Nice old lantern! I didn't even realize Wenzel made lanterns. Pretty cool!

Thanks Chris. They have been around for awhile. I wanted to buy one in the past but passed because it got a bad wrap on the Coleman sites from some of the members. No after actually tearing into it I wish I had bought the other one years ago. It was in much better shape with a nice reflector. I think some people just knock anything that is Chinese without even giving it a try.

Best thing you can do with that lantern is to squeeze that vice until the fount crushes. My opinion on the quality of the item only. Love your videos.

Just curious. Have you ever owned one or are you just knocking it because it's Chinese? It has its implications and isn't perfect quality but runs really well . Sometimes this style of lanterns can be a little temperamental especially kerosene if the generator gets a little clogged up. Dosen't matter what you buy. From a car to a lantern you can get good ones or bad ones. Maybe I got lucky and got a good one. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless.

I have one of these that I bought new 22 years ago from Sams Club. Complete with top reflector mantles, alcohol bottle and some small items in a wooden case. It’s a good idea to replace all of the seals if they have used unleaded gasoline in the lamp. Seals are designed for kerosine or paraffin lamp oil. As a rule of thumb all elastic seals should be replaced every ten years. As for nay sayers the older Butterfly branded lamps were made in India with new production now happening in China. As for Wenzel lamps, they are Chinese but made to higher standards years ago. Companies did not want liability issues of key components failing while in use. BTW I own an authentic Petromax lamp I have been restoring as well as a new Wenzel never used and a pair of Coleman lamps as well as an Aladdin mantel table lamp. What I have done is assembled a tool pack for the Coleman’s and the Petromax so I don’t have to mess with going through my tool kits.

I really liked the Wenzel lantern, but I did let this one go to a new home. I have recently picked up another Adia and another for parts. I'm having trouble finding the time to fettle it through. Hopefully, one day in the near future. Thanks for watching, and God bless.

Thanks Chris. I heard some of the collectors talking bad about these but I didn't see any problems with it other than the welding splatter on the generator. It's really not a bad lantern.

Thanks Terry. The new channel is actually growing fairly fast. At least my faster than my other one did. Didn't take me no time to go over a hundred and most are new subs who didn't come from my other.

I have the petromax model, I’d also like to know how the fast heater works ie how is it burning kerosene without being pre heated ? The only way I can see it working is if it’s fed by a valve in the top of the fount…. Perhaps the air in the top of the fount is atomised. Mine doesn’t work great and I have to hold a lighter continuously to it.

I'm not really familiar with the European models, but I recently acquired another one, so I guess it's time to learn about them. Once I find the time, I plan to do a little research and post another video on it as I fettle it. Thanks for watching, and God bless.

Hey....I need advice. I've run my share of Colemans.....buy this Wenzel has got me. Picked up a clean one in the box. It has been used. Anyway, the pump is really hard to pump. Heck, not just to try pumping pressure (which I don't get).....but. it has a strong suction that will pull the pump knob out of your fingers And I mean a strong pull. Help me out on this.

I don't have much experience with these but I'm guessing it is similar to the same problem Coleman lanterns have. There is a snorkel tube that runs from the check valve up inside the top of the fount. They make a tool for the Coleman to clear the blockage but it's not going to work with the Wenzel. This is going to take time. It could even be weeks to fix. You need to fill the fount as full of kerosene as you can get it and put the cap on it. Then fill the pump housing and sit it in the direct sun. Try pumping it again in a day or so. If it still doesn't work repeat the process. Eventually the kerosene will soak through the snorkel tube and dissolve the gunk. I hope this helps. God bless

Hello there! My mother gave me one of these years ago. The globe on it is extremely loose. It has about an inch clearance between the top and bottom of the globe. Is that normal?
@colemanrestorationsrepair4171
It is possible that the air tubes may not have been threaded all the way in or the wrong globe altogether. This one was a normal fit. Thanks for watching, and God bless.

My dad just gave me this lantern. It's brand new. Never been fired up. He said he bought it 30 years ago. I can't get air in the tank. Yes, the pump has oil on the cup. I can't get the valve out. It's tuck. What do I do?

That lantern is chinese made.
@colemanrestorationsrepair4171
@colemanrestorationsrepair4171 2 года назад
I didn't think it is a bad lantern to be China made. It's not the quality of the Adia or Petromax but is much better than the Butterfly brand. Someone had put rug in the fount but the best I could see it had never been fired.
