Last year when Squirt had her physical, she told Dr.Burke, "bye bye", And this year she was excited to see her and never told her to leave. I love my avian vet Dr. Burke she's awesome and she makes house calls. Which is amazing because Squirt bird does not do well in the car.

I love my Avian Vet!!! Dr. Stephen Fronefield in Sugar Land TX (just outside of Houston). My oldest bird, a quaker, has been seeing him for 17 years. I have 5 other birds as well and all have received very good care from Dr. Fronefield and the staff at his office.

Yesterday I went to my local parrot shop. There was a 10 year old Red-Fronted Macaw for adoption $1,000 with a big cage. As we were asking about him the owner of the shop called and said they were going to do something with him and he was no longer available. He was fully flighted until he was five, and then they started clipping his wings. Not being able to fly stressed him out so much that he started plucking his feathers. His owners moved to Alaska and couldn't take him. If he was still available you would have another free-flight student.

couldn't have came in a better time ( planning on finding a place to take my budgie, sadly cant find any avian vets that arent 4 hours away ): but luckily have found an exotic vets that work with loads of animals including parrots and even birds of prey! Hoping they are worth it!)

Northern Virginia go to Stahls Exotics! They only see exotics, my favorite avian vet moved on but they have other great ones and my favorite bird vet tech who has conures, her name is Nadja :)

Thanks for the helpful information and advice! I plan to take our budgies for a checkup sometime this spring... but I'm really hoping they will have eased up on covid rules, because most vet clinics were asking you to drop off your pet at the door, and not allowing you inside with them!

Great info. But during COVID, I cannot go in, just hand the birds over to my avian vet. I always ask questions, which is why I justify paying the huge fee ($125 per Conure, $175 for medium size birds). They look down the throat, spread the wings, trim the nails and beak. Bloodwork is extra. To get the tests my rescue wants fecal tests and blood work that would cost me $3,000, which means I cannot adopt. I look at my birds every day. I have had them for 6 years and have never had a sick bird. My avian vet is almost two hours away. Closer is an exotic vet that other people I have talked to with birds but again no access due to covid.

Love these videos, they are SO VERY helpful. Here is a question, do you find the more you are learning, the harder it is to trust or accept a vet? I had the privilege of seeing your 5 part vet series on your Patreon channel. It was and still is the best bird information videos I have ever seen. Wish you could put them on DVD or download and market them. That was right around the time of the fires in Australia, the vet is incredible! If your a fan of birds, see those videos. Finally love all your birds but Tusa is my favorite.

I got my cockatiel at straight 3 month’s old and today is his 9 month old birthday I haven’t seen anything weird in him He’s always playful Eating seed’s (mostly vegetables) he also drink’s water perfectly I Keep toxic food’s and smell’s away from him I don’t think he need’s a vet visit anytime soon.

My avian vet is really well known and her office is 3 miles from my house! They really take an interest in my parrots well being and are non-judgmental. Plus they sell Harrisons pellets at a really reasonable price.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge of birds and what a good veterinary should be doing during an annual examination. We have a great avian veterinarian and she’s wonderful with our Lovebird, Kiwi. We just got a Fancy Conure, Mikko, and it will go for its first examination in a couple weeks.

So wish I knew this prior to a vet visit. I had said whatever she needs because I had no clue and from what I can see they just did wellness check. Which consisted of body and eye check, listened to breathing and felt over her body. Nothing was mentioned about any of test that should have been done especially considering I found her on an outside bird feeder on day. And yes, I told avian this. Unfortunately this is only avain near me. Thank you for all that you do ❤️

I have been so stuck for an avian vet! We brought our scarlet macaw to a vet that can highly recommended to us by our trainer. They handled her so roughly that she was vomiting all the way home from stress (she does not get car sick) and she was so traumatized I haven’t been able to get her near a vet’s office without her screaming. Now with covid restrictions, I can’t go in with her so I don’t know what to do 😢

My Parents did a magic act for years here in Florida and up and down the east . They used Doves and Fantail Pigeons. They never had to have there birds inspected?? They always took great care of them!!!

