Barely made it out, the long, humiliating recovery after my attempt and seeing people die all around me in the ICU sort of...shaken me enough to try living once more. I'm starting to like it, even though crawling out of hole this deep all on your own is humbling. I hope you find joy , love and purpose on your journey back to the land of living (and sober). I hope you are surrounded with people who genuinely love you and that you have found - or are looking - for a reason to not only hold on, but to thrive,too. Many people like us find their purpose in helping others, helping animals - it has worked for me, too, even though changing careers at age where people usually have mortgages and families isn't easy - but it was absolutely worth it. Don't let people tell you it's too late to start anew. Make it so that whatever pain you were "gifted" by life - you help someone else get rid of, or carry. Helping animals is what helps me on these days when I ask myself - is it really worth it? Am I truly happy? Do I want to go on? - I hold on to the thoughts about all the dogs (and people) I've helped. And that kind of re-grounds me into feeling like I deserve to be here, like I belong somewhere, even when I'm completely on my own. Good luck man. You've got this - but you don't have to fight alone.

Personally, I've known Xanax to ruin more lives than any other drugs. Granted I've never known any friends to get super into heroin or OD on fent, but just from a "casual" drug use side Xanax is by far the worst. I was addicted to Xanax, went to adolescent rehab for Xanax, and there I met a dozen other kids that have done insane things while under the influence. It's a crazy drug, you can be a normal person, black out on Xanax, and "wake up" to 3 felonies to your name. Personally I've done awful things while blacked out on Xanax that I would never do sober. All that combined with the fact that besides alcohol, it and other benzodiazepines are the only drugs that can kill you if you stop cold turkey, bring it to the top of my most detested drug. I'm sure it helps plenty of people with anxiety, but the recreational abuse of it has far exceeded the pharmaceutical benefits. It is insane to me it is a schedule 4 drug

4 years real sobriety then major alcohol relapse in 2018..,on and off for years. Sober. One day and many days one hour at a time bro. Congratulations & huge thanks for your service.

I'm with you, I'll never get one. Having one on your back, maybe, is cool. It's not for me. I'd get tired of looking at them on my body though. There's some pretty cool tattoos out there though. My brother has done tattoos for years he has them all over. He's actually done some rock stars tattoos.

First off, congratulations on beating cancer, because that's awesome and sucks you had to deal with it. Secondly, you have 2 big reasons to get something that will remind you of what you went through. I would try to come up with something, with or without the artist, whom you should find in advance and not just walk into a shop, to commemorate both in one shot. The best thing you can do to avoid shoddy work is look at their previous work. Any good artist will have photos of what they've done and can do. You should spend just as much time finding an artist as you would trying to come up with the perfect tattoo for yourself. I have a couple, nothing crazy, and they're on my back so that I don't have to look at them all of the time, because they're nothing special. I just wouldn't let finding a good artist to do your work hold you back. They're out there and they're most likely not going to be local to you unless you live in a big city. It's not as simple as just walking into your local tattoo shop. That would scare me too. Instagram is a really good place to find really good artists, but it will be pricey. We only have so much time on this earth and you should try something new. Like when you hiked up a big ass mountain. Good luck and I hope you find the person you're looking for.
