My old man taught me that your only as good as your word. Look someone in the eyes and shake hands on a deal, and that is the only contract needed. I'm 70 now and hope that is still a thing. Thanks for this song.
That's exactly the way my old man was, and how I've operated all along mainly because of that upbringing. I'm the same age and have unfortunately realized that far too many ppl don't possess that level of honor, or in considering their word as 'golden', and it's now becoming a lost honor for far too many.
I was taught that by my dad and his dad. It's disheartening when a whole city can't seem to be above board when hired to do a job, complete it, right the first time, as told and explained to. Guess I'm not the only one that sees things are different in the New World. 😡
"I wish i could grow up all over again with my old man" that broke me....5yrs ago today 4/7/19 i lost my old man to cancer he was 61yrs young and i was 25yrs old with my first born son who was his first grandchild that he was excited for to take fishin n huntin and work on cars with, plans cut short and now i have my 2nd and final kid that line broke me bc id love to go back and cherish every moment all over again😔. Love and miss ya dad 82nd all the way!
I feel ya lost my dad when I was 8. Now I'm 40 with a son who is 13 and I have raised alone the last 11 years. I live through him what I never got to do.
I hurt, I remember letting my father down, disowned me, I thank God every day that he lived to see me turn my life around, build my own home, marry, have one daughter, and get my record expunged, sworn in as a deputy sheriff. Thank you God.
An old man ain’t always related to you. It’s the man who teaches you how to be better than he was so that you can teach a youngin how to be better than both of you were. So all them hard days of work, and those days of feeling alone all amount to a story you can tell. When my church would do charity runs through the tent cities of bigger places than where I lived, they always said “you ain’t gotta thank me, just pay it forward”. So pay it all forward. The wisdom is worth more than any dollar you could ever spend.
If a man has a son that thinks that highly of him, then his life was a success story. The song was well played on that guitar. The folks at Radio West Virginia have some great sound engineers. The reverb on this was powerful, just like it was on the Oliver Anthony song that y'all recorded. That brought me to this guy singing this song, and you excellent work is causing me to subscribe.
i didn't have a good one but i was able at the end (last week) to forgive him without him asking for it. i found him and on hospice i held him and told him i hope that he finds Peace now!!!
Found a couple weeks before father's day and it just hits home. Dad tried to teach me lots of important lessons, but the one's that mattered most I got just from watching him. A guy who wasn't above any job when it came to caring for his family- a college degreed chemist who cheerfully took a job shoveling out stalls on a farm when he was laid off. Later in life when it happened again I watched him learn to lay flooring. Those are the things that stick with you. Thank you for such bringing it to mind again- I raise a glass to fathers like that.
I hope my kids love me as much as he loves his dad. He wrote this song for himself, thats why its one of the most powerful songs Ive ever heard. It has made all my friends cry. WOW man.
I lost my husband in October 2014, he was the most amazing husband, Dad and Bumpa. I carry precious memories in my heart. I recently lost my Dad February 17th after a brief and unexpected illness. He was 82 years old and was in the process of building a new house for him and my Mom. They were high school sweethearts married 63 years, 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was the Patriarch of Our Family and we are heartbroken 💔 😢 I've lost the two most loving and amazing men in my life. 😭
@Ronnock Oh so needed this today! 🩵 Thank you, and yes they were badasses. I miss them everyday, especially the bantering between us, it was hilarious. Now my adult children are Pros and bantering and cutting up. Oh the memories I cherish will always remain in my heart. God Bless you today and everyday for putting a smile on my face 🙏 😊
They gave you the very best they had. And any man full of love for his family would do it all over again anyday. Its so great that you had that kind of love, bless your soul
My dad wasn't the greatest. But, i hope one day my kids will listen to this and think of me. To the dads out there live your life, so this song will bring tears of joy to your children when they are old enough to really understand. Thank you for this song, and god bless.
I lost my dad when I was 9 he always took me camping ,hunting and fishing he was the best dad in the world to me I miss him dearly nice song man im a fan💯
Blessed to have the old man I had too Wes Shipp! Miss that old man every day! Like you said to make sure we were warm and fed he worked til his fingers bled. 7-3 as a maintenance man at a apartment complex and always doing side jobs in the evening after working all day. A few times I'd find his lunch in the fridge after I'd roll out of the sack and load it up on the fourwheeler and run it to him. It really seemed to make his day that I cared enough to bring it to him. Sometimes when I'd roll in for a visit he'd ask me "hey bud you cut my hair" and of course every time I said "sure old man." God what I'd give to cut his hair for him one more time! Love ya old man and miss you dearly. Hope you and mom are walking the streets of gold hand in hand. Love you both dearly and miss y'all so much it hurts everyday but I gotta keep on. The hardest part though was when I had to tell my kids their grandpa was gone it crushed my soul to see them hurt the way they did. Lots of great memories though because my parents were awesome!