I go to a holistic vet for my dogs... issues with dogs is normal vets over vaccinate them. For that reason I go to a holistic vet who believes in raw feeding and titer testing. Since changing and going raw my dogs have got so much healthier!

How are red-bellied parrots? My local pet store has one it is 2 months old and he is handfed..what are you thoughts on that breed of parrot..

My daughter got a baby parakeet For her birthday two weeks ago. She’s watching your videos and has been trying to get the bird used to her but it is very skittish and does not wanna come out of his cage. WeAre trying to use millet but it’s never taken even one bite! It is not motivating for the bird at all. This is our first family pet so we hope it will be fun and interactive pet but so far it is not interested in us or the bird treat. Please help us! Love your channel❤️

I recently adopted a neglected blue Quaker parrot named Luna. She had plucked under her wings and on her feet so much that they were bloody when we got her. She doesn’t pluck anymore, but is there anything I should do to help her? She seems like she’s still in pain.

Would you recommend that I take them to a vet right away or wait until I establish a working relationship with the bird? BIRD TRICKS!!!! Please answer I have a jenday conure. I am getting him from a breeder, I go in and visit him quite frequently and he just not weaning as well as all the other birds. He really milking it, and most the other birds are already eating pellets on there own and they are younger then him. I absolutely don’t want to rush his weaning process but he just not picking up as fast!! Is this normal?

I am definitely looking for an avian vet in my area. I live in North Hills of Pittsburgh. My vet will not let me come in with my birds. She examines them and takes them into her office and send them back out with her assistant. It’s not just COVID times. Her assistant said she always does this. I feel very uncomfortable with this. The vet I used to go to would let me come in but he was not a certified avian vet however he did see lots of birds. He did seem really nervous with my bird. Also he used to have a male cockatoo and got a female. He shared that he made a whole room for them but they never came out of the room then. He gave them away as a freezer cup all. Is this reasonable? I did not think so. I have been so uncomfortable with the whole situation what should I do? Jamie - you mentioned on a video that you went to a consult in Pittsburgh. Would you be comfortable asking the people if they have a fat that they like?

I'm still trying to figure out when to take my birds for their first check. I've had them for about 2 months now, was expecting progress to be much faster than it has been, given how it started, but they came from an abusive home, so are really freaked out by everything, but making good progress with me, but I'm worried poking & prodding is going to freak them out completely, even just putting them into a travel cage somehow to get them there & back is going to totally stress them with how they are. Which is more important? vet or getting them comfortable & trusting of me? Anyone have any thoughts? On adoption one would bite & couldn't be touched at all, other would tolerate anything, but sit & rock & pluck from the stress after. Both now communicate with me clearly instead of biting & stressed plucker is now dominate & will bite if her communication's not respected. Both will target in & around their cage, both will step up if hand is placed at the end of the perch so they can just shimmy across, but won't go beyond this & freak out if I try to move my hand while theyr'e on it (plucker's cute, she'll squark at me while biting my hand for me having dared move it lol but takes days to get her to step up with both feet again after it) & neither will tolerate any sort of touching from my hand, plucker will enjoy my nose near her, other one will lick treats off my hand, but any touching they can't handle - yet. So do I sort this out so I can go to the vet stress free? Or go to the vet now despite how far it will set them back? I have a couple of really good avian vets within an hour of my home, so that part's not a problem at least

Are there holistic or integrated avian veterinarians? I use a holistic vet for my dogs. I have found that traditional vet push unnecessary vaccines, know little about species appropriate diets. I was hoping to find a similar vet for my bird

2 vets I saw do not do annual blood cultures on my birds unless there is an indication they may be ill, especially because they are small (2 cockatiels and 1 gold-capped conure). Do you think CBCs should be tested every year even if the bird is small and appears healthy? My vet also gave me an article about UV light and recommended it since there isn't enough nice weather in Pittsburgh PA to take my birds out. What are your thoughts?
