word "wedgie". You literally wedge yourself into any available space in between the other vehicles on the roadway. Amazingly, no one gets pissed and no there's beef. Very laid back where driving is concerned.
Not only don’t drink the water in DR, but also watch out for things like salads washed in local water. That one got me a few years back in Puerto Plata. Some of the best beaches in the world in DR. My wife of 31 years is from there. Beautiful people.
I couldn't make it without a pit onboard! Nothing like good cold beer with BBQ or some wine and grilled fish lobster caimari or crab! Be nice to have small countertop auqaponics garden for fresh leafy greens green onion and herbs. Great scenery and Happy travels!
Y That's a starter solenoid, made for short bursts. It'll probably burn out fairly quick. You need a continuous duty solenoid, like the one you're replacing. It'll last so much longer.
We went there on a cruise a couple of years ago and everyone in the group who drank the water was sick for days. Those of us who stuck to bottled adult beverages didn't have any problems.
It's amazing that the Windlass worked at all. You must have had a massive Voltage Drop at the Solenoid with that much rust. I hope you re-terminated the ends of the cables with new lugs as well.. Great Video.
@@Sailingdoodles All connections must be super clean and tight . Protect with Vaseline. Remember, Voltage and Current are inversely Proportional. So, if Volts down, Amps up to compensate = Burnt out equipment.
Ha! That's just an old ford style starter relay. My CJ jeep uses the same one. In fact. My old Warn 8274 winch uses 4 of the same relays. Those relays are so ubiquitous.
Taylor never gets seasick...so when she paused after saying " as it turns out..." My heart stopped. I thought she was gonna say... " I'm preg..." Turns out it was just the water! Hahaha..My bad! .This is what isolation does to people back here in Calgary. We are in desperate need for anything exciting. Bobby you should make more prank videos bro! The catfight was a good one 😁
I can speak from experience about the water in the Dominican being sketchy to drink. I think a water maker is the way forward. As soon is this lock down is over, we're going to pick up one of the Rainman water makers, which I'm sure I thought I saw you guys use in the past?
An entertaining and lively episode, well edited. A nice marina in Samana there. But really, that was so much background - with Taylor in the view. What stunning beauty! With that lovely accent, smile and articulateness. Just jaw dropping: 13:16. 14:15. 14:44. And her new channel reflects her charisma.
Bobby, try using a solenoid made for a snow plow pump. The ones for a starter are for more instantaneous power, whereas the plow rated unit holds up to continuous duty.
Interesting dynamics with the new folks. I know they have been and gone by now will be interested to see how they fit in. You guys are great hosts but having looked at their channel they opposite end of spectrum. Great vid quality and editing is sweet.
Bobby you needed a continuous duty solenoid not a regular solenoid. Continuous duty the power flow is more constant. Your new one may crap out in time. Enjoying the videos as always!!
If the water has some organic matter in it, extra chlorine is required to provide free chlorine for disinfection effectiveness. I add and mix until there is an mild but obvious odor of chlorine at the faucet after each fill up. Then add a bit extra every week or so to keep thing from growing in the tank and lines.
A much better solution and then you have water at the faucet that is as good as bottle water you buy at the store. www.gonewiththewynns.com/product/water-purification
You don’t need a stern thruster you just need to practice using the prop walk to your advantage. I had a Hans Christian 13 ton full keel and I could turn her around in her own length plus two meters. I recommend taking her out into a small channel with marks to gauge yourself and practicing spinning the boat. Then practice backing. The trick with backing is to just realize you steer with prop walk until you get stern way. In other words you can only turn one direction until you get way on. Just do it all slowly and you’ll get the feel for it. I also had a slip most of the eight years I had the boat with a crosswind in the SF Bay currents. It can be done. I did spend three days three hours each day just practicing maneuvering in tight quarters when I first got the boat. There were times I would come into a marina and playing the wind and current bystanders swore I had a bow thruster I didn’t have.
Yeah this is a 31 ton boat... it doesn’t prop walk in reverse. I have tried. The beneteau 50 I sailed for a year would prop walk like a champ. This boat will not
For brief moment, I thought you were doing limerick there with "Taylor the sailor." Sounded like you were going to end it with something rhyming with "sick."
Chlorine only kills critters, and it can take 4 hours to do that. If there are contaminants in the water, chlorine can't neutralize or remove them. A big charcoal filter might.
Bobby you know all of the knows by far. The engineering on that boat looks like a perfection of thought. And beautiful carpentry all over. Getting ideas on how to do my boat. If I can trade the stocks well..........then the well won't be too deep for clean water.
