I agree. His solos, like Bird's, are always beautiful melodies in and of themselves.

There’s a lot of space between lines. To me that makes his solos more like a conversation than endless notes rambling on.

I still love Coletrane's cascading sheets and waves of sound, though, in his heroin years. John Coletrane did evolve it more after he got clean though, but shear stream of consciousness and blasts of notes is impressive to me. I just love all the jazz greats of the bebop era, one of my favorite genres and times in music.

Totally, his timing is beautifully.

An American treasure to behold. Wes Montgomery lives on in George Benson, Lee Rittenhour and many others.

His legacy, and music lives on.

I don't think his guitar was in shades of blue so a little license taken there. If I remember correctly, it was that Tobacco Sunburst color pattern: gold in the middle fading to a nice, soft, saturated brown out at the edges. That said, the colorization makes this eminently watchable.

Watching it you can see that he relies on the left hand to do hammer ons...and I'm guessing pull-offs too? I think of James Jamerson in the same way: one finger played ALL that stuff. Thank goodness there wasn't a teacher to tell him how to play "correctly".

Don't do it enjoy playing guitar there will always some one playing better.

@@nederlanditisnederlanditis5529 Yes. YOUR watching it! Remember Charlie Parker AND Sonny Rollins are just as good, probably better than Coltrane. Add in Cannonball etc Alto or Tenor . Wes is the best jazz guitarist period. A couple are close, Almieda ( Brazil) etc they say others, but NOBODY is better. So your watching why.

Wes and Joe were very different kinds of musician. Wes was able to improvise wonderful melodic lines and block chord movements. His compositions sounded simple but actually had great depth and were very effective. I think Joe was technically a more advanced player and his early classical guitar training makes him a more complete musician; his chord melody was very complex but out of this world and has never been surpassed. Oscar Peterson said he was a genius, which he certainly was.

You get a much better sound with a PRS SE Hollowbody

It’ll cost ya! I just got a Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin which retail for around $1000 and it sounds great. There’s lots of affordable alternatives to those overpriced gibsons out there.

I didn’t either but remember this video has color added to it . It was originally black and white so the guitar might be a regular sunburst guitar. I don’t know…. Just saying

@@johndardi1334 I was kinda joking because it was a regular burst in real life, but the color process did indeed give him a finish that I've never seen. Would be cool if Gibson did that.

@@haysfordays Ooooh ok lol. I understand what you’re saying now. You know a silver burst Les Paul will actually turn green after years of aging. Just some info I thought you’d like to know and YES a silver burst L-5 would look awesome Too bad Gibson’s quality has really gone down hill. The quality has gone down but the prices have gone sky high. There’s NO WAY they should charge 7, 8, 10,000 dollars for a Les Paul. It’s become the guitar for the doctor or lawyer etc..If you order a Les Paul it’s pot luck. You might get a good one you might not. I bought a Tom Anderson Cobra. It’s a phenomenal guitar and completely blows a Gibson away I my opinion. Andersons are expensive too but you know if you buy one it’s gonna be great. Gibson needs to get better at quality control and lower their prices. They’d find out that they would sell a hell of a lot more guitars. I’m afraid they’re gonna price themselves out of business.
