you ARE to blame. Your ministers lied and lied and lied about the mess they have made. Its not just the money, although that's bad enough. Its every branch of government. Any party taking over after your party would have a monumental clean up job.

“There are some on the left who cringe at this, viewing it as marketisation…” then provides no reason why they shouldn’t. If you give private clinics the ability to take on NHS patients at the cost to the taxpayer, you either cost the taxpayer (and oddly, private patients too) extortionate amounts, or, given that it’ll likely be capped, you squeeze NHS patients out, creating the same system we’re experiencing with dental treatment. So the “options” are there, until they aren’t, as those “options” result in the movement of NHS doctors to the private sector (given the pay), and then you’re left with gaping holes in the knowledge and equipment available to the NHS. Exactly as happened with dentistry. In other words, the NHS will be available for only the most desperate of circumstances, and anything else will be private by necessity. Is this better than the underfunding the tories were engaged in? I don’t know. Neither are great, and at least it was clear who to blame with the tories. This slow privatisation via stealth is just as heartless though.
