A Chinese historical related watch with details about the Dunhuang desert area, where the Silk Road trade route had an oasis with Buddhist monks settled around long time ago, and left statues, drawings and scripts around. All three color variants of the watch bezels have different patterns based on those. The leather strap variant clasps has special decorations, too. The 12 hour marker is a unique symbol with the theme. There is a hidden secret text printed on the inner wall of the case: "Dunhuang" and the GPS coordinates of the location. 🙂 This watch is a perfect example that those Chinese watchmakers are not only able to produce homages. Thanks for the review! 👍

I have been waiting for a review on this watch for a long time now. Thanks for the review

I like the look of this, however given I (and I'd assume the majority of westerners) have no attachment to or reason to wear a Donhuang city themed watch I'd probably give this a pass. Nice review as always anyhow 👍

My initial impression of the watch was that it looked more Nordic than anything else. Having Viking ancestors, I was really into this, but I know nothing about Dunhuang. I loved the textured dial, but strangely it's ruined for me because it's a topographical map of somewhere I can't really relate to. At first glance, this watch was an immediate yes. I was nearly positive I was going to buy it. The more I learned about it, the more I fell out of love. I don't hate it at all, I just don't care for it anymore. If I wore it, and someone noticed it, and I had to explain the history of the watch, someone would think I was really into Silk Road history, when in fact I'm not. Which would beg the question, "Why are you wearing a Silk Road watch??"

No, I think quite the opposite. You could instead introduce him to some unique things related to the Silk Road or brought by the Silk Road, like black tea. I believe almost everyone has had black tea, such as Darjeeling or Ceylon, which came from the Silk Road. These don't necessarily show your love for the Silk Road, although I don't deny that wearing a collaborative watch can indicate that. For example, I might buy some NASA-related items. More often, I think these objects with stories can better reflect my experiences and qualities. But more importantly, when you find yourself in awkward situations, like being alone with a stranger of the opposite sex, you can tell interesting stories to ease the tension and open up topics. Generally speaking, this will increase the other person's favor towards you.

@@BlueLightning1988 - The only person of the opposite sex I'm going to have an uncomfortable conversation with is my *_wife,_* and she's going to ask me why I care enough about the Silk Road to wear a watch dedicated to it. I'm not going to tell her it's because we have tea in the cupboard. I'd rather adorn myself with things I find personal interest in. You mention NASA, and I'd honestly be infinitely more likely to wear a NASA watch than a Silk Road watch, because I am fascinated by space. I have watched countess documentaries about our solar system. I have never watched a single documentary about the Silk Road.

@@bradleypariah Ah, I think it's just a matter of trends. No doubt, in the 21st century, we don't care much about the past, history, or archaeology. We care more about the present. I don't care where the Silk Road took people, but I do care if Musk can take me to Mars in my lifetime and at a price I can afford. When it comes to history, not many today know about Portugal's Magellan, but plenty know Ronaldo from Portugal. By the way, there's Portugal vs. Slovenia tomorrow at 3:00

Well, as I said in the first sentence of my original post, I was originally drawn to this watch because I thought it looked Nordic, and I have Viking ancestors. I personally am not averse to wearing things that tie to history. I simply prefer to wear things that pertain to my personal history or heritage.

I'd wear this, I really like the white and green version. But if i had to choose a Welly Merck I'd rather have their Naruto or Evangelion watch 😂.

@@funwithwatches7549 at 2:10 it looks like the 1 o'clock lume is off to the side, maybe the indice is angled and the right side is in the shade?
