Out of all the welding procedures I've done, gasless flux is really underrated and gets a bad rep but with the right settings and polarity it runs like a champ. It does take time to get used to, I will say but once you get it dialed it's an amazing procedure to run and it's good when you want to weld projects revolving thin gauge metal like square tubing and despite the rumors it's pentrates metals ranging up from Qutar inch and above. Happy got to See Gasless flux being used for once

Yeah it's handy for a job I previously had repairing shipping containers outside otherwise you would chew through the gas having reg wound right up. It does take a bit of getting used to but I liked it.

I bought a little 125amp flux core welder recently just for stuff that doesn't matter too much or to use where i dont have 240v access, and to be honest, if you know whats going on welding wise, it does great. Its different and more "violent" while welding but if you look past that, a puddle is a puddle. I find myself using it quite often when i dont wanna use argon or drag the generator somewhere.

Cheap harbor freight 125 is now my go to around the farm! Lays a nice bead with good penetration and like you said, a good extension cord or a small generator and it's anywhere without a tank to lug around. Highly underrated and over looked. Technology has gotten way better over the last 25-30 years, back then they were kinda crappy and I think that's where the bad reputation came from

Good job there Luke, FCAW takes a bit of practice, you’ve done well. If you continue doing a series of cored wire tutorials, I’d like to see a couple of things demonstrated ie , you do it with a K126 or similar torch/ hand piece. These are used in the field and also suitable for testing purposes. Next I’d like to see you diagnose some common field issues like incorrect polarity, excessive wire speed and it’s relationship to amperage, , too long/ too short stick out, the difference between ESO and CTTWD, mess about with torch angles etc. I realise that you are not doing paid “advertorials” but it looks to me like you are using NR211mp, good product and I’m not being paid to say that. Maybe eve do something with the T8 and pipeline wires..

Thank you for requesting to see all of those topics you mentioned..They are all main points that are vital to getting this process dialed in ... I'm still a student myself and those are all the areas that if you aren't made aware how to do those properly you will continue to struggle so thanks for that keen insight.. Hopefully Luke will be able to transfer that knowledge onto video and upload it to youtube the same way he did this one...

In need of a third tube of 5 litre gas for a small 130 amp MIG welder I bought flux-core instead and reversed the polarity inside the machine (25 year old simple machine). If one is reverting the polarity of an older/simpler machine you might need to reverse the polarity of the wire feeder as well. Mine was simple, but they can be wired differently so make sure before you buy flux-core.

I've done test up to 6g, an not ever used a backing plate. When did useing a backing plate become a test factor? Alway's started this test straight into the bottom of test plate's burning threw the tack, then make the transition while pushing the Weld forward, then point back down to bottom of starting point, then transition wire straight on the root walking back n forth, then at the top, run up am position straight on top of test plate the same as starting point. For me making all these transition's on test plate's, really help's when the test move into pipe Welding Test. Question, is the backing plate for beginners?
