Went to the Largest Comic Book Shop in NYC! Was it Worth the Trip or a Complete Waste of Time? 

I love the nerd arguments and conversation in the background 🤣🤣🤣 Its my favorite part of going to Comic shops

The amount of taxes this place probably has to pay is severely Criminal

I’m in NYC and I’ve been going to Midtown since the 90’s. The staff stays nice and friendly. There’s always a few odd ducks that come through but it’s always a safe space for nerds and geeks to come through and hang out and talk about comics. There’s 3 stores in NYC:Times Square, Grand Central, and Downtown Financial District. You can always talk comics with staff!

It does usually seem like the nicer the shop the higher the prices. I go to a local hole in the wall kinda place. It’s dirty and unorganized but there are good deals to be found.

Jerry! Thank you for saving me a trip! I’m actually in New York today and I was going to put this on my list. Very astute on the prices and paying for the overhead of the shop in a location like that as a comic conservationist such as yourself, we’re always looking for good deals. None to be had here.😊

The shop is like a comic book museum. It's a great place to visit and check out, but not worth to come home with something.

You should do a follow up video and go to Kocks warehouse. Def a comic tourist attraction place to go and you can find some deals

That's really cool jerry that's on my list of comic shops to visit like you said probably not a shop I'd buy anything from but worth checking out. Similar to like when I visited mile high comics

I don’t think I’ve been to Midtown Comics since I met a buddy there when I was in college. I did pick some early Defenders issues as I recall.

I’ve been there too. The back issues are very lacking. Cool location though.

I love New York! I went there circa 2004 and bought some Modern books - I remember paying too much. But it was a fun experience and I would definitely revisit the shop when I go back.

Like a lot of big comic shops now the focus seems to be mainly on modern comics and omnibus. I think Forbidden Planet is cooler though I haven't been there in a while

The store was huge but I didn't see much I would have been interested. Though I did notice the major x-men silver age keys.

Place is huge but being in NYC...I imagine not the most affordable place to find books.

This used to be my LCS when I worked. My office was a few blocks away. Agree it is a place that any collector should visit. They do have quite a few silver age comics at the Times Square store as well as the Grand Central and Downtown stores. I have seen a few Golden Age books but not many. Yes this is not a Jerry the Jitterbug type of store but is a great store for most collectors and readers of comic books.

This store pales in comparison to some of the by gone comic shops of the 80's Brain Damage comics in Brooklyn, Comicbook Heaven in Queens and Forbidden planet on 59 street Manhattan were some of the best shops I can remember, Forbidden Planet used to have a great collection of Bandai Japanese Godzilla figures of all sizes. I used to go there with my ten dollar allowence and walk out with a atleast 1 figure and some comics at the prices back then, I feel for you youngsters with the prices you have to pay today.

Thanks for sharing. Midtown (especially the Grand Central spot) used to have great back issue bins. The Queens location has become their back issue spot but it's usually pillaged by flippers and speculators. I went there once and it was distracting because they were just coordinating and talking so loud. I am forever grateful to Midtown comics: My two ASM 238s (newsstand and direct) were purchased from Midtown and they set me back only 65$ after 40% of deal when I had a lot more hair and beepers were still a thing. I think that a downside of a lot of Northeast shops, they rent is just too damn high.

i don’t understand how they survive. I had a customer (pizzeria) that was located a few blocks away from times square and the rent was 15,000 a month. The rent here must be like 30,000 lol. i’ve been before and was disappointed in their back issues. No idea how they do to lol

I'm in NYC and I agree with Jerry's opinion. It's a nice open space and there are two floors. Upstairs has a large back issue selection though mostly newer books and plenty of toys , statues and action figures. Downstairs has a very nice selection of new releases and very recent back issues at cover price, TPB's as well as bags and boards. The bulk of their Silver age books are behind the counter and you will need to ask to see them. I found virtually no golden age books any time I ever went there. It is worth a visit if you're not usually in the area. I found this to also be true of "Forbidden Planet" on Broadway at 13th Street in Downtown Manhattan. Plenty of new stuff, very little else. I used to go there many years back when they actually had a great bac issue selection but that is no more. Still, it's nice to see so many comics and related swag in one location. Best to all.

No deals, but really fun to see. I've never been in a two-story comic shop before. I could spend a lot of time in there window shopping.

Beautiful location unfortunately the store looked dead with very little customers. I'd probably never visit the shop. I prefer smaller mom and pop shops.

I order online from my sister-in-laws in the Bronx and then in store pick-up.

At 3:02 did dude say “shit bro, that’s kinda retarded”? 😂 I’ve never seen a video of this place from the inside, it’s very overwhelming. I was buying weekly books from them late last year and early this year through mail, not a great experience dealing with them when books are slightly damaged yet they consider it to be near mint.

This store is incredibly cool and incredibly boring. I'd rather go dollar bin digging at a small store somewhere.

I went there a few years ago, my local shop is better.
