I welded diesel transfer tanks with some diesel in them many times, like a gallon or 2 and not where I was welding. I never did anything to the diesel tanks but its a good idea to air them out or fill with inert gas. At my current job, they air out trailers to bring them in the shop for repairs and depending on the type of trailer, they keep the air moving with a smaller fan.

I've tried to weld & braze motorcycle tanks before but they tend to be too thin especially when they are rusted. I have repaired a quite of few diesel transfer tanks for in the back of pickups. This grader has the same engine as an Allis-Chalmers D17, 226ci 👍 I dont have alot of experience with the oil bath air filtration but they seem like alot of maintenance. I do know air inlet location and precleaner design on dry elements makes a huge difference. Terragator 9203 had a system around 2009 that had an amazing intake location + precleaner design. The filter would hardly ever get dirty. It pulled the air in just infront of the radiator and the precleaner was similar to a dyson vacuum. The earlier 9203 had a stack inlet by the cab and not much of a precleaner, the filters were pretty much plugged daily. Good day Don, thanks 👍
