As much as I hate to admit it, me too. 30 dollar cheap somewhere Else made jeans vs 100 buck American jeans of slightly quality jeans. The 50 buck foreign vs the 100 buck American. I would still bought the foreign jeans. Just being honest. If it’s for 50 percent but 75 percent. Prob buy American. The gap is so huge these days. I want to buy American made. But I sometimes feel that the American company ask more just bc it’s American made only, and no other reason. To an extent, they have that right. But I also have the right to buy oversea stuff. We, as Americans or the west need to find a way to fit the hole someway where everyone actually wins from ceo to plant emp to buyer of the thing
I’m most impressed by the magic pocket…subtle, but I may have rewatched that part three or four times to confirm that your t-shirt does not in fact have a sneaky pocket. Very helpful video!
The triangular scale is an architects scale. It is for pulling off measurements from scaled blue prints. Use three 1/4” scale to measure/draw 1/4” =1’-0” blue prints, etc.
Somebody sure does like the Wen line. They’re sold out almost everywhere. Thank you for the video!! I’ll be adding some of these to the shop as soon as possible
I have a Wen bench drill press, trim router, and planer with helical head. I love their products. Wen is so under rated. Thanks for supporting Wen Matt.
I have the trim router, drill press and spindle sander. All have more than exceeded my expectations. I gotta tell you I am not embarrassed to have someone see them in my shop...they are that good.
Excellent quality for the price. I own the 8" jointer. My only complaint would be the aluminum tables. Mine started getting scratched up immediately so I just ordered some cast iron ones from cutech. I also have a wen router, a wen impeller for my dust collector, and several measuring tools. They are all great
Igaging (American owned company) have some great tools. Just got their 3" and 6" combo set of squares. Came with a case and a mechanical pencil (lead included). Thanks for the video and the outro was a cool surprise!
I have the wen band saw. Have been using it for a couple of years now with absolutely no problems. I don't have any T shaped marking square with holes for pencil. Been thinking about it so I went ahead just now and ordered the 3 when ones. They are a very reasonable price. Thanks for this video
I have several WEN tools. Planer, hand planer, drill press and table etc. WEN is so UNDERRATED!! I absolutely love their products and I will be buying ALL OF THESE marking tools. Thanks for the review
Just a comment about Woodpeckers: I was fortunate to have a personal one-on-one tour of their manufacturing facility. As a manufacturing engineer I was interested in their processes. Their array of the latest machining technology and the volume of CNC multi-axis machining centers is more than a little impressive. I was blown away, and that's not easy to do with my experience. Interestingly, I learned that 40-50% of their production is sold to tool collectors. It would be awesome to afford to fully equip my shop with their products, however, I'm just a hobbyist and conservative buyer. I really enjoy your product reviews. It has helped me on numerous occasions.
Thanks for the video. I will not be adding any Wen tools to my workshop as the few that are available are outrageously expensive for what they are - at least on this side of the ocean. Glad you like them.
I use the measurements on a square all the time, and I love love love having metric and imperial measures on one tool. Go Wen (I have a few Wen tools also; they rock).
Oh yeah? If starret is so good then how come I've never seen a commercial for them? The only time I ever see them is in every single machinist tool chest....ohhhhhh
@@andwmi they are THE name in precision machine measuring tools. Especially micrometers. There are of course more expensive ones but they seem to get away with not advertising. At least not anywhere I'm aware of. :)
I have been a fan of Wen Tools for a while. I own several, including the 10-inch variable drill press, track saw, and 9-inch bandsaw. I am an occasional DIY guy, so I am not putting them through heavy usage, but to this point, I have had no issues, and they do the jobs I need them for at a price that I can afford. Here's a little clarification on the company (from their website): "WEN products are made in many locations around the world, including the United States, Germany, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and China. WEN's headquarters are in West Dundee, Illinois, and they also have warehouses in several US locations."
