Just had a truly beautiful holiday touring N.Z. got back only 4 days ago. I also lived in New Zealand when I was in my teens. Amazing scenery. & Te Papa museum is not to be missed
I made my first visit to Wellington in May 2007, arriving on the Intetrislander Ferry from Picton, and the Tranzcoastal train from Christchurch. Since then I've fallen in love with the city! It's a great place to visit or live. Mind that wind though! Wellington is said to be the second windiest city in the world, beaten only by Chicago!!!
wellington is an excellent place to live and i would strongly recommend it, it has real variety and there is something quite special about it, there is also a thriving british communtity

Wellington is a great place to live,despite the winds we get here. She's a beautiful city and i have to disagree with anyone that says theres nothing to do,especially in summer.

Hi I'm 19 and from Australia. I was living in New Zealand a year ago and I can definitely say that it's a beautiful place to live if your in to nature and a laidback lifestyle. There's alot of outdoor things to do. It's very clean and untouched nature wise. I plan on living there again, the people are friendly and it's just an awesome place. The only bad thing I can say is the economey is pretty weak compared to Australia. (obviously Aus is bigger but still...)
OMG, I was born in Palmerston North and lived in Levin until I was 7. LEVIN!!! The bloody place protested when they tried to build a KFC. THEY ACTUALLY PROTESTED IT!!! Thank God I live in Auckland now. It's where my heart is

nice job dude, im from Auckland (NZ's biggest city) and i find wellington's setting, atmosphere and general vibe to be far superior to anything ive encountered before.
I'm moving there in February, hoping to land a job in special effects...I was going to go and try my luck in LA, but since America is going bankrupt and completely downhill, I thought of New Zealand as one of the last true places of truly sovereign paradise and it took no more than a minute to make the decision of going there. My only problem is that I despise wind, but I'll get used to it :)
Depends on what you like, mate, If you're young, then go for Auckland. Wellington is also pretty. Whatever you decide, I'd take a trip to the North Island. Good Skiing and surfing in the same day there.

Wellington is amazing (: I used to live like right next to Cuba St so I always had stuff to do, and was always super close to everything. I miss NZ and Wellington alot, I'm in Italy now and it's amazing, but honestly I prefer Wellington hah
There are a few film and television facilities in the eastern suburbs of Wellington. Weta Digital is in the area too. I think they do computer animation..
Unfortunately, the vid doesn't mention many things to do in greater Wellington. The region possibly has the best public transport network in the country: Most places in the greater Wellington region are easily accessed by bus/train. Other activities in the wider area can include camping, hiking, wine tasting, outdoor adventure activities etc. Also, many suburbs have unique markets at different times of the week, so if you have the time, spend some going a little further than the central city!
Agree with Skinnbagz. Ive travelled the world, and Courtney Place (Main Clubbing Scene Street) is in a class of its own. Nothing else goes off like this street, where its always full of people, every Saturday night. I think wellingtons scene is Way better than aucklands. All the clubs are right next too eachother, and its a safe enviroment.
Hmmm, Rainbow's end, the Sky tower (which is like all the towers you see in most cities in the world, yawn, nothing new there) and Sylvia Park. Mmmm. What a drawcard :)
@carolina3403 no no its fine. you speak better english than many people i know who only speakenglish. a lot of the places were made ina studio, but they closed off some streets for filming the scenes in the city, so people could not walk/drive down the streets when it was filmed

Picton is not the main city at the top of the South Island :) It has like 3000 people... Blenheim is probably the "main" town in Marlborough - it's maybe 10 times as big...
Well Wellington really is one of the BEST cities in the world. I'm not just saying that cos iv lived there for 19 years. Definitly likend to San Fran, also cos of the earthquake risk. 2 days aint enough time. GO Lord of the Rings and King Kong by Peter Jackson wellingtonian made these films here in Welly.
To be honest, I love America, I didn't want to leave, and I am saving every penny I have to go back hahaha. But Australia would be better simply because it's not so small and cold. New Zealand is a beautiful place but it is small. And I know how Americans don't like small. But come over for a holiday and check it out, you may like it ;)
Thats not fair Ilyatl, Wellington is a great place to live or to holiday. You have Cuba Street, there are plays and musical events, the night life may not be world class but it's fun and I've always found the people to be really nice. Just because ou didn't take advantage of what it has to offer is no reason to bag it

I live in sydney but im from wellington... aboriginal people means the natives of that country... aboriginal maoris isnt an insult.. so aboriginals and maoris do belong in the same sentence.just depends how you look at it.. I wont sing wellingtons praises..i left there so there mustve been something with the place that wasnt for me... but..it is a nice place with fresh air and awesome scenery...thanks for sharing...
Why some people always have to compare places with others? like this guy say , this looks like California,NO sorry , it looks like New Zealand. The same with my country Canada , I heard people saying ,the mountains look like Switzerland,No ,im sorry , my mountains looks like my country Canada! Give the value of the natural treasure to where it belongs .
Not bad! I can only cull 2 technical faults with this video.. The first has been pointed out already - the distinct difference between the Aboriginal people, and the Maori people. I'm not sure on the Aboriginal history or culture, but I understand they are quite different. The other thing was, he mentioned "Lambert Walk" - The correct name is "Lambton Quay", and going by the video, the shots appeared to be from a hundred metres or so up another street off Lambton Quay, perhaps on Willis Street.
