My brother had that kit, back in 76. He was 11 years old and I helped him get it done. I was too young to remember all the problems, but it came out nice, considering that he used no paint.

Nice progress on it Matthew, thanks for sharing. I'm like you, I like to have 99% of all the seams addressed, putty and sanding done before I lay a primer coat on. The goal being there will only be minor adjustments before the paint goes on. I think you hit the mark on the color. It's not exact but it will look great when you're done. The semi-gloss clear coat will add to the realism. 👍👍

Nice update Matt. Good idea going with a flat base paint and a semi gloss clear. A little polishing and your model A will look great. Yes a copper flat strap style plug leads were on these cars. Thanks for sharing.

MCW has a vinyl roof texture paint you could use on the top of the Model A, Matthew.

Nice work on the model. The green you mixed looks really good. I cannot think of a time I did not have to do some sanding after primer. Thanks for sharing.

Take some copper strands from house wire and flatten that. Works well. And VHT wrinkle paint is great for textured surfaces.

Great job so far. I used some wire that I flattened out with some pliers for plug wires and it looked good to me. I'll send you a few pics to your email.

They were very shiny when new. Most folks didn't keep the finish up, and they faded out fast. So you could make your model as shiny as you wish. Or not.

on my 37 flathead i went to temu and they have a jewelry making kit for less than $20 that has given me enough thin gauge wire in different colors to last a life time, and the wires and linkages i created with it actually look correct size. i don't mean to tell you your business but did you consider mixing flat med dark blue with green to get the hue of your buddies car? anyway nice build it looks like fun. again not judging.

Looking good. All model A coupes were five window. Ford never made a three window model A. My father had a 1930 A coupe, courted mom in it. There was a 90° turn on old Wadsworth that went under a rail line. One December evening he was coming home from a date. Slid into the concrete, mangled the right front fender. Bent the axle. To the best of my knowledge the only things that still exist, is the horn, and the jack and the horn is going into my '41 tudor sedan. I use the jack from time to time still. That car was painted the most god awful lavender. I know that, because the horn was still that color when I inherited it. The first thing I did was to take it apart, and paint it black. I left two of the bolts in that lavender in his honor.

I've got a soft spot for the model A too. In Vegas in August of 1983. Don't remember if it is was the Sands, or the Sahara casino. But one of the slot machine prizes was a restored 30 coupe. Spent the better part of that Saturday afternoon to trying to win it. It was a nice medium green.

Color is very subjective in scale. You could have the exact paint he used on his 1:1 and it will look different on your model, and different still in different light sources. The best you can do is get close. And I think you did just that! I have to remind myself, there’s a 1:1 Model A delivery truck nearby that I want to get photos of for you. Peace and love.
