1. At this point, EVERYBODY knows what Luther was. Both he and his mother have passed on so there's no reason for Patti to be keeping silent. 2. Luther grew up with a very religious mother. I remember seeing the funeral service on TV when he died and I was shocked about how one of the preachers that talked, dismissively hinted at his homosexuality. I knew right then that he didn't have a chance living as a content and out gay man in this environment. Black churches (any church for that matter) and homosexuality, in 2017 it's still a very toxic combination. Maybe Wendy should have talked about that.

I'm a gay black man, around Luther's age and like him, also an introvert. This is the problem when extroverts want to bring introverts into the public unwillingly. Luther was private in life and he should have been respected in his passing, the same way. Wendy was right and although Patti was a dear friend, it wasn't her place to reveal his business. I'm the say way, Patti meant no harm but it was certainly a bad mistake .I woudn't want nobody speaking about my life, who didn't respect my privacy, even less it was a friend.

It's more so about him being private and just knowing how to respect what a person doesn't want to share. I get that Patti may have not did it to be spiteful but I just know confidentiality is everything. No matter how much people say everybody knew Luther was gay it's about respect. Wendy be strong ! My mother lost her best friend, who happened to be gay and she never revealed his secrets, even to his death. So that's what friends really do, they hold on to their truths and it's not for every one else share. That person decides who or when to reveal their feelings about their life, when they are ready and comfortable to do so. It is not anyone else's choice or place to do it, therefore she was completely wrong by deciding to do so.
