So, out of the few options there are, which do you think WILL win the Best Animated Category? The artsy one? The Disney one? Or the traditional one? Or the underdogs?
And yet Indiana Jones gets it instead. I don’t even hate John Williams, but it’s Dial of Destiny. No one went to see it. Also how did Napoleon get more nominations than ATSV
"Best animated feature" is really starting to feel like the Thanksgiving kids table for movies with films like Spider-Verse being the 16 year old who's ready to sit with the adults
@@johnnyknadler1157 My boyfriend’s parent’s long time friends have a kid’s table, except everyone has grown up and they’re all in their 30s 😂 I visited them for the first time recently and when we went up to their table to serve ourselves, I felt like an 8 year old kid again ‘Be seen and not heard’ sort of thing hahah! It was so weird to feel that aspect of being a kid again.
Another year, another Oscars where animation is completely snubbed in all categories, but the one made for it. It's a disgrace, really. This deserves the original score nomination far more than Dial of Destiny. Daniel Pemberton deserves so much more recognition.
Unlike most people, I honestly loved Dial of Destiny, but I completely agree that it didn't deserve the Best Original Score nomination. I can only remember a single original track from the film and the general sound of another; this is after seeing the film twice.
If you ask me, the Emmys system are just as stupid and messy as the Oscars system. Never once do they credit a show or movie that actually earns it! Especially their disrespect torwards Animation....
Lets be honest the oscars is less about giving awards to films that deserve it and celebrating the people who did the hard work creating these films and is more so about a bunch of celebrities coming into 1 room to stroke each other's egos.
Best animation has always felt like the academy saying, "Alright you can have a bloody category." and then throwing all animated movies in one column. And then the winner being deemed the best movie that is animated, when it should be like Best Original Score & Best Original Song, judged on the art and how it looks, like the category name implies. ATS-V not getting a Best Original Score nomination is a snub, I don't care, that soundtrack is amazing.
the score between Gwen's dad leaving to find the vulture at the start to the end of the fight with the vulture may have been one of my favourite things to watch last year. it was so good!
Heron deserved Score, Screenplay, and Best Picture nominations and Across The Spiderverse deserved Score, Screenplay, and Best Picture plus VFX nominations as well considering how visually stunning and unique the animation was. It would have to take a worldwide protest to convince the Academy to take back their mistake and acknowledge that Animation is art and should be celebrated.
I think spiderverse might’ve had a real contender with score, it had a ton amazing tracks. I haven’t watched Boy and the Heron yet, and haven’t been able to find it in theaters which sucks cause I really want to. My first Ghibli film was Mononoke and I’ve been in love with it ever since
it's literally miyazaki's final ever work (probably, depends if he lives till the 2030s) and they didnt even gave the movie a nomination beyond the best animated nomination 💀
Any awards show that separates animated films into their own category and won't let them compete against other films isn't worth paying attention to. It's not even fair that when two or more really good animated films come out in the same year, they must fight against each other. There should be separate categories for hand-drawn animation, stop-motion animation, and computer-generated animation.
I don’t think having multiple categories for animated movies is a good idea… Like imagine if there were dozens of categories for movies- it would be too much. Shouldn’t all movies(animated movies included) stand on equal ground?
@@Jada-ky4ci Absolutely agree! I was just pointing out the absurdity and inconsistency of the Academy Awards sidelining animated films in their own category, as though they aren't "real" films and can't be considered for Best Picture.
Nimona is a fantastic piece of representation, Across The Spiderverse is one of the most visually creative animated films of this century with very good character writing, and Robot Dreams is generally just a very good movie, but ultimately, I do think that The Boy And The Heron is better narratively and somewhat visually due to Miyazaki just pouring all of himself into it. While more subtle and abstract than any of the other nominees, I think that The Boy And The Heron's plot manages to be more sincere and human to those who connect with it. The problem being, not everyone will connect with it. And Elemental was just mildly sweet with nothing special going on.
@@marcelinepink I think it was a really tough pick this year in terms of animation and the splitting of accolades between TBatH and AtSV is a fair way of acknowledging both.
I also think Mutant Mayhem TMNT deserves recognition. It wasn’t just a Spiderverse clone, the style serves the tone and the story. It’s definitely better than Elemental, hands down.
