It was funny to hear them mention passing under the old A1 and the new A1M coming into Leeming Bar; I can remember when the line crossed the original A1 Great North Road and the gates were closed to stop the traffic. Of course there was a lot less traffic in those days.
What a lovely run through beautiful countryside. Watching this with the Test Match at Headingly on the radio here in the background. What better way to spend a summers day? Thanks Dewi.
Probably British Rail took out the bridge I'd be surprised if Railtrack did anything rail related, must thank Sir,or is it Lord (the standards the Queen must have to dish out these titles!), Major .
Horns are OK. USA and Australia both have ear drum buster air horns, the Zanks seem to need to blast at least six times when comping to a level crossing. Swityland ))sorry a bug in Mac szstem=.and Austria both have weak as piss beepers. I thought the good old country closed all their poorly maintained branch lines
Funny, you know, I agree 100%. In Australia we have always had a mix of US and British railway practices, whether rolling stock, or locomotives etc. In the state of South Australia the railway system became as American as Apple Pie, due to the commissioner [ CEO] being from an American Railroad. We have EMD and GE locomotives and a number of older, ALCO units. . . . some of which are preserved. Anyhow the train whistles are almost all very similar to American practice. Also, the locomotives MUST have a working headlight. . . . .quite unlike Britain. Plus a cow catcher or pilot, as they are often called. In other words, no headlight, no go!
The UK needs to install USA style Horns to all its Diesels & USA steam whistles to all its steam Locomotives. Yes Joe Day, the UK is the home of gay train horns.
When the US has a railway network to match that of say, Japan, then you can start advising the rest of the world. Until then,...........................
