This is the arrangement of Wendigo I played at the 2024 MLAG Contest. This is a screen capture from a Zoom song circle after MLAG, while I was recovering from Covid. The recording, and the playing are not up to my normal standards. If folks would like a better recording of the piece, let me know down in the comments and I will do a better one for the viewers.

That was absolutely beautiful Harvey! I hope you are feeling much better ! I love the melancholy nostalgia of the descending motif and energy of your strumming , the harmonies are very lovely! And as always your expression in dynamics gives the feeling of narrative storytelling , I could almost see how this song could medley with other songs you have played.😊thank you for sharing your musical gifts with us !

Thanks for the very positive comments on this piece. Wendigo has long been a favorite, since the first time I heard it played by Mary McCaslin, using a modal open tuning on her guitar. The playing of this piece has threaded in and out of my playing challenges due to my neuromuscular illness. I'm glad you found it worthwhile.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I am surprised to read that you were recovering from Covid and recording this over Zoom since I think it sounds really lovely. I love the harmonies, and the way the melody soars forward is very inspiring and uplifting even though parts of the piece sound melancholy. Listening to this makes me feel very introspective. I hope you are feeling better now!

Thanks so much for listening, and for enjoying the piece. I really like this arrangement because it shows off just what an autoharp can do, if you only ask it. The melancholy feel is something I was hoping to capture, along with a Native American rhythm underneath it all, given that the Wendigo is a NA demonic spirit, of some power. As for covid. I'm still working my way back. Things didn't get too bad because I got Paxlovid immediately, and that stuff is truly magic. But, with my other infirmities, it is taking a bit of time to climb back out of the hole.

Harvey, great playing and consistency! Truly a high point of MLAG for me was talking with you, getting your philosophy of music and especially your feedback! I'm already looking forward to next year. BTW, whenever I make the trip from my home down to visit family and friends in Bucks County, I normally come down 100 to hop on 78.

And, right at the intersection of 100 and 78 is The Starlite Diner. Might work for a quick meet and greet on one of your trips.