I honestly was pretty disappointed that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish wasn't included. I really enjoyed the movie, and loved it's animation style and mature undertones. Maybe one day animation will be viewed for the art it truly is.
I've been saying this for a while now, but if animation is going to be treated this way and only get nominated in their own category. Can we at least get a Best Voice Acting Performance Award? Voice actors don't get enough credit and it'll at least feature animation in one more category.
@@shadow1150zz disagree. I mean, just this year, we had Robert Pattinson's incredible performance as The Heron in The Boy and the Heron. That's without mentioning the entire crew of Spider-Verse was incredible.
Who's opinion matters more the audiences who actually watch the films or the oscars who focus more on stroking the egos of celebrities than actually giving out awards to films that deserve it. I think we know the answer.
@@therealsparky3I agree with you as I was very angry how The Oscar snubbed Disney's Once Upon A Studio after all it's their celebrating for their 100th years.
THANKYOU, FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT. ATSV my favourite film and it hurts so much to see film snobs discarding it because 'it was good for an animated film'. Animation needs more respect and the academy is so clearly against it.
I honestly think most award shows are just a group of friends giving a trophy to the person they like the most. It has nothing to do with actually rewarding real creativity or film making. It's more just a reason to pat themselves on the back and pretend they did a good job.
Just the mention of Nimona made me briefly choke up. That climax scene is...wow...felt so seen and so deeply understood. Not to mention, I am a big fan of shapeshifter movies/characters handled well. Not perfect, but damn real good.
Movies snubbed that could have gotten best picture: -Shin Kamen Rider -Spiderverse -They Cloned Tyrone (The ending didn't really FULLY stick the landing, but it really was an incredible film.) -Anyone can add onto this.
I think we should say : You know what. SCREW THE OSCARS! We are making our own movie award show where THE PEOPLE get to choose all the catagories, and host it the same day as the oscars on a big youtube channel.
Do you have to be such a jerk? Elemental at least would've been a worthwhile nominee at the Annies considering it was a film that was personal to Peter Sohn considering it's almost semi-autobiographical based on his parents' immigration and bigoted treatment they received when they first arrived to the U.S. and the sacrifices they had to make for him to raise him and his existential crisis of choosing between running his parents' store or pursuing his dream as an animator. And yet you act like even if they put out one film with a lot of passion and effort put into it, they deserve to be snubbed. Can't believe I'm saying this, but honestly "SCREW YOU!" @@Laura-ol5mt
Cant wait to see spiderverse 3 go against cocomelon for the one oscar the Academy will ever give to an animated film. Tbh spiderverse should have gotten score, visiuals, and effects
One film that should’ve at least gotten nominated for Best Animated Feature is The Inventor. It’s got everything an animated film needs, charm, style, characters, visual storytelling, and creativity. I know it’s a pretty obscure film, but it’s absolute Oscar material.
As things were lining up at the end of the year, it looked less and less like Spider-verse was gonna make the Best Picture noms even if it deserved it. I said months ago that anything less would be an insult, but I slowly came to terms with the idea that there are plenty of great films this year and it didn't need it this year. I was disappointed, but I was at peace with it. But that wasnt enough for those stupid Hollywood suits!!! They relized they hadn't been insulting enough, so not only did they snub it for best picture, but EVERY CATEGORY outside animation! No Best Sound. No Best Adapted Screenplay. No Best Original Song. They snubbed it for Best Visual Effects in favor of Napoleon. They snubbed it for Best Original Score in favor of FREAKING INDIANA JONES 5!!! The 'best hits' box office disaster no one saw! THAT was what made me crack. There is no hope for these award shows and as long as these people are in charge of the industry, no hope for animation to be taken seriously as works of cinema.
@@larrydoze7430 I've been watching the Oscars for almost 10 years now. They're rigged, and garner profit by means of praising the movies that they think people will want to see win awards the most. It's not a popular vote thing, it's a board of people who aren't concerned about the actual artistic merit of the show
I’m so glad Nimona got nominated. I saw the movie the day it came out and instantly fell in love, and seeing Blue Sky's spiritual swan song on such a high pedestal is nothing short of triumphant and euphoric.
