Boston Celtics have signed 26-year-old big Wenyen Gabriel to a training camp deal as he will compete for a reserve big man spot in Boston. Here are his best highlights from the 2022-23 NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers as he averaged 5.5 PPG on 60-28-62 shooting splits to go with 4.2 RPG in 68 games played.

You gotta give it to Brad on his ability to basically find a decent replacement in a matter of moments of the Jrue trade. Gabriel has so many similarities to Rob but slightly better handles. I think he’ll thrive off the bench, he looks good playing with pace.

Looks like he can help fill the void that Rob left. Similar play style. I doubt he is as good of a passer as Rob and does not seem as long either. But he certainly can put the ball on the floor and shoot a little bit. This is a great addition

exactly. it's not just about talent. this guy has that FIRE. One complaint I've had about both the Js is that they have this "too-cool-for-school attitude." With Smart gone, a big question was where they were gonna get that fire from. This dude will definitely stoke the coals and get them poppin! Culture wins championships

When I saw they traded Rob in the package for Jrue, I was heartbroken. Rob was one of my favorites. But then I watched this--holy smokes. This guy is BETTER than Rob. He's nearly as long, so you still have that shot blocking presence, but then the increase in skill handling and shooting the ball over Rob is massive. I can't tell if he's more athletic, but he's just more ALIVE and ACTIVE out there. Rob was kind of a tank. This guy plays with speed and heart. Rob was cool. This guy has a fire that we sorely need, especially with Smart gone. I'm loving the additions they've made. Brad low key had a A+ offseason.

This guy isn't better than Rob. He's not even more athletic. He's a rim runner and very agile dribbling the ball. Rob was better leaper and highpointing the ball. His FT% is also much better if I recall

@@melancholypuppy3595 Rim Runner is a good description. Agility--another good word to describe him, was looking for that. Ya like I said he's not necessarily more athletic...but yet his quickness, agility, and MOTOR makes him pop off the screen more. And you can't discount what heart and a firey spirit can bring to the team. Rob was so cool...this guy is gonna help stoke the too-cool-for school attitude among the J's and others. Gonna be good for the TEAM.

Why? Rob didn't guard him. Al does. I'm putting Al and JT on him and hoping for the best. But I mean... Joel can do whatever he wants, if they aren't making any roster moves they won't be a threat in the playoffs.

Rob does have a bigger frame cause he got bigger each year and probably the better athletic jumps higher- but from these highlights this dude is more active I will still prefer Rob to guard the Joels and Greek freaks- but this dude can fill in for now.

I absolutely love this guy and his personal story. He plays great, similar height than Rob, amazing blocking capability, above the hoop game, nice pick and roll movement, and he can even shoot. He can improve passing and positional defense, and he will be really a good player, you'll see!