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing. Your sincere words touched my heart too, and you knowing where your parents are. We were blessed with good parents bc God knows we weren’t always perfect lol. I’m glad they taught us how to be with them again, now that I am in my sixties. GBU ~
My mother taught us to never hate and to forgive people so I cannot hate my father who was never there I feel sorry for him my mother still loves him this song is for my hero my mom
My dad has Parkinson’s and dementia and is such a different person now, I mourn for my dad daily. He has always been my hero and hung the moon to say the least. I will forever be his baby girl, as he will always be the man that taught me how to love, work, and throw a punch he taught me life lessons you can’t get from a book somewhere
I miss my Dad everyday. He died 1998. Taught me everything I needed to know, wanted to know. I did the same for my children as well. Some tough love but always love. Hug them while ya got em!
Why have we not heard this man, that's the most beautiful voice it's so, I dont even have the word for it, its manly, its soothing, it's that voice you cant wait to hear at night before you lay down to sleep it's that one you cant wait to hear first thing in the morning WOW!!!! I'm looking him up on RU-vid now!!!
What a beautiful song. It took me back in time remembering those same things about my father. He lost his battle to cancer when I was only 19 and he was 49. Thank you for such a great song.
Awesome song. Lost my dad almost 2 years ago to cancer, miss him everyday. What an amazing tribute to your old man. Thank you for sharing your talents and thank you to this youtube channel for showcasing these talented individuals. God bless
I would not have known about your youtube channel if not for Oliver Anthony. Amazing talent you have on this page. Makes me want to visit West Virginia!
In today’s music world, BRAVO!! True music, true subject, true meaning. I lost my Dad two days after Thanksgiving 2021 and I feel this song. Thanks for writing, performing and posting this!! I hope you stay true and go far!
Lost my dad November 28th, 2023. Stumbled on this song this morning. Bet I've listened to it 20 times so far, not just this version but 2 or 3 others I've found. My dad was my best friend, and this song is like it was written about him. Thank you so much Radiowv and Mr. Wes Shipp. Y'all have had me crying and smiling all morning.
God in heaven, thank you for raidowv and the talented artists on the channel. Thank you for the blessing of having a Dad like the Dad in this song. He is my hero to this day, every day I had with him was a blessing, I miss him so very much. Lord, I ask that you help other Dads be the hero to their children, help guide Dads down the path of leadership by example for their family. Please help children understand and appreciate their Dad so that precious time does not slip through their fingers. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
I grew up in a time where everyones dad made a living swinging a hammer. Having that we learned a lot. A lot of kids dont have that. Love this song. Thanks
I lost my dad in 2020 to his fight with cancer and I held his hand with my sister while he passed away in my arms and I really needed this song today, it gave me a chance to finally cry and release. Thank you for this Chanel and song❤
Wow what a tribute to a good dad! I've come to realize that even though my dad didn't seem too great, he actually was because he didn't pass down the abuse that was done to him. He was a broken man but still did enough so I could understand later in life that he desired to do better but was just so broken with no help. It will be much better in Heaven and i look forward to that. ✝️
That there is a beautiful song😢 I can't tell you how many times over the years I wish that was my old man I'm 36 years old and he still wants next to nothing to do with me I pray one day soon he will open his eyes 🙏
Been a musician/song writer/performer pretty much my entire life and that has to be one of the best songs I have heard in a very long time - so much raw emotion, truth, let the story be told...I have no words to describe how this song made me feel....absolutely amazing work!!!
Beautiful song 🎵 brother!!! 1st note had me hooked! My dad said goodbye to us when I was 3. My brothers were 5, 1, and the youngest a newborn... He was an alcoholic, so maybe it was for the best. My mother, despite her own issues and having her world turned upside down, raised us with nothing but love. She has overcome so much, I am proud to be her son ❤ you mom!
You made me weep for my father who passed 16 years ago. He was like yours, a great man to my eyes and someone who loved me deeply. Thank you for expressing my feelings in a way that I can't.
This song hits home because my Father is 80yrs old with failing Health I'm blessed to still have him he always worked and always provided up until he was 74yrs old just remember if you still have your Dad every day is a blessing cherish every moment and always make sure they know you love them because that inevitable day will come only God knows when leave him with happy memories and live on in your Heart
Wow. very well written and performed. I have tears thinking about my Dad. He's been gone for over 30 years now. I wrote a song for him and am thankful he got to hear it before he passed. Much love and respect to you!
My man… I’m the least emotional person you’ve probably ever met. I lost my dad in 07 at 11 years old. This song brought me to tears. I’m not even sure how I got here.. but thank you.
Lost my dad a few years ago , he was my strength now I know if I fall ain't no one there to lift me up, thanks for this amazing song , cause it reminded me of him , he toiled hard for us , now I toil for my family and wait for the day I will meet my dad again.
