not sure if you do or not but wet the line before you start fishing to help lube up the line, even a drop of soap in a bottle with water makes the line cast soo much smoother!

I probably damaged it at some point and weakened that spot, that's my theory anyway. I'm kind of rough on fishing gear.

Interesting , more than likely just a small factory deflect that took this look long to show it's self . Almost all my rods are ugly sticks love them. Caught a small 2 lb carp this year you are right very seldom catch a small one. Thanks for the video.

Hi Tommo hope your well. I have to agree with what Charles Swiger says then you will achieve the distances you require and still use them for close in work and they will last you a lifetime,you dont need to spend a lot as the quality of the cheaper rods is outstanding today especially here in the UK and pay the shipping costs, 50 to 60 dollars each here theres a company here which is quite large called Angling Direct they have a range they call Advanta and you can get them now for half price. Always take the extra time to check the specs on your rod before buying. From what I could find a GX2 6.6' one piece is rated for up to 3/4oz, so 4 to 5 oz of terminal tackle might be a bit much. I like the Shimano FXS90MHC2, $25 and rated for up to 4oz weights. It also has a longer butt stock to plant/pivot on your hip for easier work on the arm holding the foregrip above the reel when reeling in bigger carp, 25lbs +

Problem is, those heavy broomstick rods result in more hook pulls. While a stiff rod works better for casting heavy baits, a more flexible rod works better for actually fighting a fish.

Ugly stiks are good for the money and probably 1 of the most durable rods on the market but every now and then 1 is bound to fail it happens nothing is perfectly indestructible

I'm with you on this one Tom. I've used Ugly Stik rods for years. Six are MH and 2 Mediums. I throw 4-6 oz no roll sinkers plus bait for catfishing, never had an issue or snapped an Ugly Stik. Used two of the rods to throw Musky Bull Dawgs. Those puppies are between 8 oz and a pound. Snapped a couple of Berkley rods but admit it was probably the way I wound up and heaved ho that caused the rods to break. Shakespeare will quite likely replace it if you take the time to submit photos. Thanks for sharing the video.

I just ended up buying a new one. I'm thinking that maybe sometime in the past I may have damaged the rod accidentally and weakened it in that spot. Seems more likely than some kind of manufacturer defect.

You need extra heavy action rod that is what i use carp fishing with 1 to 2 ounce lead and pack bait . I use carolina carp specials with abu rockets tho . But yes heavy to extra heavy is what you need with at least a 2.5 to 3 pound curve . I have sonic Vader x rods 13 foot with okuma 6000 for my wild water and i love them they have a 3.5 pound curve and are awesome .

I mean I caught a carp using 8 pound line with a 2 inch grub as lure...anything can happen. Good thing is though I loose my drag and let the fish tired itself.

Nice to see you cleaning up the bank. I do that too, anglers get a bad rap for a few that leave trash. Most of us pick up more than we take in though. 👌 Thats a bummer about the rod!

I try to leave every place I fish at least a little bit better than I found it. Gets old though, there are some places that I just don't even go to anymore because the amount of trash is just depressing. Thanks for watching.

Bummer about the Ugly Stik. I too have had nothing but good luck with Ugly Stiks and will continue buying/using them. And I fish carp fish with 6’ medium actions! Also, thanks for the litter patrol Tom. I do the same thing. It always amazes me that people can haul full bottles and cans of soda and beer out to their fishing and hunting spots but they can’t haul the empties back out with them!!!

I just wouldn’t tell the mgfr the amount of weight you were using, cause I think those are only rated to 3/4oz or so haha. Even with that my MH rods always work fine with heavier baits. I like the GX2s

There isn't a lure weight rating on the rod. I just ended up buying a new one. They have always worked great with heavy baits. I kind of wonder if I may have accidentally damaged the rod at some point and weakened it in that spot.

wanting to get a new rod for shore fishing on the beach. would you still recommend the gx2. will be using 30lb mono 60lb leader and a 4-6 oz lead

Yes, I bought another one to replace. Great rods for the money. They come in a variety of sizes and powers. Check the video description for the Ugly Stiks that I use. I use a lot of them.

guess you might have not waited for the weight on the end of your line to hang back at 9 o'clock before casting and may have snapped it forward hard to early putting to much tension , why did you not get the 7 footer for longer casting? perhaps only the 6'6" comes med heavy? my 7ft is med but that is a weird break point for casting perhaps it had a defect, these things can't all be built the same perfect quality i imagine

The 6.5 footers will fit in my truck without having to take apart. I probably damaged the rod at some point over the years and weakened that spot. That's my theory.

Hi im new to carp fishing and should i be buying a ugly stick gx2 for 50 euros or should i buy from a website thats good anx popular in my country for carp where the gear is 2-4x as expensive

Over the pond, we use a 12' 3lb test curve rod to throw 4oz leads. Honestly, I'm surprised these haven't snapped sooner. Can you guys get 'proper' carp tackle over there? I know it's not as popular as it is in Europe

We can special order stuff but the price doesn't make sense to us. Carp fishing is too productive and reliable here to spend too much money.

You can buy carp gear here in the US, Big Carp Tackle out of Oklahoma. They have carp rods starting under $20. You can get Daiwa Mad dragons for around $60. They have everything a US carp angler needs. End of commercial.😂

Oh, it’s nice to see somebody catch some carp this holiday weekend here in Pennsylvania where I live every place I go to the carp are in full spawn mode and they are not biting a dang thing. At least I got to watch somebody catch a carp this weekend lol.

💩 happens. I noticed all brands are starting degrade quality on gear. I got lucky and find nice rod and reels on 50% sale right before covid, and now after 3or4 year they are 30% more of original price in store😬. Sadly paycheck stayed the same😑.

I’ve never had issues with my ugly stik elite, it’s a medium action which is probably why it never broke, med heavy rods across all brands have issues with premature breaking, I’m not sure they corrected the issue but Daiwa’s SP surf rod, 10ft in particular had a bad habit of the tips snapping off on the first cast out of the box, bummer you lost a rod, but on the positive note, it’s not a problem that is endemic to ugly stik & you didn’t come out of pocket much in the first place. Lastly I use the ugly stick or everything, I haven’t used many of my much more expensive rods in quite sometime. It’s a good rod to fish for nearly everything within reason.

To be fair lead + pack bait that ur casting looks super heavy must way a lot! (Maybe make the pack bait smaller) happened to me before when casting a PVA bag out, when I reduced the weight of the lead it was fine problem is the bigger the lead weight the more aggressive the hook hold is. The lighter the rod the more fun and accurate , the stronger the rod the more economically sustainable and risk free but not as fun. Decisions

I HAVE HAD ONE FOR ABOUT 20 YEAR WITH MADE IN USA LIFETIME WARRANTY. NOW STILL ON .AND COUPLE YEARS FROM NOW I PURCHASED ANOTHER WITH MADE IN CHINA ONLY 7 YEARS WARRANTY. I'M SORRY YOUR MIGHT BE CHINA MADE.
