By July nearly every year, our well gets so low we can only water the lawn with a single small sprinkler for about 15 minutes before pressure drops and the pump starts short cycling. (The house is on county water. We use the well for outdoor watering. Our well guy tried, last summer, to lower the pump but found it’s already on the bottom. I’m pretty sure that means the well has silted up over the 38 years since it was drilled. Originally 228 feet deep. I asked our well guy (whose dad drilled it originally) about boring or blowing it out. He said it would be better to drill a new one. I’m not convinced this one can’t be cleaned out. What are your thoughts?

I have an 18 year old drilled well which I believe is fouled with minerals. I have manganese in my well because my filters turn black and my well used to be pretty darn good but now I can't run the hose for more than fifteen or twenty minutes and we routinely run out of water if we wash clothes and take too many showers which is pretty easy to do on a normal basis as we are a family of five. I have four 35 gal pressure tanks in my basement as well as a Pentair pump protector so that if I do run out of water my pump system can work all night trying to replenish the tanks for the next mornings use. I actually work for a well pump company and they've advised me to get it Hydro fractured or get another well drilled. I'm told nobody cleans Wells anymore but I am also not convinced that this well cannot be clean chemically somehow and returned to near new condition. I'm not spending $4,000 getting something Hydro fractures or $15,000 having a new well drilled when there may be a $500 chemical solution.
