Tori Whanau"s personal financial situation deserves a very small violin response. She is highly paid, totally lacking in self awareness and completely out of touch with the average rate payer. She needs to go, along with most of this useless and incompetent Council.

She lied.. She didn't sell her car because she is struggling, sure she may have sold the car. but she said it to appear in touch with people who are struggling, she isn't in touch though.

Absolutely. Some pensioners who genuinely worked hard and have not been able to save due to life's misfortunes, only get less than 1/6th of what she gets and still have to pay all the bills she pays. What a selfish hypocrite. From where I am and what I hear and see, she's on the pigs back.

This lady has a salary of 189,799. She won 1.2 million at Lotto. And still she sold her car to pay the bills because she claims she doesn't have enough money because of the "cost of living". I want to live in the same world she lives in.

(22:07) $550,000 bike rack spent by WCC, but she won't even make someone accountable. Who the heck is profiting off rate payers here? (24:21) She thinks it's a "small" mistake. (29:25) Tory Whanau can't even distinguish between 70 million and 140 million dollars and whether it's being spent on "The Golden Mile" or on "Thorndon quay", despite her insistent advocacy for the golden mile developments. (13:10) Golden Mile Construction affecting businesses. Tory Whanau - " ... I can't give businesses 40 grand". She actually thinks it's her money, and who the heck does she keep turning to for answers? (20:46) turns around again for answers. Does Wellington have to keep on with this? Who is she really representing here?
So out of her debt it is unbelievable. How on earth can she continue to build more bike lanes when we cant afford to pay for food and transport let alone buy a bike to use the bloody lanes. And she tells him that Wellingtonians have asked for this.
She is out of her depth, she is an embarrassment, stop lying and stop all the wasteful spending, fix the pipes and forget about the golden mile, Do the ratepayers a favour and resign now!!!!!

The current mayor and council are mostly duds! Paying more in rates than ever before and getting less. And the mayor's solution is to start charging for water! WCC has had to submit Long Term Plans for many years yet, presumably, water infrastructure was either ignored or not completed.

Oh thank god! More 90% empty parklets is just what the city needs - they can sit alongside the 90% empty cycle lanes!! What is WRONG with this woman!!! And they want to have a permanent 24hr “street fair” that has NO relation to how people actually shop, & she wants to stop businesses being able to actually look after themselves and give a compensation package in response. It would be funny if it wasn’t so utterly disgusting!!! x

34462 Wellingtonians decided she would be the best person to run the budget in Wellington city. She would be the NZ version of America's supper mayor from Dolton Illinois Tiffeny Henyard.
Biggest issue for all ratepayers is that we have no choice in the matter of rate increases. Our rates go up and service either reduces or doesn't improve, so its not like we are even getting anything positive from it. Point two, if we are disastisfied with our service for our money we can shop somewhere else, but not when it comes to rates. AND we have no choice in the matter we can't refuse to pay for it otherwise we get taken to court. Third point. We are all having to tighten our belts and watch our spending yet this council and many others I dare say are not even considering the must haves and nice to haves. As far as they are concerned we are an open cheque nook. THAT needs to stop. The mayor and the councillors have to rain in the discretionary spending. Case in point bike lanes, speed bumps and overpriced bike racks. It only needs an edict from the mayor and councillors to the over zealous greenie urban planners to say we are not doing those projects... We don't have the money....
Council and mayor have never cared about how much they can screw out of ratepayers for their dumb ideas. Any person with half a brain would stop cycle lanes, the golden mile destruction, which is full of empty shops already and will be decimated if they ever start it, removal of parking, which the council finance clowns may not have realized actually brings in REVENUE, $550,000 bike rack on The Terrace, etc. etc. WCC is going to bankrupt the city and force thousands of ratepayers to leave. Well done Tory and the Green/Labour councillors, mission accomplished eh?
This cities landlords are doing better than everyone else here and that a truth. The tax cuts that support those that don't need it is what it wrong here and the fact innervation, infrastructure are out wayd by hoarding and property pops

The city looks Not great Newtown looks like the middle east the city looks like a ghost town and push bikes and busses an dominat plus constraint road works and she throws money into buildings that aren't worth saving
I agree with you to an extent, but she won the lottery in 2002. 22 years ago. Her lotto win has no weight in this conversation. That money would be long gone for any of us after 22 years.
The mayor is experiencing the most difficult times economically Wellington and this country has experienced in the 60 years i have lived here. Local government is grossly over regulated and that is an additional burden. Mayors and senior staff in the greater Wellington area need to work collectively to resolve the problem of rates.
Sadly not being boring doesn't cut the cloth or get the right things done. Some of her behaviours have been appalling, and her greeny influence sure added to a stuffed up Wellington economy.
