This is a GREAT demo for horse lovers, thank you! One thing not mentioned here (too big a topic to include everything in one video, I know!) is that so often horses have tight traps, rhomboids, and other opposing muscles that will (if tight and/or with fascial restrictions), interfere with the ability of the serratus ventralis and pecs to do their job of lifting (as described so well in this video). These opposing muscles can be tight/restricted for lots of reasons, some mentioned in video. (Also saddle fit, past injuries and patterns, natural dominant/weaker sidedness, etc.) All of this to say, that in addition to the VERY important issue of proper training and muscle development, BODYWORK is ALSO very useful to allow it all to work as it's meant to! This whole picture of the ribcage balance and movement is always a big part of my focus in the bodywork sessions I do for my own clients.
Wendy this is FABULOUS! Could I please share with my students? My pony clubbers don't seem to understand the biomechanics the way I was trying to explain it, and this is perfect!
Transversal roation!! Thanks for putting it in laymans terms, Wendy! I have shared the same information from jean luc cornille but this was a GREAT visual.
Wendy is it OK to include a link to this You Tube on my webpage. Your demonstration helps show what I try to tell people but their eyes glaze over. I agree with you that it is SO IMPORTANT for people to understand for the benefit of our horses health and soundness. Thanks for posting this!!
Dr Hilary Clayton's book "Activate Your Horse's Core" has some great exercises you can do with your horse to make sure he is using himself well and to strengthen him.
@@wendymurdoch-eqHI there! I am tempted to get the book to see how the exercises compare with my classical French training. The title talks of "the core" however I just wanted to ask do theses exercises in this book associate the sling muscles with the core? As you mentioned the serratus ventralis and pecs need strengthening and most people associate "core" with the various layers of abdominal muscles ( I am also a yoga teacher so this is how a lot of people think). I would like to understand if I was to invest in said book, would it focus on those sling muscles you mention as well as the "core"?? Thanks hope that makes sense! Demelza
@@wendymurdoch-eq hi thank you I had a look and cant seem to find any for sale unless they are £60 plus. Is there anywhere else I could purchase thank yoy