DIY here. I bought Wen's 16 ga and 18 ga air nailers about 8 yrs ago. Use them a fair bit. They're great for DIY projects and surprisingly inexpensive.
That edit though when you stick the small t-ruler in your non-existent shirt pocket! Had to watch it a few times to figure out what was going on there. Nice!
I’ve been using the WEN dust collectors and filters on-site for the last four years For the quality, reliability and cost of both the units and the consumables, they cannot be beat. Glad to see their tools are on point too!
I got some of mine delivered and like you did, I lined them up with the couple of woodpecker tools I have and they were DEAD ON! They even feel similar in weight and rigidity. I’m guessing they may not wear as well or have the same level of durability maybe, but I’m going to be using them and see.
Hey Matt great video and Wen makes some awesome stuff! The 6 sided ruler is actually an architectural ruler commonly used to draw blueprints, there are 6 "scales" on it, 1/4" = a foot, 3/8"= a foot and so on , no metric on that particular ruler, cool products from Wen though!!!
Just watched your presentation - And I'm still chuckling. I like your "Woodpecker fandom outfit' and the price tag. Your presentations are always informative - this one stood out with its great comic relief.
I've used one of those triangular-shaped rulers for decades - first, back in the late 60's when I took drafting in high school. Might be time for a new one!
The compass has a way of measuring radial lengths since it can be used to make arcs of whatever size you need. Arc length is equal to the radius times the angle in radians.
"That's fine as you type away on your foreign device". Priceless Matt! You can now drop the mic! I do prefer American made but hey, as long as it works.
@@GARRY3754 Some things are. Surprisingly, I've found tools from Harbor Freight made in the USA. But honestly, businesses want to max profit by reducing production costs. If it costs less to make something overseas and ship it here, then that's what they do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@GARRY3754honestly as a truck driver I have found an unbelievable number of this we still make. It's just different now. This factory in Illinois makes the left handed widgets for that place in Missouri that makes the drive unit for the watchamajig used in that John deer tractor power take off that's assembled in Ohio. Then I pick up the rubber outer wrap for the Volvo semi steering wheels from harco an I'm off again :)
It's definitely not the same as it was growing up in Dayton Ohio at the top of the American Manufacturing bubble. Good Lord you could feel it in the air back then. Banks had to sweep the money in to piles and weigh it. If you could fog a mirror you could have a Cadillac in a few years while raising your 5 kids in a good part of town. I came a long a bit too late and got to ride it down to where it is now. At least I got to see it
@@miked172 I understand but greed does seem to enter the equation. Years ago I bought a Milwaukee saw. I looked and said I bet this is made in China. I was wrong, it was made in Chechoslavakia.😄🪚
Thanks for this! I don't have the budget for Woodpecker no matter how much I'd like to have a bunch of their stuff, so I'm excited to grab a few of these (layout square and t's) as a stepping stone to the MITUSA stuff.
I have seen big differences in measurements on cheaper tools. Thx for the great info! I also like how you keep a completely straight face every time you put one in your "pocket"!!
Being a woodworker that needs to work on a budget, I find the WEN measuring tools reviewed seem awesome. To further support the video and positive review, most of these product are sold out on the WEN website. AMAZON had the 6" T marking square and the 90 degree clamps. Oddly - the items are cheaper when buying directly from Wen.
Once again, Matt, Thanks for the review. I appreciate the links to the WEN products. Probably like most...went to Amazon and found most all of them "Temporarily Out Of Stock", flipped over the the Home Depot site and found all of them available and having them shipped to the house. I agree, I find myself always searching for a measuring tool when working in my shop...I am notorious for misplacing mine. Can't have too many at this point in time.
Like you I love the woodpecker line of tools and have several, but when I first began woodworking 40yrs. ago there was no way I could have afforded anything made by Woodpecker. It’s nice to see there is an accurate and budget friendly alternative for those just getting started in the woodworking adventure. Thank you for your excellent review.