Why do people even care anymore? Like, its been well established that the only things worth listening to are individual critics, and when you mix all that together you just get a blob of contradictory opinions (not to mention inevitable prejudice).
I haven't care for the longest time that's why when it comes to movies reviews i always watch youtubers reviews instead of critic one cause with youtuber film reviews it feels like i listening to actual person review the film and not a robot.
The fact that the academy nomnimated Dial of Destinys score the damn GREATEST HITS ASS SCORE over the imaginative and enthralling Across the Spiderverse score is devastating
I'm still not entirely sure how they made a really great Miles Morales Spiderman film..... and then blew their own damn film out of the water with the sequel.
I pray that the boy and the heron won’t win tbh. It was okay, there was way better movies last year like spiderverse, suzume, and Nimona. I saw suzume and the boy and the heron, and suzume was wayyyy better. It was amazing.
Best Animated Picture Oscar was created by Aardman's Chicken Run!!! It is a Dark Kids Movie, it's rated G, yet doesn't feel it!!! Hopefully, Something not Pixar/Disney wins!!!
I definitely think that Spider-Verse deserves the Best Animated award. I cannot understand why the Oscars and the Baftas keep nominating Napoleon for as many awards as they can. And only 1 nomination for Godzilla Minus One?! Out of all the contenders for Best Visual Effects, I truly believe that Minus One deserves it. 👍
I knew for a fact that Spider-Verse wouldn't get nominated for Best Picture because it's animated AND it's a superhero movie, but I did genuinely have a little bit of hope that The Boy and the Heron would get that nom since it's a lot more oscarbaity, but alas, the Academy has crushed my hopes and dreams once more. Also Spider-Verse deserved the Best Original score nom a billion times more than Indiana Jones 5 AKA The Greatest Hits of John Williams.
Why don't people on youtube make their own osscars for animation so people aren't so upset. Alot of youtubers like shafferllius know alot about animation and film and there are alot of youtubers make short films. Isn't that why people make ranking videos (even thought I hate those) or top 10 films for the year. The osscars only have as much attention and power as you give it.
Across has literally interstellar level soundtrack I have 8 OST downloaded in spotify and one of them is my fifth most heard thing of 2023 and I love the soundtrack so much it obviously deserved to win it’s the best thing I’ve ever heard Falling apart Canon event New York train scene Spot holes 2 Start a band Gwen’s theme Spider suite It DESERVED TO WIN
I genuinely don't believe any one of the people who do the nominations actually sit down and watch the animated films anymore. They just pick the ones they know get talked about on social media a lot and then give their sugar daddy Disney a kiss before handing them the award. I won't be surprised if Elemental beats ATSV or Heron, but if one of those two don't win, I will personally start a riot in the Oscars. They do not get to snub these great films multiple times.
Boy and the heron and spiderverse would’ve made great adapted screenplay, picture, and of course score nods, the fact John Williams was nomated for that embarrassment of a movie dial of destiny is insane
I mean, at least Wish was THANKFULLY snubbed, Nimona deserves the Best Animated Feature MORE THAN PIXAR, they already have plenty of Oscars, their owners already has another reason why they shouldn’t win the Oscar over a film that their owners tried to cancel, if Nimona wins, I will be happy to know that Blue Sky will finally get their first Oscar for Best Animated Feature
and will get rereleased to theaters worldwide under 20th century studios on April 12, 2024 (3 days before the 13th anniversary of RIO) and permanently pulled from Netflix on 3/22/24
Across the spider verse is an AMAZING movie, the jokes plot and characters are amazing. And don’t even mention the animation, this is the one movie that I actually got mad when it ended
@@DazaiFinch_Edits25 Suzume was good and definitely should have been on the list, but Boy and Heron was a phenomenal experience - Suzume had lots of plot holes but it was still better than some of the other nominations
Animation movie studios do a lot for movies. 4:49 The Lego Movie came out in 2014 along with How To Train Your Dragon, how did Big Hero 6 win Best Animated Feature Film agaist HTTYD? There are so many great animated movies with fantastic visuals and story telling.
@@dragowolf268I get that and that movie was great, but to say that movie got an award and not HTTYD2 is weird. Some movies are hard to pick over others and they all have positives so choosing can be hard.
Or The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. Would've been sweet to see Isao Takehata receiving an Oscar for his swan song and his contribution to Studio Ghibli with Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday and Pom Poko.
