welp i watched SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD!! "COMMENTARY/REACTION" 

Great choice Leo. This movie brings me back to my early 20s. Nobody seemed to have a real job. Life revolved around going to shows and partying. Great time to be alive.

this movie is basically “What if real life was like a comic book mixed with a video game?” brought to life and i absolutely love it, i’ve been loving this movie for 12 years and i will never stop loving it

One of the fun things to think about with this movie is how much more freaking expensive it would be to make now just based on the casting. We have a pre-MCU Chris Evans and Brie Larson, a pre-Parks and Rec Aubrey Plaza, and a pre-Pitch Perfect Anna Kendrick. They all get paid SO much more money per film now than they did when this was originally made.

the movie never really explains it but the times when ramona appears in his dreams, it's actually her projecting herself into his thoughts through subspace or something like that, apparently in the books all americans have this ability if i remember correctly

I hope anyone else who is going through a difficult time tries their best to enjoy the weekend. Force yourself to go out and interact with someone, do something that you love, and remember to take a shower and put on some nice clothes, It'll make you feel better!

I was one of the few who actually caught this at the cinema. The lack of advertising really hurt this movie. Thankfully it's now getting the love it deserves. Edgar Wright is an insane director.

Yes, this movie is based off a comic book, and yes they made a side scroller video game based on the characters, but I think the best way to understand wth is going on in this movie is to think of Scott Pilgrim himself as the director of this movie about his life. Everything we see in the film is filtered through Scott's perspective of how things went, or how he imagines they could have went in his own fantasy. Scott loves comic books and fighting games and music, so we get a lot of scenes with that stuff as the fantasy overlay for what was really probably much more normal. Scott probably didn't even need to physically fight any of Ramona's Exs, he just had to be better than them in Ramona's eyes or something like that. It's all a very surreal metaphor for an otherwise simple love story.

Some fun factoids for the Evil Exes in the comic version: - Matthew Patel: The final part of his fight is a Bollywood number in the movie - but in the comics, it's a Space Channel 5-style battle, with Scott backed up by his friends. - Lucas Lee: He left behind his Mythril Skateboard upon defeat. Unfortunately, Scott forwent skateboard proficiency in school for broadsword proficiency, so he couldn't collect it. - Todd Ingram: He wasn't just cheating on his vegan diet, but on Envy as well (with their bandmate on the drums). - Roxy Richter: Order of events was quite different in the comics, as it was during the battle with Roxy that Scott confessed his love for Ramona and unlocked The Power of Love (the weapon). Also, when he defeated Roxy with it, she burst into cute critters instead of coins like the other exes did. - Katayanagi Twins: Ramona did indeed date them at the same time, though it was behind each others' backs. It was only when they realized this that the twins decided to stick together. - Gideon Graves: Besides Ramona, he had six other girlfriends...and kept them all in cryostasis. - Just a bonus, but by Brian Lee O'Malley's Word of God, everyone in this world is capable of respawning - including the Evil Exes, reappearing at their respective homes after defeat, properly humbled. You can actually see Crash and the Boys appearing in the audience at the Rockit after Matthew incinerated them from the stage.

"Where do they come up with these band names?" They're named after semi-obscure Nintendo games, as in, the original mid 80's Nintendo Entertainment System. Sex Bob-Omb is a combination of "Sex Bomb" and the enemy "Bob-Omb" from the Super Mario Brothers series, and "Clash at Demonhead" and "Crash And The Boys" were NES games. "Crash and the Boys" actually has a double pedigree as it was a stripped of greater context adaption of a Japanese series called Kunio-Kun, another game in said series was one of the more popular 'lesser known' NES titles, River City Ransom. (As in, they made a game in Japan called Kunio-Kun Somethingorother, and then brought it over to the West with a changed plot called River City Ransom. Then they made another game featuring Kunio-Kun and its characters, and then brought it over as a completely different unrelated to River City Ransom game called Crash And The Boys).

Scott Pilgrim is a masterpiece! Critics liked it but got caught up just talking about the "innovative" video game FX angle. But a testament to how clever and funny this movie is, is that during the pandemic the cast reunited to do a table read of the script and it was still laugh out loud funny with NO special effects. Michael Cera is great, and there are so many once and future superheroes in the cast it's insane (even Aubrey Plaz eventually became one in Legion).

They took a six-volume comic book and squashed it into a movie, so a lot of stuff is left out. Envy Adams (The Envy comes from her initials N.V., short for Natalie Victoria) was Scott's college girlfriend. They met because she was Julie's roommate (Julie hated her then and sucks up to her now that's she famous.). Back then, Envy was a gamer-girl/anime fan who was introverted and didn't care too much about her appearance. The only hint of that in the movie is there is a split second pic of a strip of photo-booth photos of Scott and Envy from when they were together. In any event, Envy was a good singer, so Scott and Steven Stills brought her into their band. She got a lot more confident and and started changing the way she looked and acted. Just when the band was getting notice, she quit and moved to Montreal to get back together with her ex and form a new band.

fun fact, the actress that plays Knives is three years older than the actor that plays Scott. Also, the reason Ramona can skate-melt ice away is symbolism for her being real hot. That something that would usually happen in a cartoon, but it was incorporated in the Scott Pilgrim universe. Amazing reaction man, stay awesome

It's hillarious how the drummer yelled out the bands name during the intro and it took until you saw Knives Chow's fan made t-shirt to make the connection. Also, the Bob-Ombs are from the Mario games. They are the walking bombs in the games. *Thanks for the spelling clarification 🙂*

A personal friend of mine, Vic Fieger, created most of the fonts used as the special on-screen video game text effects in this movie. Most people don't know that, because annoyingly he was not given credit for them in the movie, and even the DVD special features incorrectly credit Blur Studios for Vic Fieger's work. But it still looks awesome in this movie, and it's really cool looking.