I have been a WEN brand user of their saw blades for several yrs . They are a one time use for &20. Or so for a 80 tooth 12 inch miter saw blade. The wood squares are great ,just lie you said . All WEN tools are sold out on Amazon ,what a following you have ! Cheers
I have a woodpeckers T square and paolini pocket rule. I love them! But i can't afford much else and I've been worried about accuracy from cheaper tools. Just bought 4 of these items!! Thanks for putting your heads together and helping us out!!
Thanks for the reviews. Never hurts to have these. Especially if you need them as a sacrificial piece. Like lending them to a family member or a smaller young adult who you are teaching.
I've got a couple of Wen tools and have had great success with them. This is awesome. Unfortunately everything is sold out now but I will keep an eye for them to come back in stock. Thanks
Just saw this and went right to amazon. And almost all of them are now sold out. So I'd guess you're doing a good job! Now I'll have to wait for them to restock.....
WEN makes great products at a reasonable price, I went big bought a WEN generator 2 fuel gasoline or propane, one of the best things I have ever purchased
That triangular ruler is an "Architect's Square and doesn't have metric markings. Theyre used to draw and measure distances on standard scales uses in Architectural draft work. You can also get them in Engineer Scale where it uses standard Engineering scales (i.e. the "40" side has 40 marks per inch and is used for a 1"=40' scale).
I’m grateful for Wen, I was able to get a decent little business off the ground with Wen! Miter Saw stand is another sleeper in my opinion. I use daily Wen, Miter saw, planer, jointer, miter saw stand, Wen Clamps, dust collector…I’m sure there’s something else. Contacted customer service to litterally just say thank you and they responded very quickly multiple times. So I assume there Customer Service Department is good also. Also about to buy the smaller Miter saw for my mobile work…the big one is on a big custom miter table, it’s seriously my go to brand in non battery powered tools. Battery powered Im a Milwaukee guy!
Matt: I watch your YT snippets faithfully. What sold me on WEN is not just the accuracy at a reasonable price...you got my attention when you pointed out that the packaging on the small square comes out of the box and drops right into my tool drawer. My garage workshop is always clean and organized. The Wen packaging keeps the tool and accessories neat and tidy, no searching for the accessories that go with the tool.
Hey Matt, Just as a point of reference, the scale you were showing is a drafting scale used for drawing pictures of your project to scale. This way you can see what your project looks like when it's finished. Rick
Thanks for this, I've been hesitant to buy these even though I definitely could use a nice layout square. Every dollar counts and now I think it will be worth the money
I outfitted my garage shop (single car) with all WEN power tools. I agree with you on quality for the price. I’ve had no issues with any of their products. I’ll be picking up more of the WEN products. Thanks for the review!
Appreciate the video. I don't have a need for Woodpeckers quality, but still need a few of these items. Bought a pair of iGaging steel layout squares on eBay when a set showed up cheap. Wasn't real interested in their other offerings, though. These will do nicely.
many years ago i bought a couple of wen power tools. i was on a tight budget, but i really did not like them. didn't even look at wen again till recently. i wanted to get a sliding miter saw. i wanted one that would tilt both left and right. needed a slider also. found the wen 12 inch miter saw. it was well made, had the sliding mechanism which slid from the front. this is one of the best miter saws i have ever owned. wen has really stepped up their game and their prices are very competitive.
Awesome review. Im just getting into woodworking and am looking for good budget-minded products. I would really like to purchase these Wen t squares but where can i get them. Every site i go to is out of stock. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I just got in my order from woodpeckers yesterday. I ordered the set of rulers, 12”, 18” and 24” squares. Wish I had known bc I definitely am not to ashamed to use wen instead of woodpeckers lol. Gotta say if I’m being honest I’ll probably be sending back the set of rulers bc they were like $150 or so for the set and I can get the wen set for a fraction of the cost. Thanks for the video bc I didn’t know wen made this type stuff
the indentations on the rulers in the middle also provide rigidity - similar to how a t-track is more rigid than a bar of metal with the same dimensions.