The thing that surprised me the most was Godzilla only getting one nom for vfx, I expected at least one for score but hopefully one for cinematography and maybe even best picture if we were lucky.
I Got So Mad When Across The Spider-Verse Ending, I Wanted More, Top 1 In My Favorite Movie Or Even Top 3 Favorite, Can't Wait For Beyond The Spider-Verse, The Oscar Are Dumb. I Have Not Been This Hyped For A Spiderman Movie Ever. 😃
So is this why Disney started making live action copies of their old work? Just for the Oscars? Good for them if that’s the case (or not). At least Walle remains untouched (probably because it’s already partially live action, in a good way).
As much as I wanted Robot Dreams to win, it hardly stands a chance against atsv and The boy and the heron, mainly 'cause its an outlier with no studios weight. I'm super glad it got a nomination at least though! It was a really amazing year for animation!
It is hard to feel bad for Barbie though with its 8 nominations and $1.4 billion boxoffice. That fan base needs to calm down a little. 😅 The 5 actresses and directors nominated deserve to be there as much as Robbie and Gerwig
I never cared about the Oscars and given the recent changes it's had I care about them even less. At least this movie was successful and received well that's all that matters in my book.
If an animated movie is nominated for best picture, then what's the point of having the other 4 movies in the animation category be called nominees? Obviously the one animated movie that would be nominated for best picture will win best animated picture, so there's no point in having the animation category and the nominations.
The same thing is done for International Feature. There are a bunch of categories at the Oscars where the winner is basically known way before the ceremony. It's the honor of being nominated that counts.
People complaint about Big Hero 6 robbing How To Train Your Dragon 2 at the Oscars but nobody is mentioning the bigger robbery that happens with Toy Story 4 robbing How To Train Your Dragon 3 and Klaus. At least Big Hero 6 is a fun original story with solid writings while Toy Story 4 is just straight up a mediocre film with questionable writings and downright awful decisions that spits on the original trilogy.
Tbh I’m just happy that nimona got a nomination I expected spiderverse to get at least one but nimona getting nominated was such a pleasant surprise even if it doesn’t win.
Eh, they're only worth as much value as you give it and I don't care much for what they choose, it doesn't change how good or bad the films were. Except for last year, they were based for that. I am very pleased a stop-motion film (and quite a dark one at that) got the recognition it deserves, I didn't really expect it.
Honestly, if the Oscars really hates animation, they can just erase the Best Animated Feature category entirely. And besides, we should be supporting the Annies instead of the Oscars, because at least they care about animation.
The stigma towards animation is disgusting... I do not understand why its STILL a problem. I almost feel like things won't get better until _all_ of the older people running the awards and stuff are long dead. Its just gonna take that long for the status quo to change (and even then it will take a while because all of their children will likely adopt similar philosophies). Its a CRIME that Across the Spider-verse was snubbed. That movie is a MASTERPIECE in basically every way. Far more time, effort, and work was put into that than most if not all live action movies. The blood, sweat, and tears of a thousand animators (and that's not even considering all the voice acting, music, and writers! So many people worked on this)!
This just hits so deep how the Oscar circle back when Guillero Del Torro to express animation isn’t just for kids discussion.. just Woah spiderverse has the best ongoing story and animation
Reopen blue sky studios on 2/22/24 for rerelease of NIMONA to theaters under blue sky studios on 4/12/24 (remove from netflix permanently on March 22, 2024)
The Oscars are no longer relevant These days. It used to be a glimpse into the world of movie makers and actors, Now, it's little more than politics and industry pros patting themselves on the back. No 1 really cares anymore Since the pandemic lockdown and the writer's and actors strikes.. The " golden age" of Hollywood has long since past
Big hero six won it over: -HTTYD -Tale of princess Kaguya -Lego movie These are some of the biggest classics of these studios, some even being considered their magnum opus But NOOOOOOO, give it to the movie which screws up its villain in the WORST way possible
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, Elemental and The Super Mario Bros Movie being snubbed from Best Score is disappointing. At least give animated movies more categories.
It pains me that with some of the greatest songs and soundtracks I’ve ever heard in a comic book movie and an animated movie, that they were robbed for harshly.