Scott pilgrim is about getting over you exes and your past. Learning to gain more confidence and self respect. Admitting that you made mistakes and try to own up and fix it. They use video game symbolism and action to make the story more fun. Every crazy thing in this movie is basically a metaphor to represent what it feels like dealing with these situations in real life. It’s just done in a very fun action video game style.

Scott Pilgrim is a movie based on a graphic novel that takes place in a video game reality. Edgar Wright is a madman AND a genius for pulling this one off.

I still consider the role of Lucas Lee to be Chris Evans’ best character.

I was 14 when this movie came out. Me and my best friend went to go see it on the release date I had no idea what it was about but by the end it was the most fun I had since Spider-Man 2 in the theaters. This really empowered my love for cinema and absurdist humor. THIS ROCKS GO SCOTT PILGRIM!!!

ok, let me put it to you like this: scott, at the beginning of the film, is immature. he is in a state of arrested development. thats why theres so many comic book and video game references. it is childhood holding on too long. he is dating a younger girl, presumably doesn't work, etc. as he is tested, as he is growing and learning, the challenges are changing. the problems become something he can't just punch and kick to overcome. they require a more mature outlook on life, and wisdom to overcome. though he continues to fail, he is also learning from that failure. he is faced with the real source of his issues: himself. he fucked things up.... not ramona or her exes. he did. and he has to overcome that and learn to love himself. to forgive himself. to truly move on and become a man. and in the end, he finds not only true love, but self respect and dignity. he becomes a better person than how he was previously behaving. and knives learns she doesn't need a man, or a cooler older chick, or a social group to define her. and ramona is able to mature as well. she wants to run again in the end, the way she always does. but she opens her heart to scott and decides to stick it out w him. to really actually allow someone in. and in that way, this film is a great coming of age story, and a great love story. two people who legitimately make each other better people in the end.

Great choice again killing it Leo! This was a super fun reaction to watch. This is directed by the guy who did Hot Fuzz which you loved, he also did Shaun of the Dead which youve reacted to. You should check out his action movie with Jamie Foxx called "Baby Driver". Edgar Wright (the director) is a very stylistic director so his movies are always fun to watch, very original.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. It’s based off a comic book and the film is literally comic book/real life put together. When you said “The Nigga Scott” brooo 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I could not stop laughing. One the funniest things you’ve ever said doing a reaction.

Mr. Video, this movie is an allegory for the traumas that people bring into new relationships. Ramona has emotional scars from seven previous relationships that Scott has to "fight" through in order to truly connect with her. That's why each fight gets progressively more difficult, and different tactics are needed for each one. In Scott's fight with Roxanne, he needs Ramona's help, because he's never navigated a gay relationship before. He also needs her help with Gideon because he's her big bad ex, until he finds that self-respect is what he needs to stand above Ramona's memory of him. This movie works on so many levels.

The first time I saw this movie, it became an instant favorite! When I ran across it on DVD, guess who smartly bought a copy!

This is one of my all time favorite movies. It's as loaded with references, humor, and ridiculousness as Airplane. You can watch it a dozen times and still catch stuff you missed. The feel of the movie is so unique, there's nothing else like it out there. Scott Pilgrim vs The World, to me, is art. The cast is also surprising. So many of the actors in this went on to all sorts of major movies and remain major players in Hollywood. Chris Evans (played the action star) is Captain America. Anna Kendrick (Scott's sister) was in Pitch Perfect and lots of other movies. Brie Larson (Clash lead singer) is Captain Marvel. Brandon Routh (bassist for Clash) played Superman in Man of Steel. Aubrey Plaza (girl with the censored mouth) is in a ton of movies. Mary Elizabeth Winstead played in a number of movies and is currently married to Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi)...the list goes on and on.

This director is one of the greatest. He directed the Cornetto Trilogy which are some of my favorites.

I'm 20's are about to end real soon, my adolescense time wasn't full of going out, parties, gfs or men and women being close friends as in the movie, just study stuff, no gf and some friendships that dind't last. Watching this movie or similar genres to this about teens makes me feel like I lived those experiences and maybe my 30's would be filled with those. Still, I still have my family and that's the most important thing. 10/10 fun movie

This movie is from Edgar Wright, the same director who did Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz! So glad you enjoyed it even if it tripped you out! I remember after it came out on DVD, I went to a special screening where every person in the theater was a fan (so not like just randos who have no idea what the movie was about, we are all FANS), so that almost turned into a party. Bonus was that Edgar and Kieran Culkin (Wallace) showed up for a Q&A. They also did a DVD signing, and I made my own Sex-Bob-Omb t-shirt like Knives Chau wore, to show Edgar Wright. Oh and I also dressed up as Knives once for Halloween. Those were such fun times!

There was (Chris Evens-Captain America and the human torch) (Mary Elizabeth Winstead-Royal Pane, Huntress) (Brie Larson-Captain Marvel) (Brandon Routh-Superman, Ray Palmer) (Thomas Jane-The Punisher) (Alison Pill-Star Trek) This was very meta. Actors playing comic book characters who played live action version of other alternate universe versions of themselves. LOL This movies kind of nailed the multiverse before it was a thing. lol
